Dear 7 North,

Happy November!

November brings many things: cold gusts of wind, earlier sunsets, and new pumpkin-

flavored everything. For Key Clubbers, November might seem a little action-packed after

that rush of Region Training and Fall Rally, but we assure you that November stands its

ground. November brings Key Club Week, a time to just celebrate Key Club and the Kiwanis

Family through service and member recruitment. November brings Thanksgiving, a time for

our ohana to come together. And November brings the beginning of the end — of our first

semesters in school, of summer heat and — sadly — of the Key Club term.

I could not be more proud of this division’s attendance and performance at Fall Rally North

2013. You were truly phenomenal — from almost doubling Fall Rally North attendance with

over 200 members to raising over $1,000 for Pediatric Trauma, you humbled me and made

me even prouder to be your Lieutenant Governor. We may not have won the spirit stick. But

your strength, volume, and character really shone through. Next Year!

Clubs, do remember to pay dues! The minimum charged is $11, and they must be received

by December 1! We recommend that you send your combined check to Key Club

International by November 22. Officers, please refer to my latest dues email for more info.

My goal is to have all dues in by December 1 (or at least in the month of December), so

please work toward that and contact me if you have any questions!

As December approaches, be on the lookout for new holiday service opportunities and Key

Club events, namely Candidate Training Conference for those of you interested in being

elected as Lt. Governor for 2013-2014 and the annual WalMart Christmas Project. Stay

tuned for more info to come about those!

As you submit your dues and prep for winter, take the time to reflect

on your Key Club journey this year. What has been your favorite

service project so far? What do you look forward to at DCON 2014,

Sacramento? What will you leave as your GOLDEN legacy? Let me

know — send an email to [email protected]. I’d love to hear

your thoughts.

In friendship and service,

Melanie Fu

D7N Lt. Governor

I am a junior. My home club is Luther Burbank. I love the anime Naruto. I like to watch

Korean dramas and listen to K-pop. I am terrified of cats. I'm excited to serve you guys

for my 13-14 term.

My name is Angelazo and I'm a junior at St. Francis. My favorite colors are dark purple and

yellow. I have a dog named Walter and he inspires me to be a better person. In my spare

time I enjoy playing my ukulele. I strive to be the very best, like no one ever was; as a

baby bee I was trained by the 7N hokage Melanie. Under her buzzy bee wing, I developed

a passion for my division and a hunger to spread good works and spirit across the land.

Hello everyone! My name is Karen Chan and I am

the current Kiwanis Family & Foundation Task

Coordinator. This is my fourth year in Key Club and

I absolutely love it. As a freshman, I have always

enjoyed attending service events by myself, but I

think volunteering with friends is very rewarding.

It's the best of both worlds: helping your

community and spending time with dear friends.

Outside of volunteering, I enjoy reading a good

book and programming. I'm an introvert, but I love

meeting new people. I am a listener and very

approachable, so please don't hesitate to ask me

any questions or tell me a funny joke or even vent

to me. I'd love to listen. If you're interested in

starting K-Kids, Aktion, or any other programs for

Key Club, I'm your gal. I look forward to working

with all of you beeeautiful individuals. :-)

Hi! I'm Mamie. I'm a senior at Inderkum High School,

where I am involved in a variety of extracurricular

activities. I'm an honest and generally easygoing person,

but I am passionate about the things I love! I enjoy art,

and I helped paint murals in my school and have had my

ceramic ware featured in my school's district office. What

I love about art is how much brighter it can make

anything - You know what I love about Key Club? We

brighten up our community through service. I've always

wanted to make a difference, and Key Club has been

instrumental within my growth as a human being and

happiness. :)

"Greetings and salutations, my fellow shinoBEES! I'm

Nicole and I'm your Member's Relations Task Coordinator.

Several things you should know about me is that I am a

Naruto enthusiast and frozen yogurt is the way to my

heart. Most importantly, I am beyond excited to work with

all of you and making sure your hard work does not go

unnoticed... cos I'm always watching you. Not even

blinking. Main introductions having been established, I

look forward to spending an amazing year getting to know

my BEE-utiful Ohana! ♥"

All divisions from Region 16 came together on this momentous

day in order to learn how to become great leaders. We started

off the day with a small rally to get pumped up, and with guest

Lincoln To, District Tech Editor, we tested our teamwork with

a little ice breaker, where volunteers from each division

mummify their Lt. Governors with toilet paper. When the

excitement finally ended, each division broke away from the

rest of the region to have their DCMs for the month, and during

which, guests from several Circle K members came to talk to

us briefly about their Key to college. After we all calmed down,

we were able to go off on our own to the many different

workshops to acquire skills become the best leaders we can

be. Then towards the end of the day, we all participated in a

service project to help make capes for young children for a

while. Finally, after our closing session, the members could

show off their moves at the dance or their skills in a variety of

games, and end the day with a cool drink at Tapioca Express.

Page 11: The Busy Bee | Volume 5, Issue 4 | November 2013

With Fall Rally North right around the corner, 7 North

must be prepared to show off their spirit. Therefore,

these busy bees came together in William Land Park to

practice their cheers and make posters and signs. But

before they did that, they still had to have the division

meeting, and to make things interesting, these talented

clubs had to give their announcements with a song. Then

after warming up their vocals, 7 North was ready to

cheer! Splitting up into two groups, they learned new

cheers and practiced old ones under the shade of the

towering trees, and when they were ready, the two

groups battled it out in a spirit battle, bringing some

energy to the quiet park. Finally, after cheering for quite

some time, the bees needed to cool down, so they began

to make their spirit posters and key blades, ending the

day with some relaxing arts and crafts.

D7, D7, what?! D7, D7, D 7 NORTH! Fall Rally North

just came and went, and these 7 North bees showed

Six Flags their Key Club spirit. Along with divisions from

all over, the bees cheered their hearts out in attempting

to win the honor of having the spirit sticks as they

auctioned on the LTGs and district officers to raise

money for PTP. After these Key Clubbers have powered

through the session and cheered for about two hours,

they were able to relax with complimentary drinks and

enjoy themselves around the park the rest of the day.

But the cheering didn’t have to stop. One could hear

and watch enthusiastic cheer battles and how do you

feels all around the Six Flags. In the food court, in lines,

and even on rollercoasters.

“Project Eliminate is a partnership between Kiwanis and UNICEF to

ELIMINATE Maternal Neonatal Tetanus (MNT) from the world by 2015!

MNT is a terrible disease that affects the lives of mothers and babies in

28 countries worldwide. Recently, Key Club has helped to eliminate MNT

from countries such as China, Iraq, and Cameroon, but we're not done

quite yet! Your help is needed to achieve our goal! It only costs $1.80

(CAN YOU BEELIEVE THAT?!) to save the lives of a mother and her

future babies, so think about donating the money you would've spent on

that triple-mocha-cappuccino-frap to Project ELIMINATE!”

Pediatric Trauma Prevention, or PTP “is an organization that aims to

prevent childhood trauma accidents, the #1 case of death in children

under 14. These accidents can include anything from burns to bike

helmet defects and are often devastating- but the upside is that they

are completely preventable through lots of education. Raising

$150,000 for PTP is the California-Nevada-Hawaii Key Club District's

goal for 2013-2014, and as D07N we'd like to contribute as best as we

can!”

Hey there 7 North,

I’m sure you’re all busy planning for Thanksgiving, and possibly college applications

for the seniors out there, but I know you guys will take some time to just give back

to the community as thanks, in honor of this month’s holiday, because that’s what

we do. There are plenty you guys can do, including the events mentioned earlier in

this newsletter, so just go out there and do it!

As you guys may have read, 7 North has attended some big events these past few

months, and we have all been really busy, but as things are starting to settle down,

I hope you guys can tell me about your experiences in Key Club. I’m sure you guys

have been doing lots of service, and I am so proud of you all and can’t wait to hear

from you.

I will try my best to incorporate all of the articles and visuals you guys send into the

newsletters because I want everyone to see what a great job 7 North is doing. We

are all creating these newsletters together whether you know it or not, so I want

you all to keep writing and keep me updated. You can send

me whatever you have at [email protected]. I

want to see my inbox full of articles and pictures.

Lastly, have a happy Thanksgiving. Eat all that you are able

to. Be careful on Friday. Good luck on college applications (if

you are a senior). And continue BEEing awesome people!

Keep on buzzin,
