In 2 Nephi 9:39 we learn that to be “spiritually minded is life eternal.” If you take the first letter of each of those words and put them together, it spells smile. When we keep the commandments and focus on eternal life, we are happy. Draw a smile one each of the faces below.

JUNE: WEEK 4, ALL AGES
Fill a small bucket or container with water. Add a few toys or other objects that can get wet and cold. Put the container in the freezer overnight or until the water turns to solid ice.
When it’s time to do the activity, take the container out of the freezer. If possible, remove the block of ice from the container and place it on a try. Ask your children how you can set the toys free without waiting for the ice to melt completely.
After listening to everyone’s ideas, use a hammer, ice pick, or another tool to chip the ice away and set the toys free.
Discuss how tools make tasks easier. Then explain that an “instru-ment” is another name for a tool. Heavenly Father used the sons of Mosiah as an instrument to teach the Lamanites and free them from spiritual bondage. We, too, can be God’s instruments and teach those around us about Jesus Christ.
WE ARE GOD’S INSTRUMENTS
NOTE: This object lesson will take some preparation and will work best if you start the night before.

Trace your hand several times on a piece of paper, and then cut out the tracings. Have each member of the family do this so that there are a variety of sizes. On each handprint, write something you can do to grow your faith. Then print the tree trunk below. Glue the handprints to the tree trunk so that they look like leaves (see example to the right). Liken this to Alma’s teachings in Alma 32. Point out that the handprints symbolize the work we have to put into making faith grow.

AUGUST: WEEK 5, ALL AGES
Let’s learn about our prophet, President Russel M. Nelson. Print this page from primaryhelper.com/downloads. Then cut out the pictures that tell about the prophet. Put them in a paper bag or a small box, and take turns pulling out a picture and discussing the information about the prophet.
LEARN ABOUT THE PROPHET
91
He has 10 children: 9 girls and 1 boy.
He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah.
He was a doctor in the US Army.
AUGUST: WEEK 5, ALL AGES
He was a heart surgeon before being called as an apostle.
He likes to ski with his family.
He knows how to play the organ and often plays for meetings with the Quorum of the Twelve.

Let Your Light So Shine

Fold the paper in half on the dotted line. Cut each solid line. When you are finished cutting, cut along the fold line. DO NOT CUT THE RED SECTIONS. (You can see the red sections if you download this page at primaryhelper.com/downloads.) The red sections must remain folded for this to work. Unfold the piece of paper to reveal a huge ring that someone can walk through.
