Even with the rapid development of alternative sources of energy, more efficient consumption of hydrocarbons, and necessary mitigation of carbon dioxide emissions, the demand for oil and gas will strengthen, driven by the world’s developing economies. In this landscape, the exploration and production (E&P) industry is increasingly challenged to bring new supplies on line, on time, and at acceptable cost. While the world is not running out of oil and gas reserves anytime soon, their future development poses significant challenges for an industry that has only recently emerged from a long period of under-investment.

New exploration, some of which has already begun, will be hampered by the remoteness, inaccessibility, or geological complexity of many areas.

Reservoirs that have been producing for many years require increasing effort to sustain, and production levels as performance declines become progressively more difficult to reserve. The Schlumberger Field Engineer position is a demanding, sometimes physical job involving complex technology utilized to optimize solutions for our clients. The information and services the Field Engineer provides help clients locate, evaluate, and produce oil and gas reservoirs more efficiently. As a Field Engineer, you will be completely responsible for all aspects of the Schlumberger operation at the job site, be it a seismic vessel, an offshore oil rig, or a desert land rig.

When did you first hear about Schlumberger?While I was working offshore for China National Oil Offshore Corporation (CNOOC) between 1995 and 2000, I met quite a few Schlumberger field engineers and got to know the company through them.

What attracted you to apply to Schlumberger?The technology, the career development, and the opportunities for working abroad.

What were your first impressions?This is a well-organized company with superior training programs and full of young, energetic people.

Please tell us about your career history and your current job.After joining Schlumberger in year 2000, I worked as a field engineer for Artificial Lift (ALS), a product & service segment of Schlumberger. I was assigned to offshore work on rotation schedule, 28 days on and 28 days off for 3 years, to troubleshoot and repair high voltage variable speed drives (VSD) and electrical submersible pumps (ESP), which was an easy part of my life and career looking back from now. Before long, I was promoted to be an application engineer working at Beijing office. That position involved working closely with clients and assisting with designs, equipment requirements, job preparation, and analysis of all related operations.

My first overseas assignment came in April 2006. Having acquired sound knowledge about our technologies and the realities of the field, I was promoted to technical sales engineer, based at Miri, Malaysia. I was all by myself to cover east Malaysia, Philippines and Brunei Artificial Lift business and operations. In the busiest year 2007, I used up 3 passports due to frequent travels between the three countries. But I also enjoyed this assignment to view the beautiful rain forest of east Malaysia and learned diving for the first time. In 2008, after plenty of sweat, hard work and some success stories in east Malaysia, I was promoted to ALS Operations Manager of Brunei, Malaysia and Philippines (BMP).

Now I am back in China as the ALS Operations Manager for China, Japan and Korea (CHG) and also the Shekou base manager. I must admit managing CHG ALS business while taking care of the base,

and at the same time doing my company sponsored master degree education isn’t easy at all! But I enjoyed it as much I enjoyed all my past years with Schlumberger. This is a true international company full of challenges and equal opportunities!

How do you see your career progression in Schlumberger?In my first 5 years with Schlumberger, I just enjoyed whatever was offered and did not think too much about my career development. Only in 2005, I started to think about my future. In year 2006 when I passed my General Field Engineer (GFE) control, during my Career Orientation Review (COR) with my managers, I set my ambitious goal to become Operations Manager in 5 years time. Once I committed to this goal and worked my hardest towards it, my effort was finally paid off and dream became true in just two years.

What do you do in your spare time? I have a broad range of interests. Basketball, table tennis, photography, hiking and camping, diving and underwater photography, learning Wing Chun martial art are my favorite pastimes. The diving experience in Malaysia was best of all in my life so far. I have always believed in working hard and playing hard.

What are the key personal qualities that allow you to succeed in Schlumberger?I am not smarter than any others, but I am one of the hardest workers and I am honest to everyone.

Q: What are the living and working conditions like for Field Engineer?A: Working close to our customers means that you will work in a variety of environments. Living conditions range from remote villages in the desert to large capital cities. Wherever you work, you will be connected through the Schlumberger intranet to a global network providing support and sharing knowledge.Q: What about the work schedule for Field Engineer?A: This is not a typical Monday to Friday, 9 - 5 job. The work is technically demanding and hours are long for Field Engineers. The work schedule varies depending on customer requirements. They can spend days or weeks on assignments. However we recognize the need for rest and days off.Q: What possibilities exist for transfers and international assignments?A: You can either start your career abroad or in your home country. When you started working for Schlumberger, what was your first impression about this company and your job? On the same day I arrived at my first location, I immediately found out those people covered by blue worked hard, but played even harder.

Please tell us about your career history and your current job.In 2003 I had the opportunity to work in Schlumberger Tangu base as a vacation trainee for several weeks. Then in 2004 I started my career as D&M FE in Ecuador, a beautiful country. Having spent 3 years in the field to complete the fixed step training, I was promoted to Service Quality Coach position in 2007 at the same location. At the beginning of 2008 I was transferred to Beijing Geoscience Center as an InTouch Engineer, a job that bridges our tech center and the field, as well as a key role for commercializing one top R&D project at that time. In the middle of 2009 I was transferred out of China again, and became the Operations Support Manager for D&M ECR (an area includes Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Chad). After 12 months in that position, in Sep 2010 I returned to China and started the current assignment which is D&M West China FSM & OFS Korla Base Manager.

My current job is actually two roles. I am the Field Service Manager for D&M segment in West China. FSM is widely recognized as one of the toughest positions in this company. A FSM manages the daily operations at the front line; communicates and maintains a

healthy relationship with the customers; sells up our technologies; manages a team of engineers and technicians; controls the Health, Safety, Environment and Service Quality risks; and maintains the profitability through proper financial management. Meanwhile, I’m also the OFS Korla Base Manager who is in charge of a base hosting more than 100 employees and contractors. In this role I manage the facility, employees and contractors for shared services, coordinate different segments to gain synergy, and also interact with the customers and government as the local representative ofthe company.

How do you see your future career progression in Schlumberger?In near future I would like to continue with line management path and move up with more responsibilities, or become a Product Champion managing the development and commercialization of a product or technology in one of our tech centers.

What do you do in your spare time?I like spending my spare time with the family. I’m also a fan of movies, travelling and sports especially tennis.

What are the key personal qualities that allow you to succeed in Schlumberger?I can’t call my career with Schlumberger a success, yet. But I see the successful people around me are all quick learners. They are confident, adaptive to changes, hard working, persuasive and creative.

On my last job, I worked as the Field Service Manager for East Land China. On this position, I did my best to give support to my team, and motive them, we all work as in a big family. Our team delivered great results on operation, �nance, ef�ciency and superb quality.

Challenges, personal achievements and key skills in my current job: Starting Jun 2012, I moved to Field Training Champion (FTC) position. My main responsibility is to look after the training and development of all CHG Wireline �eld crew, including Field Engineer, Maintenance Technician and Equipment Operator. The most valuable asset of Schlumberge is people.

I enjoy going somewhere different, and trying something new. You can experience a lot after joining Schlumberger, however you may lose a lot while gain more, so enjoy yourself.

I am getting used to be the only female in the men’s world of oil�eld, no matter if there is surprise, doubt or admiration from others around me. Being trained by the luxuriant training system, working with a diversi�ed team, �exible but challenging working environmental and innovative attitude have made me a professional General Field Engineer in three years. I was the �rst FRAC engineer applying new technology into LiaoHe Oil�eld and Tuha Oil�eld and was in charge of the �rst deepwater sand control project in China. When/where did you first hear about Schlumberger?I heard about Schlumberger from one of my teacher’s friends when I was doing my master’s degree. She is an American, PhD in Geology, and an employee of Schlumberger; she came to China to hike from the original beginning of the Great Wall. I was her guide in Jiayuguan. She told me about her work experience in the USA, Egypt, and Africa. I was so impressed, because at that time I had only worked and lived in one small city in west China.

What attracted you to apply to Schlumberger?I like to travel and enjoy teamwork in a multi-culture environment. I’ve worked in a project in Sahara Desert, Algeria, 20 team members, 11 different nationalities. English is the working language, but also we speak another 9 different language. It is a memorable experience for me.

When you started working for Schlumberger, what was your first impression about this company and your job? My first impression was the training in Schlumberger is quite good and systematic, lots of new stuff to learn, and the courses are tailored for my job. These training have helped me prepare for my services to clients.

Please tell us about your career history and your current job.After I graduated in 1997, I worked several years in China national oil company. In 2000 I went to China University of Petroleum (Beijing) for master degree. In 2002 I joined Schlumberger as a reservoir engineer in Data & Consulting Service segment. I was assigned to 3 locations in China: Urumqi, Beijing and Shenzhen. In early 2007, I was transferred to the Middle East as Reservoir Domain Champion; At the end of 2009 I was transferred to Africa and have been here ever since.

How do you see your future career progression in Schlumberger?It has been 9 years I work for Schlumberger, I am positive about the future but I would not forecast in details what will happen. In Schlumberger, we always challenge our best to provide the best solution package in the market to answer oilfield needs. I enjoy the teamwork, like learning & sharing knowledge, and look for more challenges, I think these are my main motivations and can be found in Schlumberger.

What do you do in your spare time?I try to spend my spare time with my wife and daughter, but sometime it is a challenge to manage a work/life balance within Schlumberger. Currently I’m working in Nigeria, but my family still lives in Beijing due to visa application and my daughter’s schooling. Also in spare time, we like to do some sports, like swiming, hiking. When/where did you first hear about Schlumberger?One of my best friends from the same university joined SLB one year earlier than me. She mentioned about the lifestyle and experiences she had in her first year in SLB, which was quite attractive to me.

What attracted you to apply to Schlumberger?I still remember the three key words emphasized by the SLB recruiter when I applied to SLB: people, technology and profit. I am quite confident on that joining SLB has brought benefits for both me and the company. Lifestyle which involves a lot of travelling was also another key reason for me to apply SLB.

When you started working for Schlumberger, what was your first impression about this company and your job? I started my SLB career in 2003. Many nice, smart and interesting people coming from all over the world was the first impression that I had for the company. The job seemed to be completely strange for me.

Please tell us about your career history and your current job.I spent nearly 3 years in Middle East (U.A.E, Qatar, Oman) working as a D&M field engineer. Then I got transferred to Indonesia, where I finished my GFE (General Field Engineer) promotion and worked as a Service Quality Coach as well as Operation Support Engineer. I got transferred to China in 2009 as a Field Training Champion, which is one of my favorite jobs so far. In late 2010, I changed my role to Field Service Manager, a very challenging job back to operation again.

How do you see your future career progression in Schlumberger?I would like to try different role in some support functions, Training & Staffing, Personnel and also Supply Chain. This would actually help me do a good job in operations eventually.

What do you do in your spare time?My son has taken a lot of my spare time since 2008. I am trying my best to keep a good work-life balance. So far it is good. Travelling and reading are also something that I always want to spend time on.

What are the key personal qualities that allow you to succeed in Schlumberger?Communication, team work, flexibility, adaptability are all very important.

When/where did you first hear about Schlumberger?I heard the word “Schlumberger“ in my freshman year. I was in the class of “The Basic Principles of Logging” - the world's first logging curve was invented by Schlumberger brothers.

When you started working for Schlumberger, what was your first impression about this company and your job? My colleagues were from difference countries speaking different “English”, but everyone always enjoys the friendly and easily environment within cultures difference.

When I joined Schlumberger in January of 1997, it was my first time to use E-mail to communicate with the world, even I had used computer for more than 7 years.

Please tell us about your career history and your current job.I am a result-oriented person who like changes. After six years working in PetroChina, I joined Schlumberger Geoquest China in 1997 as software technical support engineer. In the company’s excellent training system, I paid big efforts to learn all new geosciences technologies. Three years later, I got quite familiar with my daily job and was able to take new challenges. I decided to ask for a job in the area of account management. My management fully supported me and I started my assignment as sales engineer. This position opened a new path for me. Since that, almost every two or three years, I change to a new assignment: managing different accounts such as PetroChina East, PetroChina HQ, CNOOC etc. Many challenges, a lot to learn and learned.

In 2007, I was prompted to become Global Account Manager for CNOOC to coordinate all Schlumberger segments business activities related to CNOOC worldwide. This job gave me another fantastic chance to learn how to communicate with the people from different domains and provide integrated solutions to the client at a very high level.

Then two and a half years later, my job was changed once again, this time I was assigned as Operations Manager for SIS CHG (China, Japan & Korea). My responsibility is a combination of leading a top-notch team, developing people, delivering values to our clients, promoting new technologies, marketing & sales, QHSE, etc. My current job has been completely different from the job I had when I joined Schlumberger 14 years ago.

Then I was assigned as Field Service Manager in West-Central China for more than 1 year, through which I learned more about Petroleum industry in China domestic. In 2008-2009, I worked as recruiting manager of the GeoMarket, connecting SLB with top universities to attract talented and ambitious students into SLB, into this different, exciting career. With further career development purpose, I was transferred to Paris, working in Wireline HQ as Asset Manager, gained further understanding of the industry and the company in larger scale and bigger picture. Mid of 2010, I was moved back to China again, based on both company needs and personal desire, I started my current job, as Operations Manager for Wireline, to push business move further in this region, to ensure the Pioneer position of Wireline Measurement in this industry,

Please tell us about your career history and your current job.I joined Schlumberger in 1997 as a Well Services (WS) segment Field Engineer based in Shekou, China. In 2000, I was transferred to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and started my first overseas assignment. In 2002 – 2005, I served as an in-house technical support engineer for BP operations, based in Stavanger, Norway. After that assignment, I moved to Beijing as WS Sales Manager for China area. In 2006-2007, I managed Schlumberger OFS Tanggu base as well as the Field Service Manager for WS segment in Tanggu. Beijing GeoScience Center (BGC), Beijing

Schlumberger's Center of Excellence for development of acquisition and interpretation software is strategically positioned within a science park in the heart of Beijing’s university district.

Since its opening in 1998, BGC has grown to about 260 employees— an almost equal mix of women and men of exemplary diversity. With an average age of 33 years, virtually all are fresh graduates from China's best universities.

BGC's petrotechnical and software domain experts work on a diversity of reservoir applications encompassing geology, geophysics, petrophysics, geomechanics, formation testing, drilling, well placement, and well completions.

Qingpu Product Center (QPC), Shanghai

QPC is located in the Export Processing Zone of Qingpu, situated west of Shanghai. It currently has two main units, the Specialty Tubular Unit (STU) and The Completion Product Unit (CPU). It will expand to include more units in the future. The Specialty Tubular Unit (STU) is a purpose-designed facility for the manufacture of perforating guns for use by our Wireline and Testing segments. The unit was established in May 2005 in response to increasing volume demand from the field and rising prices charged by third-party suppliers. The STU shipped its first production order in June 2006. Today, it produces more than 55 percent of the perforating guns used globally by Schlumberger. The Completion Product Unit (CPU) was established in June 2006 including machine shop, assembly and test bay facility to produce safety valves, cable protectors, solid gauge mandrels, packers and completions accessories. The CPU started its first production order in Jan 2007. The unit, which now employs about 230 professionals, has become the major completion manufacturing center of Schlumberger.

The Asia Global Sourcing (AGS), Shanghai Asia Global Sourcing (AGS), a dedicated supply chain office that leads sourcing and procurement initiatives for EMS globally. In 2004, the China Global Sourcing was established in 2004 in central Shanghai. In 2009, the Asia Global Sourcing was established after consolidation of global sourcing in China, Singapore and India. It now has around 40 dedicated supply chain experts working on the qualification of materials, parts and suppliers from throughout Asia’s vast industrial base.

WHAT IS THE TECH AND FIELD PROGRAM?

It is a combined Field + REMS trainingand job exposure development program.

Selection of Tech and Field participants: done jointly by the REMS and the Field recruiting teams.

Stage 1: International Field assignment lasting from 15 to 18 months in one of our worldwide field locations as Field Engineer (FE).

Stage 2: Tech and Field candidates return to assigned REMS Center for at least one assignment (approximately two-three years) bringing back the priceless background of true field experience, enhancing two-way communication with the field, and ensuring higher quality of final product.

Candidates include both new hires and current employees in REMS:

Preferred new hires are graduates (MSc) or post-graduates (PhD) in engineering or earth sciences.

Current REMS employees must have minimum of 18 months seniority and be willing to start as FE trainees in field operations.

Full mobility is required during field assignment. We need engineers and scientists able to work on land and sea, from arctic cold to desert heat and virtually everywhere in between, to deliver services to our customers on a 24/7 schedule.

As an FE, you will be onsite wherever our clients need you—whenever they need you.

Once back in the assigned REMS Center, full mobility is no longer required, but remains an important factor for career development.

Please tell us about your career history and your current job.I joined T&F program so I spent the first 18 months in the field as a Wirline engineer in Colombia. It’s very challenging because you need to master a lot of technical things, learn from other engineers, work with the experienced crew, and provide services to the clients to their expectations. And my biggest headache was the language. I didn’t know that Spanish is the necessity until I arrived! Most people, colleagues and clients, only speak Spanish. So it was very difficult for me at the beginning. Great thing is that you can never imagine how fast you learn in Schlumberger. I learned Spanish after a while and it’s still quite useful nowadays.Then I was back to Shanghai product center in 2009 and took the job as Customer Service Leader. The field experience helps me understand the product better, know how to communicate effectively with the locations and support their operations as much as we can.

When you started working for Schlumberger, what was your first impression about this company and your job? My first impression about Schlumberger was the deeply embedded culture of diversity. For example, the six engineers in my first location were from five countries, furthermore, no one felt him/herself or other colleague alien. In terms of job, I was so excited about the high-tech tools, the demanding operations and the full responsibility a field engineer supposed to take when seeing a real logging job in the wellsite for the first time.

Please tell us about your career history and your current job.I started as a Wireline Field Engineer in India in 2003. With the systematic training courses, tutor’s guidance, logging jobs, and, of course, a lot of hard work, I went through the fixed step training for a field engineer, from Junior Field Engineer to Field Engineer, to Senior Field Engineer, and to General Field Engineer, which is a big milestone in my career. In 2007, I moved from thefield operations to EMS (Engineering, Manufacturing, Sustaining department) with the interest in understanding how the technologies and equipments utilized in the field are developed. The first role was in the supply chain function in China as a Sourcing Specialist and I was promoted to Sourcing Manager in 2008. In 2010, I was transferred to US and entered into another function withinEMS, manufacturing. My current role is a Project Manager.

How do you see your future career progression in Schlumberger?Take more responsibilities, experience more functions.

What do you do in your spare time?Travelling is always my favorite when having a vacation. Now with the regular office schedule in EMS, I can plan the sports activities regularly, such as badminton and yoga, etc. Reading is always there no matter I am in the car to the wellsites, in the plane to the suppliers or in bed before sleep.

When/where did you first hear about Schlumberger?A successful campus talk in my University led me go into the oilfield world of Schlumberger back in 2001. Totally different life style and full of challenges were the key things attracted me at the very beginning.

When you started working for Schlumberger, what was your first impression about this company and your job? Right after the campus talk, I applied to Field Engineer position. After several rounds of interviews, I got the offer and started working for Schlumberger in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. First time going abroad, first time taking an airplane, first time living and working in such a totally different culture and environment, it was cool for the first day, exciting on the second day, but very tough after one week. Field Engineer Trainee is the step 1 of the career in Schlumberger, that’s one of the most treasury memory for me as I learned a lot of operations technology and also soft skills to work with clients and peers during that time.

What do you do in your spare time?I like sports and travel, that’s the time I can fully relax, as to perform the best at work, we need to work hard and play hard too. Good rest helps me to recover from pressure and tiredness. Travel allows me to meet more people and maintain the level of high adaptability.

I learned the basics of oilfield service industry and also the leading position of SLB in it. “Leading” has 2 meanings: one is the leading market share of most segments, which shows very strong competitive advantage Schlumberger has; the other is the strong desire Schlumberger has to pursue the leading-edge technology. My first job title was field engineer of Coiled Tubing service, Well Services. My first impression of my job is “challenging”. It means to provide excellent services to our customer with limited resources under rigorous environment..

Please tell us about your career history and your current job.I joined SLB as a T&F engineer. My first assignment is field engineer of Coiled Tubing service, WS, in Saudi. After 18 months I was transferred back to QPC (Qingpu Product Center), Shanghai, as a manufacturing engineer in STU (Specialty Tubular Unit). Later after 6 months I was promoted to be Technology team leader in STU. Currently I am in charge of manufacturing support, Lean Six Sigma activities and facility management

How do you see your career progression in Schlumberger?Lean Six Sigma will be a critical part in my career. I will keep focusing on it. The goal of my career is to develop leading manufacturing in SLB on specific areas. Also, I have strong interest in engineering to develop leading, competitive and high-Tech tools for OFS (Oilfield Services) operations.
