The Beacon First Christian Church Marion, Indiana August 2017
First Christian Church Vision Statement We believe God is calling the First Christian Church to care for the mental, physical,
and spiritual welfare of our greater world community by becoming more service-oriented and mission-minded.
(Adopted in 2005)
Jesus said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the good news to all creation.” (Mark 16:15)
During the 2 for 2017 process, we had six meetings. At each meeting we learned about the needs in our community, had great discussions, and took a vote on two new outreach projects that will help us further the vision of FCC. Our voting results were taken to the July board meeting, and fully accepted by the board. Now we turn to those who were not available for the 2 for 2017 process in the hopes that you will be as excited as we are! FCC will begin working with social worker, Natalie Keller, at Kendall School as we support “Blessings
in a Backpack.” This program helps feed children who depend on school lunches and are at risk of going hungry over the weekend. Opportunities include: Providing non-perishable food items during school breaks and during holidays; donating plastic bags; going to Kendall School and putting bags of food together with Natalie each week. FCC will also work with Judge Dana Kenworthy as we support “Family Dependency Treatment
Court”(FDTC). Opportunities include: Organizing social events (the sky is the limit); leading a class; teaching a skill. Families involved in FDTC earn court cash by going to social events and by learning new skills, and this helps them work their way through the program so they can become healthy and whole. My thanks to those who took part of the 2 for 2017 process and the amazing learning opportunities that it included. It is truly a blessing to be able to reach out as a congregation to help others in our community! In Christ, Roslyn
We all need to be more diligent about church security. Please make sure the doors are locked if you are in the
building for meetings etc. Please do not allow solicitation of any kind. If you are in the building during office
hours please communicate this to myself or Roslyn. You can use the phone by the kitchen. It can be a bit
unsettling hearing noises or having someone appear in you doorway.
Thank you for your help, Janet

A Huge THANK YOU to all of our congregation! For 14 years you have all been supportive of
our KIDS HOPE USA ministry. You have contributed as mentors, substitute mentors, prayer
partners and by volunteering your time & food for parties. Most of all you have accepted the
students freely with love and care! This has been a most rewarding ministry for all involved!
A special thanks goes out to Marianne Beck and Beth Strange. They provided fun activities
and parties for the students! They made my job as director so much easier! God Bless you all.”
I greatly appreciated the dedication service and all who worked to make it possible. Thank
you for the flower and gifts! and for allowing me to work with our church in the KIDS HOPE USA
program. Sharon Pence KIDS HOPE USA director 2003-2017 ****************************
Church Family,
We want to thank you for your support during this trying time. Mother loved the church and her
friends there. The funeral dinner was delicious! It was so nice to be able to eat at the church. We
also want to thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. Mother was comforted by your
compassion. The family of Charlene Oatess

Thank You very much for all of the cards and money. You all played a huge role in making me the
person I am, and I thank you for that. I will keep you all in my prayers. Brendan Henry

Dear Friends of FCC Thanks! Lew & I thank you so very much for all the many, many prayers for us during the past year. We certainly felt them and know his recovery was and is helped by them. We are humbled by all your kindness, prayers, visits and cards. Lew is finished with therapy at the house and now I am taking him into Warsaw for out patient physical and speech therapy. Speech therapy is just to catch him up on cognitive skills that he had not used for so long. His chemo treatments are going well and we just go to IU North in Carmel once a month and then take his daily chemo medicine at home. God is GREAT!! Love, Lew & Shirley Huston
