The Best Bars in Town (Are in your Home)

July 19, 2019

Tis the season to want to sit back, drink in hand, music in the background, to get some much deserved rest and relaxation. Sure, in your younger years you would have gathered up 15 of your closest friends and spent all night having a blast at some big party or bar. But now, the best bar in town is only a few feet away, right in your basement, or family room, or kitchen, or outdoor living space. This summer, let’s skip the crowds, lines, and over-priced drinks, and talk about what we need to include when we add a beautiful bar to your upcoming renovation.

Type Before we get to the really fun part (stocking the bar) we need to decide how yours will look. Is it a main feature of the room, or would you like it tucked away? Should it be against the wall or would you like an island or counter to come off the wall? Do you want to have bar stools at the bar, or have a designated sitting area? Do you want a wet bar, or prefer to not have a sink? First figure out what structure and layout you want, then we can move on to adding things. PS – design-wise, almost anything is possible. hang? Should we make room for a dishwasher, or are you willing to carry them to the kitchen? Where will your speakers and TV go?

Don’t get too excited and add anything and everything. A wine rack is always beautiful, but if you never have more than a couple bottles of wine in your home, you don’t need it to go from floor to ceiling. On the other hand, you don’t want your space to feel cluttered. If you do need a big wine rack, or beer fridge, or lots of shelf space, go for it!

Décor and Style And last, but certainly not least, what is the vibe of your bar. Do you want to have a rustic, almost dive-bar feel, or would you like to hang out in an upscale lounge? Should it be dark and moody, or bright and vibrant? Would you like this area to feel like an entirely different place, or should we bring in elements from the rest of the house to tie it in? What materials do you want? Stainless steel countertops are easy to keep clean, butcher-block countertops have a cool style, and literally every option in between will be awesome too. What is the feature of your bar? Do you have a really cool wall or backsplash? Maybe there is a sweet chandelier that draws everyone’s attention. Would you rather decorate with barn wood or neon signs? What else would make this bar perfect for you? A dart board? A vase to collect wine corks? Personalized coasters? You name it! So now that we are ready to add a wonderful bar to your home, there is just two things left to make it quintessentially yours… What’s the name of your bar and what’s your signature drink?
