The Carina Cricket ClubThe Carina Cricket ClubThe Carina Cricket Club are currently experiencing a period of sustained growth due to the ever increasing popularity

of cricket in Brisbane particularly as the Australian test team will battle for the ashes this summer.

Background of the Carina Cricket Club

The Carina Cricket Club is the junior club within the Mater Hill Cricket Club. Mater Hill was formed in 1975 and as the club grew it then merged with the Eagles Cricket Club. The Carina Cricket Club has continued to grow and now has over 200 children playing cricket in the local cricket competitions and development games.

Player Development and Enjoyment The Carina Cricket Club provides a fun and competitive environment for boys and girls to enjoy the great team sport of

cricket. Our club introduces the sport to children from the age of 5 in our Milo In2Cricket and T20 Blast program and offers club cricket from U9’s through U12’s in the EDJCA (Eastern Districts Junior Cricket Association) competition and U13’s upwards in the BEARS (Bayside East and Redlands Cricket Association) competition. We are a participation based club that aims to engender mateship, responsibility, community spirit and physical health within our players and the wider community. We provide a safe and caring environment where individual players can maximize and develop individual talents while enjoying the benefits of a working in a team environment.

This strategic plan, developed by the Carina Cricket Committee, sets out the goals along with the necessary strategies to achieve the Carina Cricket Club vision which we are currently in the last year of that 3 year plan.

But it needs updating

Strategic Statement

Page 4: The Carina Cricket Club Coaches and Managers Information Session 2014/15

General Team ManagementGeneral Team Management

– Players are there to learn and have fun but must be respectful of other players, coaches and managers.

– Get Parents involved, give them jobs to do like assisting at training, helping get players ready on the sideline.

– Communication is the key– Here is a suggested resource at

Coaches Cricket Australia– And for those that have seen it before I can’t miss

this which is a highly recommended suggestions of what not to do is this

Use of Club FacilitiesUse of Club Facilities

• Training facilities for the Carina Cricket Club• Access to cricket nets at Clem Jones Centre and Whites Hills• Training equipment in the shed near the Clem Jones Centre nets• Hockey fields and athletics track, check the training schedule as

there are tight restrictions on these fields use.

• Kit bags• Always lay out the kits before the game and check it when

packing it up, inevitably too many people going into the kit bag means things get lost. Assign this job to a parent on game day and at training.

• Club House– Committee meetings and other events.

Game Day ChecklistGame Day Checklist

• The Game Day checklist is a requirement for insurance purposes• JLT provide the cover• This is real and you shouldn’t think it won’t happen to you!!

Page 7: The Carina Cricket Club Coaches and Managers Information Session 2014/15

Coaches and TrainingCoaches and Training

• The best thing that you can do at training is to make it fun• Make activities competitive – how many catches in a row, team v

team• Don't let the players have downtime, try and keep them all occupied

all of the time• Plan your sessions• Don’t over complicate drills and sessions• If they don’t get it at first don’t persist and insist as they will in their

own time• Resources are available on the Carina Cricket Club website and

other sites – www.carinacricket.com.au• Training session guidelines• Have a Go and Have a Game session outlines• EDJCA Junior Coaching guide and online resources• Know the rules

Game DayGame Day

• Setup– Game day checklist as described previously– Get there well before the start of the game– Home team sets up the field, the rules explain how to do this, field markers, length of

the pitch– Wet Weather – coaches/managers on both sides need to make a call in the absence of

any official cancellation

• Scoring– Understand the rules– Have a list from the coach of the batters and bowlers names– Don’t forget to ring in results– Have a good cup of coffee handy or someone that can get it for you!

• Umpiring– Understand the rules– Get the signals right for the scorers

Page 9: The Carina Cricket Club Coaches and Managers Information Session 2014/15

Rule changesRule changes

• EDJCA– Current rule provision to allow children to move forward up to 1m to be given greater emphasis.– Statements to be added to current rules emphasing the focus on positive play, regardless to game result and directing

coaches to avoid negative play. – U9’s: Umpires to place tees either side of pitch. Balls that land outside tees are declared dead & umpire calls to

batsman “Tee Ball is live and count down from 3”. • If ball is wide on right of pitch, batsman much hit ball off tee on right. • Batsman can be dismissed from a ball hit off the tee. • The original wide ball is not scored as a wide, it is effectively dead. Any runs (or wickets) from the tee shot are scored. • Balls off tee are to be hit forward, batsman is not allowed to turn around and hit behind the wicket. Batsmen to be encouraged to play

straight.

– u10’s: Batsmen swap ends after 2 wides or unplayable balls. – U11 & u12 rules for the game to end once a result is achieved, the game ends (as per ‘real’ cricket) which is

contradictory with EDJCA’s stated policy of maximising participation for all players. Change the rules so that the full allocation of overs is played each day regardless of the result.

– Umpires on field may provide ‘guidance’ to all players at the break between overs. • Umpires may not ‘captain’ the team or set fields, Addenda to rule to be added to clarify this distinction.

• BEARS– Spinners to allowed to bowl 10 overs straight
