EASME/LIFE meeting
Title
The BGP:• Is a voluntary process fulfilling the obligations set in the Nature Directives,• Enhances co-ordinated and collaborative approaches among Member
States sharing a common biogeographical context,• Is strongly depending on active involvement of Member States and
stakeholders / NGOs,• Sees Natura 2000 as a network of protected areas and as a network of
people
What is the Biogeographical Process?
Title
The Natura 2000 BGP is:• a contribution to the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020:
– Target 1: Protect species and habitats– Action 1: Complete the Natura 2000 network and ensure its good
management.• an integral part of the Nature Action Plan:
– Priority B: Building political ownership and strengthening compliance– Action 6: Bring together public authorities and stakeholders from
different Member States at the biogeographical region level to address common challenges, including on cross-border issues.
What is the Biogeographical Process?
Title
Basic questions to be discussed for N2000 throughout the EU:• What are the common issues in management of habitats over the
biogeographical region?• What are the potential solutions to these problems (incl. best practice)?
What special management measures are required to accommodate habitats and key associated species?
• Are there concrete possibilities for cooperation or cooperative action linked to the preferred solutions that could be launched at the seminar?
In the end, to agree on biogeographical-level roadmaps for cooperative action
What does the Biogeographical Process want to achieve?
Title
