Most SHARE host sites are located in churches throughout the MidAtlan-tic region. Volunteers from each church community picks up their orders on dis-tribution day at the SHARE warehouse and brings SHARE’s fresh, nutritious food back to the church where they or-ganize their local distribution system. The Knights of Columbus chapter at St. Jude’s Church in Fredericksburg faced a particular challenge when they

formed their SHARE program in 2007. They didn’t have a church. The Mis-sion Church of St. Jude’s had only been

founded three years prior in 2004. Since its founding, St. Jude’s has operated out of an old gym, a vacant office space next to a bank and most recently, an old mo-torcycle shop. After years of hard work and intensive fundraising, however, St. Jude’s community is about to complete construction on a beautiful new church.
Not to be deterred, the Knights found innovative ways to provide the benefits of SHARE to a wide range of
organizations in their area, serving fully 13 host sites. Most recently, Cynthia Miller of Habitat for Humanity has opened its doors for distribution to the many congregations in the area. Among those taking advantage of the benefits of SHARE are Pastor Phyliss Brantley from Faith and Family Members of the Incarcerated (FAFMOI). Pastor Rip-pert “Rip” Roberts and the Grace Point Fellowship have been ordering through St Jude for over 9 months. These two programs bring new energy into the pro-gram and provide valuable support to the St. Jude’s program. While host site coordinators have turned over, the mis-sion is still the same, taking care of the community.
Current SHARE coordinator at St. Jude’s, Mark Williams, brought his experience working with the SHARE program in San Diego, where SHARE

SHARE is a SNAP
At SHARE Food Network, families can count on $40-45 worth of healthy groceries once a month, every month, for just $22. This means that families can make their food budget go twice as far without skimping on the quality of or nutrition in their food. While emergency food pantries are a good resource for people in a crunch for food now, SHARE is a wonderful long-term solution to finding healthy, fresh food without breaking the budget. In addition to empowering people to be able to afford their own groceries, SHARE also builds community by connecting people, churches, and organizations with one another. By promoting volunteer service, SHARE encourages people to be active in their communities and build new relationships.
If you want to stretch your budget and save money, SNAP might be a good option for you. To qualify, you must be a U.S. citizen or have at least 5 years of legal residence in the U.S. If you don’t meet either of these requirements, but you have children born in the U.S., you may qualify. Income requirements also apply.

originated. Fortunately, he has a lot of help, particularly from his wife, Sylvia. Many hands make light work and orders are pulled and loaded up in timely man-ner. Debbie Blackburn (tenth from left) from Amissville and Liz Vermillion (last one on right) from Bealeton assist Sylvia Williams (fourth from right) or-ganize the orders, while co-coordinator Rick Caporali (second from left) from St. Mary’s Catholic Church counts and checks the inventory. Once the orders are pulled, they are loaded into vehicles by an energetic crew at the dock. Dedi-cated driver, Willie Monroe, makes the long trips to the SHARE warehouse in all types of weather.
Thanks to the great work of the Knights of Columbus at St. Jude’s and the many volunteers who support them SHARE has provided nutritious food to many communities in the Fredericks-burg area, even without a church build-ing. Soon, they will dedicate their new church which will only strengthen the bonds of community that exist there.

Now, cut top in half and each half into 3 quarters and each quarter into ¼” pieces. Cut bottom in half, using spoon scrape out seeds and strings; this middle should be smooth. Then cut the same as top section. Place all pieces in a bowl, rinse and drain. Prepare ½ sheet pan by the lining with foil paper, spray with Pam.
In large mixing bowl combine squash and all seasonings, using spoon or your clean hands to rub spices evenly over all pieces. Spread pieces out evenly onto sheet pan and bake in oven 350 degree for 45 minutes or until fork tender and brown.

DIRECTIONS:Heat oven to 300°*** (See Hot Tips)
Pour milk, vanilla and almond extracts into a measuring cup, stir to incor-porate. In large bowl, using electric mixer cream butter and sugar, throw in eggs all at once while continuing to beat the batter. Slide flour into mixture alternating with milk.
Prepare Bundt cake pan with oil and flour. Baking spray may be used instead of oil.
It is essential that cake pans not be allowed to sit after preparation. The pan should be dusted with flour immediately before pouring in batter to prevent the cake from sticking to the pan. When flouring the pan start by sprinkling flour onto the tube, then drop remaining flour into the pan and shake well, tap out excess.
Bake 1 hour and 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
**Omit milk, vanilla and almond extracts if using Lemon Curd.
