PDA Administration of MedicationOn successful completion of this Professional Development Award (PDA) in Health and Social Care Administration of Medication at SCQF level 7, you will gain 16 credits. PDA in Promoting Excellence in Dementia Skilled PracticeThis (PDA) in Promoting Excellence in Dementia Skilled Practice is 26 SCQF credits, 16 for the HN unit and 10 for the SVQ units at level 7. It is an SQA qualification for people working with those who have dementia, their families and carers. The qualification is designed to improve professional practice, contribute to meeting the registration requirements of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC), and provide continuous professional development for employees.

FOR WHOM? The target audience for this award includes the following groups, those affected by the requirements of the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) register. Examples of the job roles candidates might currently hold include: Social Care Support Workers, Health Care Support Workers, Social Care Practitioners.

PDA Health and Social Care SupervisionThe Professional Development Award (PDA) in Health and Social Care Supervision at SCQF level 7, was created to meet the requirements of social service workers who are registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) at support or practitioner level, and who are now in a supervisory role requiring additional qualifications. The PDA in Health and Social Care Supervision at SCQF level 7 is for candidates who require a qualification of 15 credits at SCQF level 7 or above in order to meet these SSSC requirements for Supervisors.

FOR WHOM? This qualification is designed for employees who are in their first-line-management role and who provide supervision, support and guidance to other staff. Examples of possible job titles include senior care workers, senior support workers and senior day-care workers in services for older people, mental health, home care and housing support.

WHAT? This PDA is made up of 16 SCQF credits at level 7. To gain the Award, candidates must complete the following 2 units:-

PDA in Leading ChangeThe Professional Development Award (PDA) in Leading Change at SCQF level 9 offers candidates the opportunity to develop their management competence in a specific aspect of managerial work, i.e. ‘facilitating change’, which is one of the six areas of competence identified by the standards setting body, Council for Administration (CFA). This PDA concentrates on sources of change stemming from new ideas, as well as the commitment which managers need to lead and support people through the implementation stage of the change cycle.

FOR WHOM? The main target groups for the PDA in Leading Change are people who are currently employed in management posts, predominantly at first line, team leading and middle management levels. The PDA in Leading Change consists of SVQ Units, which are workplace Units. To be eligible for these Units, candidates must have current occupational experience in a management role and be able to generate the relevant Evidence Requirements.

WHAT? The PDA in Leading Change at SCQF level 9 consists of two mandatory Units:

PDA in Leadership and Management of the Work of OthersThe PDA in Leadership and Management of the Work of Others at SCQF level 7 focuses on two main areas of managerial competence — providing leadership and managing the work of others in a department, section or division. Learners who successfully achieve this PDA will possess the skills and competence to provide direction for people in their area of responsibility and enable, inspire, motivate and support them. They will also be able to allocate work on a fair basis, making best use of time and available resources to ensure agreed objectives are met.

FOR WHOM? The main target audience for this award is those currently employed in management posts, usually at first line or middle management levels (i.e. responsible for a particular section, division or department of an organisation). Learners must be in a suitable management job role and be able to generate the relevant evidence in the workplace.

WHAT? The PDA consists of 2 SVQ units, which are workplace Units at 23 SCQF credits. To be eligible for these units, learners must have current occupational experience in a management role and be able to generate the relevant evidence.

DR75 04 Provide Leadership in Your Area of Responsibility

FD3K 04 Allocate and Monitor the Progress and Quality of Work in Your Area of Responsibility

WHY? It will allow candidates to develop capacity to provide leadership and direction for people in their area of responsibility.

PDA in Planning and Implementing ChangePlanning and Implementing Change offers you the opportunity to develop your competence, knowledge and skills in planning and implementing change. The award has been developed through rigorous research involving employers, centres, and potential candidates of the qualification. The award makes use of the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for management as specified by the Council for Administration (CfA). It means that by doing the award you will be able to demonstrate that, in your work as a manager, you are able to operate in accordance with these national standards. Success in the award will mean that you will have proof that your work is up to the national standards. In this way you can contribute to your own future and to that of the organisation you work for.

SVQ 2 in Team LeadingThe Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) 2 in Team Leading at SCQF level 5 offers candidates the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge they need to do their job competently. This qualification has been specially designed for team leaders, to give them the knowledge and skills to improve team relationships and hone their own leadership skills. The SVQ in Team Leading is based on the National Occupational Standards for management and leadership.

FOR WHOM? The SVQ 2 in Team Leading at SCQF level 5 is aimed at managers in their first management role with a tightly defined area of responsibility. As this is a work-based qualification, candidates must be in posts which will enable them to provide the required evidence.

Candidates would be expected to have a limited area of control and a tightly defined area of responsibility.

WHAT? The SVQ in Team Leading consists of six Units, four mandatory Units and two optional Units.

HOW? Assessment is through performance in the workplace and simulation is not allowed. Evidence may be classified into three categories: work produced by the candidate as part of his/her job as a manager; work produced by others relating to the work that the candidate does as a manager; and statements produced by others about what the candidate has done. This evidence may be gathered by observed performance, products of work, witness testimony and personal statement, and presented as a portfolio of candidate work.

SVQ Management Level 3 and 4The Scottish Vocational Qualification SVQ 3 in Management at SCQF level 7 and the SVQ4 in Management at SCQF level 9 are nationally recognised awards accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) in partnership with MSC and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI).

Level 3FOR WHOM? This award is aimed at junior managers/supervisors/first line managers likely to be managing a small unit or a senior member.

WHAT? To achieve the SVQ in Management level 3 candidates must achieve 7 Units in total, 4 mandatory and 3 optional Units.

WHY? The SVQ Management Level 3 will give you confidence and strategies to explore your role which will enable you to progress in your career path as a manager.

HOW? Assessment is through performance in the workplace. Simulation is now allowed. Evidence may be classified into three categories: work produced by the candidate as part of his/her job as a manager: work produced by others relating to the work that the candidate does as a manager; and statements produced by others about what the candidate has done. HOW? Assessment is through performance in the workplace. Simulation is now allowed. Social Services and Health Care SVQ’s

Adults, Children and Young PeopleCTC delivers SVQ’s in Social Services and Healthcare Level 2, 3, 4 and Leadership and Management for Care Services

Level 2 SCQF 6The award is made up of 4 mandatory and 4 optional units.

The SVQ is assessed in the workplace. SVQs are based on National Occupational Standards. SQA works in partnership with other organisations to ensure that National Occupational Standards (NOS) are relevant to the current and future needs of Scottish industries.

It is a requirement by the SSSC that everyone employed in this capacity should be working towards achievement of this qualification.

This SVQ is suitable for:

Individuals who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification.

People who are support workers in care home services for adults.

Level 3 SCQF 7The SVQ 3 Health and Social Care (Adults) at SCQF level 7 qualification is mandatory for those people who are employed in the health and social care sector in a supervisory role. The qualification is work based and has a structured, but flexible delivery.

As assessment is normally carried out in the workplace this minimises any time learners would need to be away from their work and allows candidates to generate evidence based on the actual work they are carrying out.

Candidates can progress from the Level 3 SVQ in Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 7 to other appropriate SVQs up to and including level 4. Candidates may transfer across to the children and young people sector by undertaking some additional units in SVQ Social Services (Children and Young People). The progression route for each candidate will depend on their job role and level of responsibility.

This award is made up of four mandatory and four optional units.

The achievement of other qualifications such HNC Social Care can contribute towards gaining underpinning knowledge for this award.

Level 4 SCQF 8The Level 4 SVQ in Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF level 9 is a re-accredited qualification.

Upon successful completion, learners will gain an international recognised qualification which guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully.

As assessment is normally carried out in the workplace this minimises any time learners would need to be away from their work and allows candidates to generate evidence based on the actual work they are carrying out.
