Dear Parents,
In the spirit of November, I want to express my sincere ‘Thanks!’ for all of the children
and parents of this amazing school community! I want to share my gratitude with
all of you for the outstanding staff that serves your family on a daily basis. I appre-
ciate the cooperative efforts between the home and school environment as we develop
independent thinkers and learners. Together, we are creating young boys and girls
that will be problem solvers, leaders and outstanding citizens in our world. Thank
you for the precious gift of your children.
Warmly,
Melanie Morey

Logging into Home Access Center
Home Access Center (HAC) is the new parent portal for parents to access report cards
for Troy School District parents beginning with the 2015/2016 school year. To access
HAC go to this webpage https://trohac.troy.k12.mi.us/HomeAccess. Login with your
HAC username and password. If you do not know your username or password, you can
use the Forgot my Username or Password feature. If you have not yet registered for
HAC, please send an email to [email protected] that includes your name and
the name(s) of your student(s) along with their school name and grade. Within one busi-

***Parent Teacher Conferences***
November 18 and November 19
Be sure to ask & answer questions about your child at
conferences…
School conferences give you a chance to ask questions of your child’s teacher. They also let you answer some questions
about your child that the teacher can use to help your child do better in school. Before you go to your parent-teacher
conference, jot down a list of questions. Take the list with you.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
What will be covered in your class this year?
Is my child able to do the kind of work you expect? Does he/she read at the level you would expect? Does he/she
have the math skills to do the work?
How much homework do you assign? Is my child doing the homework correctly? Has he/she turned in all assign-
ments?
Does my child come to school prepared for the day’s work?
Does my child follow the classroom rules?
Are there any big projects coming up? How will you let parents know about them?
Are there special school programs that could help my child do better? Does my child qualify for a gifted program?
Could he/she have a learning disability? How can we work together to meet my child’s learning needs?
Does my child work well with other children?
What can I do at home to help my child do better in school?
Here are some topics you may want to have ready for the teacher:
Your child’s favorite (and least favorite) subjects
How your child learns best
Your child’s interest outside of school
Situations at home that may affect your child’s behavior in school. This could include a move, a divorce or even the
birth of another child
Please join us for a great event to help raise awareness for Alopecia Areata!
Please join us for a CUT-A-THON on Wednesday, November 11th at Fringe Salon in West Bloomfield
from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. All proceeds will be donated to wigs for kids who provides free wigs for
kids with alopecia. The original and ultimate mission of this event is to bring patients and families affected by
alopecia areata together. This event is a kick off to the local alopecia areata support group. I can't think of a better way to educate the community, bring patients and families together for a fun event where we can meet and get a little pampered (yes, boys too), and to raise
money for an important organization involved with alopecia patient care.

Before and After School Student Safety
In order to provide a safe environment for
children who, for whatever reason, are not
picked up on time or for those students who
are returned to school by bus drivers, the fol-
lowing procedures will be in place for ALL
Troy Elementary Schools. Our intent is to
guarantee the safety of your child.
School Personnel will make every effort to
contact parents or persons designated on the
emergency card and inform them of the fact
that the child is still at school.
At 4:15 p.m. children whose parents have
NOT arrived to pick them up shall be taken
to the after school CARE Program. A copy
of the child’s emergency card will accompa-
ny the child. CARE personnel will be in-
formed of the situation and the child will
stay at CARE until he or she can be released
to a parent, guardian, or person listed on the
emergency card. In order to insure the safety
of the students, the same procedure will be
followed when a student is dropped off be-
fore 9:00 a.m.
CARE Company will charge a fee which will
be collected when you pick your child up.
First Occasion: $10.00 per hour per child

RECESS:
INSIDE OR
OUTSIDE?
ABOVE 20ºF Recess is held outside
FROM 15-20ºF Wind conditions
will determine.
BELOW 15ºF Inside recess
Troy School District policy states that
there will be no outdoor recess when
temperatures are below 15ºF. If tem-
peratures are between 15º and 20ºF,
the wind chill factor will be consid-
ered. It is important that children
dress appropriately: Boots, hats,
gloves and/or mittens and a warm
coat.
All student are expected to partici-
pate in recess. Fresh air, physical
play and exercise helps develop fitness
and is important to children’s ability
to focus during learning times. Gen-
erally, if a child is well enough to at-
tend school, he/she is well enough to
outside for a short period to take a
break and get some fresh air.
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR CHILD HOME:
Schools bring children into close physical contact,
thus giving communicable diseases an opportunity to
spread quickly. Keep your child home if he or she
has any of the following symptoms.
Fever—your child will need to be fever free for 24
hours without medication before he/she can re-
turn to school
Pain and stiffness of neck and headache
Sort throat
Swelling/tenderness of neck glands
Cough, if persistent and productive
Nausea and vomiting
Diarrhea and persistent abdominal pain
Jaundice (yellowing of eyes or skin)
Rash. Any skin eruptions, if red, swollen and
draining.
Red or runny eyes. Sneezing or discharge from
nose.
Following the above guidelines will help prevent a
child from developing possible complication and will
keep the school environment a healthy one.
More information about communicable disease can
be found at www.oakgov.com/health or by contacting
the nurses at (248) 848-5533.
Barnard Elementary School faculty and
staff all wish you and your family a won-
derful, safe and restful Thanksgiving!!
Remember: No school November 25-27th.
