Who were the Celts. The Celts were a group of people that occupied

lands stretching from the Britain Isles to Gallatia .(Turkey)

From around 750Bc to 12Bc , the Celts were the most powerful people in Central and Northern Europe.

There were many tribes of Celts, speaking a vaguely common language.

The word Celt comes from the Greek word Keltio meaning barbarians.

Celtic Nations The following are the best know Nations: Alba, which is now Scotland Breizh, which is now Brittany Cymru, which is now Wales Eire, which is Ireland in old Irish Gaelic Galatia, which is now in Spain and France Kernow, which is Cornwall Mannin, is the Isle of Man

Celtic Houses – Round Houses The Celtic tribes lived in scattered houses. They lived in round houses with thatched roofs of straw. The walls of the houses were made with some material. The houses had no window anywhere around the house. The Celts would make a fire for heating and cooking so it

could get really smoky

in there.

Celtic Hill Forts A hill fort is a group of houses build on top of a hill. Hill forts were surrounded by at least 1 bank or ditch. Some hill forts were massive and covered an enormous area

of over 300 acres. Hill forts were constructed using soil, stone and wood

Celtic Religion The Celts believed in many gods and goddesses like=

Sucellos, the sky god, with a hammer that caused lightning

Nodens, who made clouds and rain. Many gods had no names, but lived in the woods and other

humans head The Celts believed that the human soul had an afterlife, so

when a person died they were buried with many things they would need for afterlife.

Celtic Clothes The Celts loved bright dazzling colors . Clothes were made out of wool and dyed with natural

vegetable dye. Most Celts would have worn cloaks

Celtic Warriors and Weapons Many Celts went into battle unprotected by helmets or armor. Celtic warriors holed long oval shaped shields, spears,

daggers and long swords made out of iron. Celtic shields were made of oak. The Celtic warriors deadliest weapon was the long sword,

which he would always whirls round his head.
