The Best Time You Will Spend On Earth...
Eucharistic Adoration provides an opportunity to get to know God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, to build a relationship person to person. Remember, the Eucharist is not a piece of a body, not a thing, its a person ~ it is our Lord, who loves us more then we can imagine. Wouldn't you like the opportunity to grow closer to your creator? Come spend an hour with the Lord. You are invited to participate in Perpetual Adoration. We have several opportunities available for your convenience. Please give me a call at (315) 507-1305 and we can get you started. We are especially in need right now for Saturdays 4 am to 6 am and Mondays 4 am to 6 am. We are very blessed to have this opportunity right here at the St. Joseph & St. Patrick Church Adoration Chapel. Please consider it as an opportunity to grow in your spirituality. Give me a call to schedule your hour. God is calling YOU!

A Glimpse at Our Past Count down to SJSP 175th Anniversary May 1, 2016
The pastorate of the Rev. Alexander Sheridan (1957-61) witnessed a number of parish anniversaries. In Dec. 1958, the St. Aloysius Young Men’s Society marked a century of activity; at the time, there were still about 200 members in the society. Twenty-five years before, in 1933, the society celebrated its 75th anniversary
with great pomp and with a decided note of optimism. A commemorative booklet published in 1933 commented: “Two reasons may be pointed out why our society has been able to weather all storms and hazards besetting the life of a society. One is, not allowing the membership to decline..the other, keeping the fires of sociability and interest burning brightly.” Toward this end, the society maintained club and recreation rooms in the assembly hall behind the church and had promoted the establish-ment of a baseball team in 1911 so as to maintain the interest of more “Americanized” parish youngsters. But at the time of its centennial in 1958, there were fewer “young men” in the ranks of the Saint Aloysius Young Men’s Society; membership figures had fallen and the number of fifty-year members had grown four fold in twenty-five years. To some extent, the Catholic Youth Organization may have superseded the Society’s function. After a long and productive history, the society ceased to exist sometime in the late 1960’s. Pope Francis’ proclamation
of the
Holy Year of Mercy
6. “It is proper to God to exercise mercy, and He manifests His omnipotence particularly in this way.” Saint Thomas Aquinas’ words show that God’s mercy, rather than a sign of weakness, is the mark of His omnipotence. For this reason the liturgy, in one of its most ancient collects, has us pray: “O God, who reveal your power above all in your mercy and forgiveness…” Throughout the history of humanity, God will always be the One who is present, close, provident, holy, and merciful. “Patient and merciful.” These words often go together in the Old Testament to describe God’s nature. His being merciful is concretely demonstrated in his many actions throughout the history of salvation where His goodness prevails over punishment and destruction. In a special way the Psalms bring to the fore the grandeur of His merciful action: “He forgives all your iniquity, He heals all your diseases, He redeems your life from the pit, He crowns you with steadfast love and mercy” (Ps 103:3-4). Another psalm, in an even more explicit way, attests to the concrete signs of His mercy: “He secures justice for the oppressed; He gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the sojourners, He upholds the widow and the fatherless; but the way of the wicked He brings to ruin” (Ps 146:7-9). Here are some other expressions of the Psalmist: “He heals the brokenhearted, and binds up their wounds … The Lord lifts up the downtrodden, He casts the wicked to the ground” (Ps 147:3, 6). In short, the mercy of God is not an abstract idea, but a concrete reality through which He reveals His love as that of a father or a mother, moved to the very depths out of love for their child. It is hardly an exaggeration to say that this is a “visceral” love. It gushes forth from the depths naturally, full of tenderness and compassion, indulgence and mercy. _____________________________________________________
