Expected time of arrivals: Gr 4 – 14:00-14:30 Gr 5 – 12:30-13:00 Gr 6 – 13:30-14:00 Gr 7 - 17:00-17:30 Tours – 2019 Educational Tours - organisational and booking deadlines : With our tours scheduled to depart next week for their various destinations, there is still a great deal of organisation which has to be done and deadlines which have to be met when planning school tours which collectively have to accommodate between 400 and 500 pupils and supervising members of staff during the course of the week at the venues in the country. It is important to note that all requirements have to be met before a child is able to go on tour. Please ensure that all documentation is completed and returned to the register class teacher timeously. This year our tours (grade 4 to 7) are scheduled to take place next week from 26 August to 30 August. Details for the different grades and their destinations can be found in the table above. Please note that no electronic devices (cellphones, tablets etc) are allowed on the tours. Parents are advised to limit the amount of money given for tuckshop purchases as well. The departure times stated above for the various grades will be adhered so please ensure that you plan your morning accordingly as no buses will be delayed for late comers. Further information on each tour is available on the tour requirements letter. Condolences Our condolences to Rebecca and Raymond Qian and their family on the passing of their mother recently as well as to Mrs Botes and Ms Woodward and their families with the passing of both their fathers recently. Summer Uniform With the weather showing signs of warming up a

little sooner than previous years, pupils can start

to wear their summer uniform this week with all

pupils expected to be in their summer uniform by

2 September.

SGB – Safety and Security Meeting Towards the end of August, the security

portfolio of the SGB will be hosting a meeting

for interested parties to provide comment and

advice on the school’s security. The intention of

the meeting is to have parents who are involved

in the security industry attend and provide their

input on the current status of school security

and input on future improvements. If you would

like to attend the security meeting, please

email [email protected]. If you would like to

provide general comments for the security

portfolio to consider or discuss at the meeting,

please send your communications to the above

address before 20th August.

Soapbox Derby - Wednesday 11 September

Best fun ever! Classes in each grade race against

each other to see who

can do the most laps

around the soapbox

course! Please hand

your forms in,

together with R50,

before 10 September 2019 either to your class

teacher or to the Finance office.

Please keep dress-up low key, use what you have

at home...please don't go out and spend a fortune

on outfits. (There are no prizes for the best

dressed) Get creative! Class 'war-cries' are

optional. The focus is on the racing!

Extra Mural

Athletics It seems our Athletes are setting the pace in the

Athletics meets recently with Bryneven winning

last week’s meet against 4 other schools. The

meet was hosted at Bryneven and we thank Mr

Naicker and Mrs Harrison as well as the ground

staff for the organisation for the day. Thank

you to the Bryneven staff who also assisted. We

received a number of compliments from the

visiting schools for the day. Last week’s win

ensure that Bryneven has now won 3 out 3

athletics meets so far. Way to go team.

Cross country We would like to congratulate the following

runners for an outstanding performance at the

Cross-country league meetings this season, as

well as on their selection to represent the

district team at Leeukop Prison on Wednesday,

21 August: Joseph Bam(U9), Mojalefa Moja (U9),

Micaela Roome (U9), Kaia Lin (U9), Tatum

Ramdhani (U9), Mapalo Chilila (U9), Aniek Voogd

(U9), Zara Reynolds (U10), Megan Roome (U11),

Danielle Sassenberg (U11), Michael Munger (U12),

Erin Clouston (U12), India-Rose Cope (U12),

Zamaswati Kgoatla (U13), Samika Sukhnandan

(U13), Polite Nyoni (U14), Jake Matheson (U14),

Daniel Cary (U14), Refiloe Dombo (U14) and

Qinisile Mbambo (U14). We would like to wish

them the very best for their run at district level.

National Arts Music Festival Cherry Juan (5D) participated in the National A-

Arts Music Festival and she received three

certificates and Medals:

Piano Classical Music Baroque: A++

Piano Classical Music Impressionistic and Modern:

A++

Piano Classical Music Classic: A+

She is invited to participate and perform at

Arnold Music Festival in May 2020.

Many will remember her sister Chi-Chi Juan who

was always in our newsletters with her

accomplishments, her father recently informed

me that she is still doing fantastically winning

numerous awards with one of the most

prestigious being awarded the 2019 "Golden

Classical Music Awards" International

Competition. She is invited to perform at

Carnegie Hall in New York in November 2019.

These sisters are really something special.

Judo

Well done to the Losco brothers (Marc and Alex)

as well as the Mather brothers (Ethan and Ryan)

who recently competed a Judo tournament where

they all performed well and received medals.

Rhythmic Gymnastics

Madison van Niekerk, Grade

4A, took part in the Central

Gauteng District Rhythmic

Gymnastics Competition,

held at WITS on 3 August.

She was the overall Top

Level 4 gymnast and has

been awarded her Central

Gauteng Colours. She has

been selected to represent

the District at the

Provincial Competition at

the end of August.

Central Gauteng Lions Cricket

Well done to Joss Potgieter (7A) who

has been invited to the third and final

round of the U13 trials.

Club Hockey

Well done to Kayson Holtzhauzen (6B)

who has been recognised as the “Top

U13 Goal Keeper” of the season at his

Club Beaulieu Hockey Academy.

Area Cricket Well done to the following boys who have been

selected to represent NSSSC for the
