5 THURSDAYS IN LENT –
ST. TERESA OF AVILA:
To mark the forthcoming 5th
centenary of the birth of St Teresa
of Avila, this year’s Lenten
reflections will focus on the
wisdom of St. Teresa, arguably
the greatest of the Church’s
spiritual teachers, and on how to
apply this wisdom in a secular
society. The talks will be given
by Fr. Greg Homeming OCD in
the Corpus Christi Parish Hall,
263 Mona Vale Rd.,
St. Ives, from 7.30 –
9.00pm. on
Thursdays 13, 20 &
27 March and 3 &
10 April.
From St. Augustine:
Are there any persons, Lord, who do not at times let themselves go beyond
the strict limits of necessity? I am not one of
them, for I am a sinner
Confessions 10, 31
“The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.”(Mt 13:44)
This weekend we welcome Fr Abel van der Veer back to the parish on the occasion of his 50th Anniversary of
Ordination to the Priesthood. The gospel reading chosen for the day by Fr Abel reflects his own understanding of the nature of that calling and what it has meant in his life.
It might well be said that many of the commitments we take on in life bring with them both unexpected joys as well as unanticipated challenges. There are lessons to be learnt from our experiences of the past along the way and the surprises of what lies around the corner up ahead. As Fr Abel’s chosen Gospel again reminds us,
“Therefore every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.” (Mt 13: 52)
The celebration of a half-century of service in the Lord’s vineyard is a significant moment. In the same way celebrations of 50 years of marriage are a time for thanksgiving for the many blessings received as well as moments of struggle. May Fr Abel continue to be rewarded in his ministry as a disciple of the Kingdom. Ad multos annos!
From Fr. Brian

As many of you will be aware new Working with Children regulations in NSW have commenced.
Every adult working or volunteering in a position identified as working with children is required to
obtain a Working with Children clearance letter. You only need to obtain one clearance letter and
it is supplied in all instances where you are involved in paid or volunteer work involving children.
To enable us to comply with the legislation we will need clearance letters from all adults identified
as working with children. If you have been asked by us or you are a volunteer with the youth
group, music ministry, children’s liturgy or a senior server and have not supplied your clearance letter on to us we
need a copy of the letter as soon as possible. If you require any further information please contact the office.
If you would like to receive your end of year receipt electronically and don’t currently receive In Touch via email, we
don’t have your email address. If this is the case please contact the office with your email address.
LOST PROPERTY
We have several pairs of reading glasses, a car and house key, and other items in our lost property box at the parish office. If you
have mislaid an item, please come and check—we may be able to help.
Do you follow the Sea Eagles? Can you help Vinnies with football parking?
Our St Vincent de Paul Society manages car parking in St Augustines during matches at Brookvale Oval. We are seeking several
people, perhaps from our Parish youth (although ideally over 18), to help in parking cars or collecting fees before
the games. Parking is usually completed before the main game starts. Parking duties will be shared and there is
no commitment to every game. If interested, leave name at Parish Office or call Tim 9400 6661.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK
‘Do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.’
Matthew 5:42
At school: Can I gladly lend something to a classmate?
At work or study: What is so important that I couldn’t
lend it to someone in need?
In my family life Do our neighbours know we can be
relied on for help?

PLAYGROUP/KIDSTIME is a
fantastic way for mothers, fathers, grandparents, carers and children (aged 0-5 years) to interact and get to know others in your community and for your child to meet other children who will eventually attend the local primary schools. Kidstime meets weekly during school term on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in the Parish Centre, 2 King Street, Manly Vale from 9.30am to 11.30am.
Everyone is most welcome to come along.
