Miss Tabor to perform with national organization
Hannah Tabor, daughter of Joseph E. Tabor, Jr. of Harned; and Winilee Tabor of Tullahoma Tennessee, has been selected to perform with a national performing organi-zation known as The Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus.
Hannah participates in Lo-cal Choirs and is currently taking private voice lessons with Anne Baldwin. Han-nah has been accepted as a student at Lee University in Cleveland Tennessee and will start in the Fall as a Music Education Major.
Hannah will join other se-lect student musicians chosen from applicants representing nearly every state when The Sound of America Honor Band and Chorus begins its 2012 European Concert Tour in July. Selection into The Sound of America member-ship is a distinguished honor for all participants. All appli-cants are carefully screened and chosen only after a rigid character and musical evalu-ation.
All student performers will meet on the campus of Eliza-bethtown College, Elizabeth-town, Pennsylvania on June 29. After four days of inten-sive rehearsal and orienta-tion, the group will depart via jet from the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York for Frankfurt, Germany. The group is scheduled to present nine performances in some of Europe’s fi nest con-cert halls and major cathe-drals during its 23-day con-cert tour. The students will experience the cultures of six countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France and Luxembourg. Some of the exciting locations that will be visited during the tour are Paris, Venice, Salzburg, Stresa, Verona, Rothenberg, Grindelwald, Luxembourg, and La Chaux-de-Fonds. Clyde M. Barr, past State President of the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and President of the North American Music Festivals which sponsors music festi-vals throughout the U.S. and Canada, is Tour Coordinator and Conductor of the Honor Band.
Dr. Nancy Klein, Graduate Program Director and Direc-tor of Choir in the Depart-ment of Music at Old Domin-ion University in Virginia, is the Conductor of the Honor Chorus.
Students who have quali-fi ed for The Sound of Amer-ica membership are respon-sible for all costs involved with the trip. Frequently, however, local businesses and civic clubs who have an interest in helping deserv-ing students will offer some fi nancial sponsorship to the student representing their community.
The Sound of America Honor Band & Chorus, cel-ebrating its 36th year in 2012, is recognized as one of the fi nest and most successful European Concert Tour pro-
grams in existence. It has re-ceived international acclaim for its exemplary success in achieving outstanding cul-tural relationships with Eu-ropean countries. The Sound of America has been the re-cipient of letters of commen-dation from former United States Presidents George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan and George H. W. Bush; former Under-Secretary-General to the United Nations Dick Thornburgh, former Gover-nor of Pennsylvania and U. S. Director of Homeland Se-curity, Tom Ridge and Secre-tary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
The Sound of America, Inc. is registered with the Com-monwealth of Pennsylvania and The United States Inter-nal Revenue Service as a non-profi t corporation.
