Fall is finally here. I hope this includes cooler weather with less humidity. It is a great time of the year to enjoy your club. September was a busy month at the club. Along with our regular Thursday and Friday events, we had Trivia Night, Karaoke, Fall Race Series and the annual Luau. All events were well attended and everyone seemed to have a good time. Congratulations to Mark Oehmichen and crew of “Blow Me Away” for first place in the Fall Series Race. Tom Stokes tells me we had five boats participating in the race series this year. Thanks to Tom for coordinating this event.

WELCOME CRUISERS! Cruisin’ The Coast kicks off in Long Beach

Monday, October 2nd with the parade beginning at 5:30 P.M. The club will

open at 4:00 P.M. providing hamburgers, hotdogs, chips and drinks for

purchase starting at 5:00 P.M. Come out, bring your chairs and enjoy the

parade as the classic cars pass by the club entrance and terminate at the Long

Beach Harbor. We will once again serve breakfast for the Cruisers on

Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 5-7 beginning at 7:00 A.M. This is

always a fun event and good fund raiser for the club. If you would like to help

with this event, contact Julie Noble or Sandy Pace.

Marion Bowman tells me that the annual Intra Club Croquet Tourna-

ment is scheduled for Saturday, October 21 beginning at 9:00 A.M. This is for

club members only, both the novice and seasoned players. Joe Fleming is

ready to defend his title from last year and welcomes all challengers. If you

don’t play, come out and support your favorite player as a spectator.

Additional information can be found in the newsletter.

Sharon Quigley, tells me the membership drive is going well. After the first month, we have eight applications for membership. Remember the drive continues through November. More details in newsletter. I want to make you aware of several issues the Board is working on to improve the club: (1) Parking Lot – grading and new gravel should be complet-ed by October 1; (2) Club purchased and installed a convex mirror at the parking lot exit to allow for improved visibility of oncoming traffic as you exit onto the frontage road. Thanks to Terry Thomas for his help with this project; (3) Installation of the new camera system should be completed within the next two weeks. Thanks to Elvis Gates for his help with this project; (4) Wind Insurance. The MS Windpool Insurance provider notified us of a significant premium increase. We obtained premium quotes with companies outside of the windpool, resulting in a savings of over $15,000 annually. Thanks to Shelda Jones and Elvis Gates for their work with this issue.

From The Bridge–Continued Reminder About The Elevator: Recently we have had numerous instances where both doors to the elevator have not been properly closed, causing problems for members who depend on the elevator to get to the second floor and down. Please remember to close both the interior accordion door as well as the solid exterior elevator doors upon entering and exiting. If the interior accordion is not closed tightly the safety feature on our elevator locks up and will not move up or down causing unnecessary delays for those members and quests needing to use the elevator rather than the stairs. Signs are posted inside the elevator doors as a reminder of the procedures to prevent this from occurring. Thank you for your assistance with this matter. That’s all for now. As always, I would like to thank the many volunteers who keep our club running smoothly every day. If you have comments or suggestions, please feel free to give to me or one of the board members.

See you at the club!

FRIDAY NIGHT BELL RINGER

The Friday Night Bell Ringer is alive and well. This is your opportunity for you to enjoy a “Happy Hour” adult beverage while consuming an inexpensive meal while waiting for your name to be randomly drawn for that $250 bar tab. It is also time to enjoy variable activities including Trivia, Karaoke and other events. It all makes for a fun night. In September there were no winners because they were not at the Club. Who were they? Don Rayner, Robert Perty, Lee Adams and Patti Steagall. Don’t let this happen to you. Come to the Club and enjoy yourself.

FLEET CAPTAIN JUNE WIGGINS Congratulations to Ricky Welch on winning the SEISA (South East Interscholastic Sailing Association) Cressy Laser Radial Qualifier hosted by Fairhope Yacht Club. Light and shifty winds as well as stormy weather made sailing challenging. Despite these conditions six races were completed for the regatta. Qualifying for this event will allow him to represent Long Beach High School at The Cressy High School Singlehanded Championship. This will be hosted by St. Petersburg Yacht Club October 27-29, 2017. October is here. I love this month. I have always thought this was the best boating and sailing month. I hear from Tom Stokes that the fall series is done and had up to 5 boats. Looks like Mark Oehmichen took first place. Congratulations, Mark. We are going good with the Viper fund. I hear we have close to $8000. Don't forget that we are having a raffle for a free year of membership dues. The tickets are $10 each. I don't know about you, but I would love to win a free year of dues. So. I will be buying lots of chances. Hope you do the same. Not only has Ricky Welch been busy sailing, but the Grumme boys, Josh and Joel have sailed in the Back to School Regatta at Pontchartrain Yacht Club and came in first place in the 420 race series. Good going guys! May the wind be with you.

HOUSE COMMITTEE JULIE NOBLE

The date for the beginning of fall has come but I think "fall" didn't quite make it yet. I guess we should enjoy all of the warm weather as long as we can since it will eventually get cooler. September has been a busy month with our “Grill Your Own” Thursday nights, Sandy Pace's great Friday night dinners, Trivia night, Karaoke, the Fall Series Races, Croquet, the Lipton's Regatta and our Luau. A big Thank You to June Wiggins for heading up the Luau; Marguerite Hess, Terri Oehmichen and June Wiggins for decorating; Bo Clarke for cooking the pork and chicken - it was absolutely delicious; Sandy Pace's Green Bean Casserole and Pina Colada Cake, Lynn Hunt's "Tiki" cake, Shelda Jones' Chocolate Cupcakes, June's Pineapple Tree; Sandy Pace, Terri Oehm-ichen and Martin Jones for serving and Luau Linda at the Bar. We also had fried rice, Asian coleslaw and pineapple upsidedown cake which I hope you enjoyed. All in all, the decorations, food, limbo and The Lloyd "Hurricane" Munn and the Forecasters band were fantastic. (Please forgive me if I left anyone out, it certainly was not intentional - we appreciate you all). We'll be starting October off with "Cruisin' the Coast". The Kick Off Parade will be held in Long Beach and LBYC will have a bar (open to the public) downstairs and will also have for sale hamburgers, hot dogs & chips. The bar will open at 4:00 and the food will be available at 5:00. The Cruisin' VIP/Sponsor dinner will be held upstairs on Monday evening. The club is a great place to view all of the awesome classic cars so plan on coming down to the club. On Thursday, Friday & Saturday (Oct. 5, 6 & 7) Long Beach Yacht Club will be serving our "Country Cruisin' Break-fast (also open to the public) from 7-10 am. If you would like to volunteer some time during our Cruisin' activities, please give me a call, text or email - we would love to have your help. Bunco will be held on Wednesday, October 18th. Food is at 6:30, games begin at 7:00. This event is a lot of fun - great food, prizes and very reasonable. Come and bring your friends and relatives. Our annual Halloween Party is going to be held on Saturday, October 28th at 7:00pm. Hope you will be able to attend this Ghoulish party (see the flyer attached). Please check the calendar and newsletter for all upcoming events. Also, look for flyers and reminders that might be on our website, sent to you via email or on the tables at the club, and, as always, see you at your club. The Drink of the Month will be "Cruisin' (Cruzan) Confusion". There will be a special Halloween Drink fit for the likes of a goblin at the Halloween Party.
