The Center
is dedicated to the
living legacy of
The LubavitcherRebbe,
Rabbi MenachemMendel Schneerson
Shalom
Welcome to The Center for Jewish Studies. Our goal here at
Friends of Lubavitch of Bergen County is to provide the most
comprehensive, interesting and educational adult Jewish
studies program that one can find. We offer courses, which will be
a finite number of classes on a certain topic in Judaism; studygroups which are ongoing weekly classes that are continuous; and
of course our famous lectures where we have scholars, authors and
other such Jewish luminaries for an evening of inspiration.
Unless otherwise noted, every course, class and lecture is for men
and women of all ages and all backgrounds. The courses and classes
are geared to both those who have no formal Jewish education and
those who have an extensive background - everyone will find each
course and class fascinating and worthwhile.
We will also be continuing our Chabad Women’s Circle, a hands-on
evening with a fascinating lecture, wonderful desserts and much
more. This year we have added a Mommy and Me to our many
programs as well, please see page 20 for details.
Feel free to drop in on and sample any course to see if it’s for you,
with our “complimentary evening pass.”
If you have any questions (on any of the classes or courses) please
feel free to call me at 201-907-0686 or e-mail me at
[email protected] at anytime. I am looking forward sharing
with you an enjoyable adult education experience that will last a
lifetime.
Sincerely,
Rabbi Ephraim Simon

The Holocaust Speaks to Our Generation
Explore the ways in which the Holocaust continues
to affect our generation and colors what it means
to live as a Jew today.
The Holocaust forces us to grapple with the
existence of evil and suffering. It challenges us to
find faith and optimism in the face of devastation
and despair. And it awes us as we encounter heroes
of the spirit who fought for truth and decency in
the darkest of times.

KabbalahExploring life’s issues throughthe lens of Jewish Mysticism
Shimonah Tzukernik is a writer, artist and acclaimed lecturer.
Shimonah has received international acclaim for her Inner Vision
Seminar that combines art with Kabbalistic insights to harness
ones soul powers and transform daily life. She has also
spearheaded the series Seven Habits of Jewish Effectiveness.
Shimonah imbues her philosophical approach with personal
experience in a style that is often emotional and provocative. She
is especially adept at distilling abstract Chassidic ideas into
application for daily life. Her lectures and workshops are
explorative, mystical, yet with a true touch of down to earth
practicality. Shimonah resides in Brooklyn, New York with her
husband and four children.

Biblical storiesExplaining the mystical and psychologicaldimensions behind enigmatic Biblical episodes
Back by Popular Demand in honor of the Rosh Hashana of Chassidus.
Charged with the grave crime of treason, the founder of
Chabad-Lubavitch chasidim was arrested and
imprisoned by the Czarist regime in the year 1798.
Rabbi Schneur Zalman’s arrest imperiled not only his
own life but also the future of Chasidism. Ultimately he
was cleared of the charges and released, his teachings
vindicated. The day of his liberation, the 19th of Kislev,
has since become recognized as a historic milestone in
the evelopment of the Chasidic movement.
