SEPTEMBER 2016 Volume XXI Issue I
Hello, and welcome to the 2016 – 2017 Montgomery Chapter program year! I am
humbled and honored to have this opportunity to serve as President of this
prestigious organization.
Under the leadership of President Nakia Tetter and his superb Chapter Executive
Committee (CEC), the 2015 -2016 program year ended in great success. The
Montgomery Chapter not only celebrated its 40th anniversary, but also received
the Platinum Award at the 2016 National PDT in Anaheim, CA. The Platinum
Award is one of the highest awards offered to AGA chapters for outstanding
performance in achieving Chapter Recognition Points.
From being just a member of AGA, to serving on several committees, to now
serving as President, I have seen the many tangible and intangible benefits AGA
has to offer. Along with the brilliant, energetic, and creative CEC, we have been
constantly working to provide a program year that will serve each and every
member.
In an effort to help members and non-members earn the Certified Government
Financial Manager (CGFM) designation, we are transitioning from offering only
luncheons to now offering workshops with CPE hours. For members that wish to
obtain the CGFM, Courtney Bruce, CGFM chair, has revitalized the studying
process! The CGFM study group is now delivered to participating members via
SKYPE.
As we know, anything that does not change will not grow. Therefore, as we go
about making these changes, we ask for your patience and support. The
Montgomery Chapter is truly a group in which each member can learn and grow
from other member’s knowledge and experience. We also ask that members help
us grow by providing feedback, supporting luncheons, workshops, webinars,
seminars, and community projects. We encourage members to bring a guest or
two along. It is each individual’s effort and thought that will bring forth an
outstanding organization.
Finally, I would like to thank all CEC members present and past that have
sacrificed their time and shared their vision for keeping the Montgomery Chapter
one of the premier chapters of the National Association of Government
Accountants. I would also like to thank each of our 300+ members for
participating in one way or another.
