The Arrival The groups from the Hutt valley and Taranaki arrived- tired and excited after their trip. It sounded like there was a lot of singing and fun along the way.

Ice Breakers We started off day one by playing some ice-breaking games that were devised by Hayley and the Dream catcher Team

Day One: Presentations The group presentations. They all did an amazing job presenting and representing what they do in their groups. A very entertaining and informative afternoon. This was what the Hui was about - an opportunity to share what they do and to learn from each other... and to make new friends
The Dream Catcher Team from Lower Hutt did their presentation is the format of a radio show- that illustrated some of the things that they do at their meetings. It included a group affirmation, singing, ukulele playing, and discussing about their goals.

The Our Voices Network (Palmerston North) always give such a professional presentation. Even though their facilitator Sophie could not make it, and they did not have the book with the outline of their talk they problem solved and ran their presentation seamlessly and in an engaging manner.

The Taranaki Networks presentation was awesome. You could see the work that they had put into it and how they supported each other during it. Brendan was unable to make it- but he delivered an inspiring speech via a video he made

What can we say about The Fantails (Upper Hutt)? It was such a great way to close off the first day with several musical numbers - adaptations of songs which told the story about what a network means to them.

Our fantastic hosts We are incredibly proud of all the Our Voices Network members for their contribution to the Hui. Vinnie did a great job and handled a number of the MC duties including welcoming people, blessing the food, reading out the community awards, and giving a closing speech.
Thank you to the Our Voices network members for being our tour guides. Jesse did a great job giving members from other Networks a tour around the Lido and the Esplanade - everyone he took there wanted to come back and spend more time there
Craig, Callum and Vinnie to other in a tour of “The Design School- where they also presented the teachers with their community involvement awards.
Callum and Vinnie also did a great job with the network presentation and supported the rest of the team so professionally.
Craig was so good at making everyone feel welcome and connecting us with his local community- especially when we were at the bowling club the night before. He received a friendship award from the other groups in recognition of his efforts
... and a special mention to Tithi who helped with some of the Our Voices presentations (as well as being the set up for the event).
The Starlight Souls members did a great job behind the scenes helping make the Hui a success. Sophie T and Sophie D were both such a great help setting up the venue and welcoming people. Simon K was so engaging, and It was great seeing Simon W spending time with us all. Thank you to Jordan for making people feel so welcome. This was recognised by members of the other Networks who awarded him one of the friendship awards.
Thank you to the Our Voices Network and The Starlight Souls for being such great hosts

See you next time... You know it must of been a good conference when nobody wants to leave. The day concluded with awards to all the members- recognition by the facilitators on their achievements this year. This was followed by friendship awards - where each group nominated a person from another group who showed the spirit of friendship- a very difficult decision.
Lots of hugs, tears, smiles as people departed... Everyone is looking forward to doing this again and hopefully meeting members of new Network groups

What a fantastic two days we all had. It was awesome to spend time with all our Network group members together. It was great seeing you all take the opportunity to make new connections, learn from each other, take up new challenges, and support and cheer each other on.
Thank you to all the people that supported them; the family members; members of the community; Paul Greenbrook(for producing such a fantastic digital story about their journey); the staff at Te Manawa; Mana Whaikaha and the Lion Foundation for the funding that helped us hold this event; the network facilitators (Sophie Gulliver, Hayley Jeffrey, Louise Fletcher , Kazu Toyoshima, Gemma Lindegren, and Nadine Richardson), along with other Community Connections staff... You all helped to make this event great
Thanks for the fun, Matt Sang Community Connections

● Be part of a peer support network ● Support and learn from each other ● Share their own knowledge, skills, passions and talents ● Get involved and contribute to their community ● Develop lasting and caring friendships
Neighbourhood Connections members own their groups… They decide how it is run and make the important decisions about the group’s direction- including:
● What are our group rules? ● What is important to us? ● How can we use our skills? ● What are our goals? ● What parts of our neighbourhood can we explore? ● How can we have fun together? ● How can we support each other? ● What projects can we plan as a group?
Members of the group employ a Facilitator to support them. The Facilitator assists members to work together and towards the goals and vision of the group.
