Editor’s Note The Bottom-line The Bottom-line 74 | August 2012 I read once in a book authored by Jim Corbett that “We Indians are fatalist” and it got me thinking …are we? Do we accept whatever the fate has to offer in front of us? Are we not go-getters and rather sit and wait for a magic wand to hit upon us and magically change everything and fulll all our wishes? Well, what do you have to say to the onlookers when an under-aged girl was being molested by a group of men that too outright in a public place? Was the event so hard and inevitable that no one could have stopped it or rather even tried? Was it fate? What could have been the worst case scenario? Somebody getting hurt pretty badly on either sides - the saviors or the evils but the Best thing gaining out of that step would have stopped someone in future with such evil intensions attempting anything like this ever again. Why didn’t anybody do anything? Did we think it was meant to be? Women have been accused of many things including initiating these occurrences by wearing inappropriate or going to a pub at odd hours and the list goes on and on. What kind of an example are we setting in front of our young ones? That men are stronger than women and they (men) are allowed to do anything and women have restrictions? Is this right? At the end of the day, aren’t we humans irrespective of nation, caste, creed, colour? Yes, the pit is deeper than we think! The point here is - are we thinking right! Can we be fatalist and can provide a better nation to our young ones? A salute and last farewell from the Fusion Life team to the beautiful souls of Bollywood – Dara Singh and Rajesh Khanna - one the unbeatable charismatic Indian Hercules and the other an unmatched romantic megastar . May their soul rest in peace. They will be always remembered in the hearts of many millions around the world over. Felicitations to the new President elect of the country - Pranab Mukherjee. He is the 13 th President of India and the 1 st ever Bengali to hold this position. Symbolizing the sisters’ love and prayers for her brothers’ well-being, and the brothers’ lifelong vow to protect her, we wish everybody a very Happy Raksha Bandan. After family comes friends and hence a day marking the International Friendship Day on the 1 st Sunday of August! May all our friends’ love, support, save, bug and even torture us in all their own notorious ways, as they always do, yet without them life is colour-less. Another important day in the life of every Indian is 15 th August as we celebrate together commemorating our 65 th Independence Day. We wish our fellow nationals A Happy Independence Day. Be safe. A message to our beloved sportsmen/women competing in the Olympic 2012 – Make India and Indian proud! We are hooting for you from your homeland! P.S. – Just one last thing. Oh Rain God!
