From the Pastor’s Desk! July 31, 2016

You may have noticed the new Defibrillator in the vestibule of the church, courtesy of the Knights of Columbus. The ushers will be instructed on its usage in the coming weeks so they can assist in an emergency situation. If the door is opened on the cabinet, an alarm will go off along with the red light, but it does not contact the paramedics. They would still have to be called immediately. To turn off the alarm, a key is needed which is in the Usher’s Room in the Church. Hopefully it will never be needed, but it is a life saver when necessary. Thank you to the Knights of Columbus for providing us with this equipment.

Summer is passing quickly. We have already come to the end of July. In just one short month, on August 27th, we will have our first “Rock the Block Party.” It will help us to commemorate 90 years on Herrick Road!

The celebration will begin with an outdoor 4:00 p.m. Mass, and then continue with food, entertainment, and children’s activities. The committee has worked very hard to assure a fun evening for all. You’ll need to bring your lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets.

For your convenience, Healy’s Westside will be serving burgers and hot dogs for a nominal fee along with beer and wine. We do need everyone to start praying for nice weather. Let us storm the heavens with prayers now so that we avoid the storms on August 27th! Fr. Tom

III Ryan Klein and Kristen Zeleny August 6, 2016

Attention!

There will not be a 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, August 27th.

There will be an outdoor Mass at 4:00 p.m.

OUR PART

NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – AUGUST 7TH

Next week ‘our part’ of the readings, everyone’s part, is to sing this Response:

“BLESSED THE PEOPLE THE LORD HAS CHOSEN TO BE HIS OWN.”

The readings are Wisdom 18:6-9; Psalm 33:1, 12, 18-20, 22; Hebrews 11:1-2, 8-19, [or 8-12]; Luke 12:32-48 [or 35-40]. Reading this scripture before we attend Mass next Sunday will enable us to be more fully prepared to listen to God’s Word and faithfully to sing our part, “BLESSED THE PEOPLE THE LORD HAS CHOSEN TO BE HIS OWN.”

A MEDITATION

Blessed the people, like good Abraham, The Lord has chosen to be His servant. People who hear Him say, “I Am Who Am,” The ones who obey, whose hearts are fervent. Lord, blessed with inexhaustible treasure, Has this, Your people, sometimes let You down - Chosen though they are, to chase for pleasure - To forget so quickly Your thorny crown? Be merciful with us, Lord, like David, His adulterous murder forgiven; Own did he the name of sinner, fated To bear guilt, that repentance might begin. Your labyrynthine ways lead us to You, Beaten, crucified, resurrected - True. Deacon Bob

SENIOR SAGES WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10th at 4:00 p.m. in Church

Shelby Boblick, pastoral associate at St. Catherine-St. Lucy Church in Oak Park, will be offering an in-depth reflection on a woman from the Bible.

The presentation will include scripture, art, music, lectio divina, prayer, poetry and rituals to discover who she was and who she teaches us to be as people of the Word today. We look forward to her presentation.

The documentary focuses on two former University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students who filed a Title IX complaint against UNC in response to their rapes while enrolled.
