Believing in Excellence
Starting school is an exciting time in a child’s life. At Cavendish All-Through School we believe in
excellence. We believe that each individual child is unique and is entitled to the very best education
which encourages a love of learning in all children.
We want our students to make outstanding progress in a happy, safe and stimulating learning
environment which provides them with opportunities to develop into confident, caring and well-
rounded citizens.
Through students, parents and teachers working collaboratively as part of our learning community,
each child will be encouraged and supported in being aspirational and in achieving their full potential.
Our rich and vibrant learning environment is an ideal place for your child as they embark on their
education. We hope you will choose Cavendish All-Through School for your child and look forward
to welcoming them next September.

Curriculum
In Reception children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
There are four guiding principles which shape practice in all Early Years settings and these are:
Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-
assured.
Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.
Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their
individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents/carers, and
Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates.
The framework covers the education and care of all
children in Early Years’ provision, including children with
special educational needs and disabilities.

Praise and Rewards
We use praise to support and encourage each child
as they progress in their learning. We try to ensure
that the children understand behaviour for learning
and have the ability to recognise achievements and
progress. For this to happen we nurture and help
develop each child's self-worth so that they feel
proud, positive and valued.
We celebrate the achievements of the children as a
school community, so when a child has shown very
good learning behaviour or very good progress
they will share it with another class teacher or
teaching assistant in their year group.
Each week three children will be chosen to
celebrate their work. These children can choose
any work that they feel proud of. They will take
this to the celebration assembly and share why
they have chosen their work and what they had to
do to be successful.
A supportive and caring environment
As an all-through school it is important that all of our children feel part of the Cavendish community so there
will be organised times when your child will be with the older students. Your child will have a Year 8 or Year 9 buddy who will help them settle into the school. There will also be occasions when older students will be
involved in activities with the children, for example they may listen to them reading. All activities undertaken with
older students will be thoroughly risk assessed and monitored.
Learning Environment
The new Primary building will offer our Reception, Key Stage One and Key Stage Two students a modern, pur-
pose built environment designed to meet their learning needs.
The design of the classrooms will allow for the free flow of children as they learn through play and all the
children will have the use of all our specialist facilities in Cavendish School, such as the dance studio, science
laboratories, technology rooms, reading lounge, fields, horticulture site and the Little Theatre.
