Dear Parents and Friends of Redwood School, Well, I believe spring has truly arrived. As you read this letter our third and fourth grade students have finished taking the state assessments. We are proud of the growth all our students have made throughout the year and look forward to getting back the results. A very special thanks goes out to all the teachers, volunteers, and you, the parents who have created such a concerted effort to help all our children be successful. It truly does take the whole team. Meanwhile, our kindergarten, first, and second grade students will be taking some diagnostic assessments this month. These will help give their future teachers even more tools to help them determine each child’s strengths and areas of improvement. We also completed the Crushers reading program. Redwood PTA will be having a Book Swap on May 13th and holding another Reading Challenge over the summer to keep students reading while away from school. More information will be coming home in the next few weeks. May is sure to be a month that will fly by, as the whole year seems to have. This time of year also begins the fun events for our fourth graders to celebrate the accomplishment of completing elementary school. This year’s graduating class certainly has a full docket of fun activities planned including a Crushers game, the annual visit to Troy, and the fourth grade recognition program which will take place in the Performing Arts Center at the high school. This could not happen without the leadership of our PTA volunteers and everyone is thankful for your efforts. As always, feel free to contact me at the school office or via email at any time. Sincerely, T.J. Ebert Redwood Elementary Principal The Branch The Newsletter of the Redwood PTA May, 2015

Dear Parents and Friends of Redwood School,

Well, I believe spring has truly arrived. As you read this letter our third and fourth grade

students have finished taking the state assessments. We are proud of the growth all our students

have made throughout the year and look forward to getting back the results. A very special

thanks goes out to all the teachers, volunteers, and you, the parents who have created such a

concerted effort to help all our children be successful. It truly does take the whole team.

Meanwhile, our kindergarten, first, and second grade students will be taking some diagnostic

assessments this month. These will help give their future teachers even more tools to help them

determine each child’s strengths and areas of improvement.

We also completed the Crushers reading program. Redwood PTA will be having a Book Swap

on May 13th and holding another Reading Challenge over the summer to keep students reading

while away from school. More information will be coming home in the next few weeks.

May is sure to be a month that will fly by, as the whole year seems to have. This time of year

also begins the fun events for our fourth graders to celebrate the accomplishment of completing

elementary school. This year’s graduating class certainly has a full docket of fun activities

planned including a Crushers game, the annual visit to Troy, and the fourth grade recognition

program which will take place in the Performing Arts Center at the high school. This could not

happen without the leadership of our PTA volunteers and everyone is thankful for your efforts.

As always, feel free to contact me at the school office or via email at any time.

It is so hard to believe that as I write this, our children have just a few weeks left before summer

vacation. This is such a bittersweet time of year for me, excited for the warmer weather, but sad

because we move on from the people who have just spent the past year educating and building

relationships with our children.

I have spent the past few weeks reflecting on this year, thinking of all the programs our PTA was

able to provide to the school and benefit the children. I am so grateful for all of the parents who

were able to volunteer time and/or support PTA events and fundraising to make so much

possible. I am hoping to have the same success next year so that our children can continue to

benefit from programs.

Last week we celebrated Staff Appreciation Week. We are fortunate to have a wonderful staff at

Redwood, who really go above and beyond to make sure our children are cared for and educated.

We celebrated with muffins, a taco lunch, sweet treats, gift cards, water bottles, and a new

refrigerator for the school. Thank-you to all who helped make our staff feel special for the week.

As the school year comes to an end, I would like to express my thanks to all of the Redwood

Elementary Staff who spent countless hours to making sure our children were educated and cared

for. Mrs. Blankenship, Mrs. Darkow, Mrs. Gray, Mrs. Ladikos, Mrs. Meister, Mrs. Minnich,

and Mrs. Stuart, I hope each of you enjoy your retirement and I want you to know I feel honored

knowing and working with each of you. I would also like to thank all of the parents who will be

transitioning to Troy for their countless hours of volunteering at the school. Because of your

dedication, programs were successful and all children, as well as the school benefited. You will

be dearly missed.

Again this summer the PTA will be sponsoring a Summer Reading Challenge. Not only does it

provide your child the opportunity to win a “lunch of a lifetime with Mr. Ebert”, however, it will

help prevent regression in your child over the summer break.

Finally, I hope you and your family enjoy your summer vacation!
