Nerdy Nick hates it when people wish him happy birthday on the 364 days of the year when it is

But Nick is smart, and he knows that in our country, if there is enough support, anything can

become a law.So he calls up Senator Gould…

Hi Senator, My name is Nick. I would like a bill that would make it illegal for people to wish someone happy birthday when it is not their birthday!

This Bill could get me Re-elected…

Sure Nick, Anything for my constituents

So, Senator Gould drafts a bill, its only a few pages long, and its called the

birthday bill. A few days later, during a session of the senate, Senator Gould

gets recognized by the presiding officer, and introduces the Birthday Bill

Any new bills? Sir, I would

like to present the Birthday Bill.

Very well…NEXT?

The Birthday Bill gets referred to a committee who discuss the bill, and add on a few random provisions to get some

other laws passed. Finally, the committee Orders The Bill Reported to

the full senate, and publish a public report on the bill.

All in favor of reporting the bill say YEA.

YEA!

Finally, the bill is before the whole senate, and with 88 of the 100 senators there, the senate votes on the Birthday bill…AND IT PASSESAll in favor?

Nick feels really happy, until he realizes that both the house and the president have to approve the bill before it becomes a law!

Don’t worry Nick, with a few more provisions, it'll go through.

So a Representative friend of Senator Gould's introduces the bill to the house by putting it in the house hopper. Then the bill goes through the whole process all over again in the house.

Miraculously, the house passes the bill with a 80% approval rating, all that is left is for the bill to be approved by the President. Finally, the big day is here and the bill is sitting on President Doerflers desk, he takes one look at it and…

VETO!

Oh no, The president vetoed the bill. This means that he did not like something about it, so the bill is not a law. The only chance Nick has now is if a congressman will reintroduce the bill in the next session of congress.

Will you reintroduce my bill for me?
