The Jr. High Baseketball season

is already half way done and

both teams are doing very

well. As the standing sit right

now the "White" team is tied for

first, and the "Purple" team is

currently in third place. Both

teams are showing great im-

provement every day in practice

and beginning to gel together to

form two good teams. They un-

The CJH Galkat Basketball teams are

halfway through the season. After a

slow start, the Purple Galkats are 2-2 in

District and getting better every week.

Sammi Jo Brashears leads the team in

scoring, with outstanding support from

point guard Madison Jackson. Others

playing well for the Purple team include

Briley Brandon, Brooke Tucker,

Miranda Reeves, Shelby Goldsberry,

Jessica Rowell, and Brittni Williams.

These girls went a tournament in Hemp-

hill on Saturday, January 8, winning 5th

place after a 19-15 overtime victory

over West Sabine.

The White Team is sitting at 1-2 in

District, and are led by Emily Self.

They also went to Hemphill last Satur-

day and played games against Buna and

Basketball Tournament

2nd Place in District UIL for Junior High—-Great Job!!!!!!

Sixth graders at Cushing know Thursday is CAPP day. The Cam-

pus Assessment Prevention Program is presented by Debbie Tan-

ner with the Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council in Lufkin. The stu-

dents participate for one period weekly, in an interactive session

in which they learn skills of goal setting, resisting peer pressure,

decision making, dealing with stress, using time wisely and many

more things. The program last around 12 weeks and will soon

come to an end with a party the final week. Ms. Tanner always

has good things to say about the sixth graders!

A total of 128 basketball teams enter a tourna-

ment. If a team loses a game, it is out of the

tournament. If a team wins, it moves on to the

next round and continues to play until it loses

a game. Overtime will be played, so no game

will end in a tie. How many games must be

played in this tournament?

Junior High One Act Play Comes Home

With Trophy!! By Mrs. Ab.-Duffin The Junior High Theater classes presented

“The Small World of Millie McIvor” at the

One Act Play competition. December 8,

2010. Though we had a few bumps on our

road to the contest, the cast and crew did an

amazing job. The play came home with the

second place trophy!

Miranda Reeves held the title role

of Millie McIvor. She was wonderful at

learning the lion‟s share of the dialogue.

She also did a very creditable job in portray-

ing a young, overworked, and going no-

where young lady. She came home with an

Honorable Mention All Star Cast award.

Tristan Pruitt came in to save the

day during the last week before the play was

to go to competition. He did an admirable

job as the male lead, Jonathon, learning all

the lines within a very short time and devel-

oping a very enjoyable character along the

way. He managed to scoop up an Honorable

Mention All Star Cast award.

Kyndal Branton was the young,

rather naïve, assistant to Millie McIvor -

Lucy. When she walked onstage, the audi-

ence knew exactly who her character was.

There was never a moment that Kyndal lost

that really wonderful portrayal of Lucy.

She‟s a natural. Kyndal brought home the

All Star Cast award for her very believable

performance.

Brandon Matlock plays Jona-

thon‟s „sidekick‟, Toby. Toby is infatuated

with Lucy from the moment he lays eyes on

her. Brandon had the audience believing

that from the start. He did an exceptional

job being the young, innocent boy with his

first crush. He came home with an All Star

Cast award, as well.

Brooke Tucker played the social-

ite, Ms. Jennie Gifford. Her first time on

stage, Brooke‟s posture and stage presence

seemed very mature. She did a fine per-

formance in her supporting role.

Cameron Burk and Ragan Herrick

were the Hornbuckles, a very interesting

couple who visits Millie‟s dress shop. Cam-

eron was hilarious as the dirty old man mar-

ried to a very domineering woman, Ragan.

Ragan had her hands full keeping her

„husband‟ in line.

Sammy Jo Brashears received the

Outstanding Crew Member award. She

worked diligently, continuously, and effi-

ciently to help get the „show on the road.‟

Also helping with the production

were Ethan Harrell, Casey Hoffpauir, Aaron

Lowbridge, Kimberly Stephens, Joanna

Harris, Shelby Goldsbury, Austin Cruz,

Reeanne Haney, Angela Arreguin, and

Larissa Kelly,.
