James W Griffiths A Love StorySplit Screen – A Love Story was shot with a simple camera (a Nokia phone) and has a simple premise: two lovebirds wake up in different cities

(New York and Paris) and set off on parallel journeys to meet each other. The coffee and tea mugs align, the airplanes take off in perfect symmetry

and a truck in Paris seamlessly becomes a New York City taxi as it speeds across the screen. Marianne Kuopanportti meticulously marries each

shot to its transatlantic counterpart. Shown as part of the Edinburgh Film Festival, Splitscreen also won the Nokia Shorts competition in 2011. Mobile

phone technology continues to become more sophisticated and the competition encouraged contestants to explore the possibilities of the production

of film on a mobile phone.

James Griffiths specialises in short films and commercials and has worked with Ford, Toshiba and Lonely Planet. He is currently working on an

animated short to be released later this year.

Gwnaethpwyd Split Screen - A Love Story yn defnyddio camera syml (ffôn Nokia) a seilir y ffilm ar syniad syml: mae dau gariad yn deffro mewndinasoedd gwahanol (Efrog Newydd a Paris) ac yn cychwyn allan ar deithiau cyfochrog i gyfarfod â’i gilydd. Mae’r mygiau te a choffi’n sefyll ochr ynochr, mae’r awyrennau’n codi i’r awyr mewn cymesuredd perffaith ac mae’r tryc ym Mharis yn troi’n ddi-drafferth i dacsi yn Efrog Newydd wrth iddowibio ar draws y sgrîn. Mae Marianne Kuopanportti yn cysylltu pob darlun yn drylwyr gyda’r hyn sy’n cyfateb iddo ar draws yr Atlantig. DangoswydSplitscreen fel rhan o Ŵyl Ffilm Caeredin, ac hefyd enillodd gystadleuaeth Nokia ar gyfer ffilmiau byrion yn 2011. Mae technoleg y ffôn symudol ynmynd yn fwy soffistigedig o hyd a bu’r gystadleuaeth yn annog ymgeiswyr i archwilio’r posibiliadau o gynhyrchu ffilm ar ffôn symudol.

Mae James Griffiths yn arbenigo mewn ffilmiau byrion ac hysbysebion ac mae wedi gweithio gyda Ford, Toshiba a Lonely Planet. Ar hyn o brydmae’n gweithio ar animeiddiad byr a ryddheir yn ddiweddarach yn y flwyddyn.

Julia Winckler and Nerea Martinez de Lecea Leaving AtlantisAt.lan.tis, noun. A mythical island in the Atlantic Ocean, west of Gibraltar, said to have sunk into the sea. (The Random House College Dictionary.)

‘I gaze fixedly at the map [...] I count the places where I have been [...] the map absorbs a strong sense of loss. I’m shipwrecked, I come from Atlantis.’

Dubravka Ugresic, The Museum of Unconditional Surrender.

‘Leaving Atlantis’ is a short film based on the themes of cultural displacement and loss. It explores the experience of being uprooted from one’s homeland.

Nerea Martinez de Lecea is an interdisciplinary artist who works predominantly in video and photography. She is a winner of The Commission, a (UK) national

dance film competition and produced the photographic book, ‘A Country I Always Carry With Me’ with Julia Winckler.

Julia Winckler works as a senior lecturer in photography at the University of Brighton and exhibits internationally. Lost and recovered memories have been key

themes of her work to date.

‘’Rwy’n syllu’n ofalus ar y map [...] ‘Rwy’n cyfri’r llefydd yr wyf wedi bod ynddynt [...] mae’r map yn amsugno teimlad cryf o golled. ‘Rwy’n ddrylliedig, ‘rwy’n dod

o Atlantis.’ Dubravka Ugresic, The Museum of Unconditional Surrender.

Mae ‘Leaving Atlantis’ yn ffilm fer yn seiliedig ar themâu dadleoliad diwylliannol a cholled. Mae’n archwilio’r profiad o gael eich dadwreiddio o’ch mamwlad.

Mae Nerea Martinez de Lecea yn artist rhyngddisgyblaethol sy’n gweithio’n bennaf ym meysydd fideo a ffotograffiaeth. Enillodd The Commission,

cystadleuaeth ffilm ddawns genedlaethol yn y DU a chyhoeddodd y llyfr ffotograffig, ‘A Country I Always Carry With Me’ gyda Julia Winckler.

Mae Julia Winckler yn gweithio fel uwch ddarlithydd mewn ffoograffiaeth ym Mhrifysgol Brighton ac mae’n arddangos ei gwaith yn rhyngwladol. Y themâu

allweddol yn ei gwaith mwyaf diweddar yw atgofion sy’n cael eu colli a’u hail-ddarganfod.

Kate Street Mererid’s DutyKate Street was an artist in residence at Aberystwyth Arts Centre in 2011 and chose to spend time developing her skills and techniques in animation.

Her aim was ‘to create layered animations that convey the handmade and drawn aspects within my practice’. The film on show here, ‘Mererid’s

Duty’is one of the results of this work and is based around the Welsh myth of Cantre’r Gwaelod, the Welsh Atlantis in Cardigan Bay.

“There seem to be several different versions of Cantre’r Gwaelod that exist. One of the oldest tales is of a well-maiden called Mererid, who was

distracted from her duties of closing the sluice gates and thus caused the flooding of the lands and the destruction of 16 noble cities. I was drawn to

this version because of it moral warning to young women everywhere – don’t neglect your duties!”

Kate Street studied painting at Winchester School of Art and the Royal College of Art.

Roedd Kate Street yn artist preswyl yng Nghanolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth yn 2011 a phenderfynodd dreulio amser yn datblygu ei sgiliau a thechnegau ym maes animeiddiad. Ei bwriad oedd ‘i greu animeiddiad mewn haenau sy’n cyfleu’r agweddau creu â’r llaw a darlunio o fewnf’ymarfer.’ Mae’r ffilm a arddangosir yma, Mererid’s Duty, yn un o ganlyniadau’r gwaith hwn ac mae’n seiliedig ar y chwedl Gymreig Cantre’rGwaelod, yr Atlantis Cymreig ym Mae Ceredigion. “Mae’n debyg bod nifer o wahanol fersiynau o stori Cantre’r Gwaelod yn bodoli. Un o’r straeon hynaf yw’r un am warchodwraig y ffynnon, Mererid, a esgeulusodd ei dyletswyddau o gau’r llifddorau gan achosi llifogydd mawrion a ddinistrodd 16 o ddinasoedd hyfryd. Apeliodd y fersiwn hon atafoherwydd ei rhybudd moesol i ferched ifanc ymhob man - peidiwch ag esgeuluso’ch dyletswyddau!”

Astudiodd Kate Street baentio yn Ysgol Gelf Winchester a’r Coleg Celf Brenhinol.
