Term 3 is a busy term, particularly with the various Music performances that occur, but it is also a term for significant academic growth for many children so we hope that you had the opportunity to celebrate your child’s successes. Interviews will also be held next Thursday afternoon/evening. If you have not made a booking as yet, you may access the booking system using the logon details below. Rehearsals are well underway for the School Concert on Wednesday 14 September. Thank you to all of you for supporting the children with their costumes and props. We have had a sneak peak of one of the scenes at our assemblies this week and it looks amazing. I would encourage you to access the Trybooking link below if you are interested in attending this performance as tickets are selling out quickly. https://www.trybooking.com/MPLB or https://www.trybooking.com/221339 I was fortunate enough to spend some time in the church this morning at our Chapel Choir rehearsal. The development of this choir over the past year has been quite something and they are making a wonderful sound. It is a big commitment in time (and early morning organisation!) to be at School for 8am rehearsals twice a week so well done to our choristers. I hope that many of you can come and join us at the Combined CCGS/CCSY Church Service on Sunday to hear our choir in full song and to meet Mrs Chrissy Gamble.

Parent Teacher Interviews The second evening for Parent/Teacher interviews is next Thursday 25 August for Kinder – Year 6. Bookings can be made by accessing the link below.

https://www.schoolinterviews.com.au/kiosk?ecode=qhqwt Activities Before School Many of our children participate in activities before school including sport training, Chapel Choir and Chess with some of these commencing as early as 7.30am. We have had a number of issues recently with children being dropped off as early as 7.15am and left to walk in unescorted to activities that are unsupervised. I am sure that you will all agree that this is not ideal for the safety and well-being of the children. As there are a limited number of teachers on the grounds before 8am, we ask that you escort your child to their relevant activity and ensure that they are handed over to a teacher or coach. If the relevant teacher or coach is not available, we ask that you remain with your child until they arrive. Many thanks for your ongoing support with this important aspect of student safety. And finally, Thursday provided a brief taste of some warmer weather so we have reminded the children that they should have a hat in their bag just in case, even though hats are not compulsory in Term 3. We thank you in advance for your support with this. I hope you all enjoy the weekend and I look forward to seeing many of you on Sunday. Sandra Holland From Fr Richard Thanks to everyone – children, staff and families – who have been preparing so carefully for Sunday’s Confirmation service at 10am. How exciting to have 12 candidates – children and adults – from both School and Parish. We look forward to supporting them, to commissioning Mrs Holland as Head of School (Operations), to some beautiful singing, to some lovely morning tea together in the Hall, and to meeting Mrs Gamble and husband Ross who will worship with us for the first time on Sunday. As always, all are welcome, and we look forward to your company at the service and afterwards if you are in town this weekend. Next Friday in The Bluey, you’ll be able to read excerpts from a conversation with Mrs Gamble about her background in teaching and education, her inspirations, and her aspirations for CCGS. There is much to celebrate and give thanks for as a community, as we mark these important rites of passage and new beginnings.

NAPLAN 2016 - Year 3 and Year 5 The 2016 NAPLAN results have arrived at the school and will be posted to parents today. You will receive a breakdown of your child’s performance in the tests, compared with the National average. Along with the results, there is an explanation sheet of how to interpret each of the columns. The tests were administered in May and our early assessment of the results suggest that the children have performed extremely well. Across Year 3 and Year 5, Christ Church Grammar has achieved well above the National average in almost all areas. As a staff, we will be sharing and analysing this data and it will be considered in guiding our future curriculum priorities. The NAPLAN results certainly provide an opportunity for you all to reflect on and celebrate your child’s achievements. Please do not hesitate to contact your classroom teacher or myself should you wish to further discuss your child’s performance. Sue Moir Head of Individual Differences

Music News Danielle Arcaro – Music Director A Musical Note This week, the wonderful 5L put on a tremendous performance in both Junior and Senior assemblies. They played out a scene from the upcoming Lion King Jr. production. The rest of the school enjoyed immensely the stampede of wilder beast as they raced through the gorge, with Simba, Scar and Mufasa also making an appearance. Well done to all of those children involved. We are looking forward to seeing the final performance on stage at Xavier College. The Year 4/5 and the Chapel Choir are performing this Sunday morning for the Combined Service. As in previous Combined Services, the Year 4/5 Choir and the Chapel Choir will play a prominent role in leading the music of the service along with the Parish Choir. Please have your chorister at the church for a 9.00am warm-up with the Parish Choir. We look forward to seeing you all there. Yours in Harmony, Danielle Arcaro

The theme for 2016 Book Week is ‘Australia: Story Country’ - Focus on Storytelling

Storytelling is an ancient art form that goes right back to the days when humankind told stories while huddled around a campfire. Nowadays we have many fancy digital ways to tell stories, but they are still a combination of words and often sounds and images. A good story can entertain us, teach us a lesson, or even change the way we look at the world.

National Hockey Championships Congratulations to Tom Love who recently returned from the National Hockey Championships where he represented Victoria (and CCGS). The team finished 6th overall in the end but could have finished Runners Up if results in the final round fell into place. An amazing opportunity for Tom and from all reports he had a fantastic time and developed his already strong hockey skills. Well Done, Tom!

The Recruit Earlier this year, Olivia Nigido-Scott was invited to take part in filming The Recruit. This reality television programme follows a group of AFL players who live and work together as a team, whilst at the same time competing against each other to win a guaranteed place on the AFL list. Olivia's responsibility was to coach her recruit Daniel Cox so that he could perform at his best in the week's sporting challenge. Olivia and Daniel made a great team with Daniel delivering impressive results and both earning very positive feedback from Australian Olympic track legend Cathy Freeman. The Recruit (episode 5) aired Wednesday on Fox 8 (this episode will be repeated throughout this week).
