    1- The Family

THE WIND BLEW SO HARD, FORCING THE LARGE tree branches to

tremble and bend obediently to its great force. Rain droplets fell heavily from

thick grey clouds that looked like they had the capacity to rain for long

continuous hours. The storm was so furious, threatening; it made the sky look

so ominous. It thundered and sparkled with lightning. The newborn child cried,

his weak trembling voice echoed in this world for the first time, joining life with

its joys and sorrows, its unstoppable challenges, its mysteries and secrets. Soinnocent, waiting for his mother's arms and scent, wanting nothing more than

her warmth and her milk, unaware of what he was, not knowing the secrets

he'd bare, the secrets waiting to be discovered, the people he'd meet, and the

    people he'd lose.

Robert snapped off his seat, and hurried toward the doctor, his face so

anxious and worried and at the same time, thrilled. His eyes were wide with

anticipation waiting for his brother the doctor to talk.

"Congratulations Robert, you got a beautiful son and your wife is perfectly

    fine"

Robert's worries eased, he retreated slowly exhaling deeply, his hear tilting to

the sky "Oh thank god thank you, thank you" he held his brothers arms and

squeezed it thankfully, then hugged him unable to contain his happiness,

    "Can I see her now?".

That was Robert's first child. Nick. Three years later his wife Barbra gave birth

to a wonderful girl they called Katy. Those two children were part of an

unusually large family that lived together in the same house, and married from

    each other as well.

They were a family of great wealth, their huge house was built with four floors,

surrounded with a wide garden from three angles and overlooking the sea

from the backside of it. Thus, the house had two main entrances, one at the

front, opening to the main road that crossed the field to the large gate, and the

    other facing their private beach.

The family members were all committed to live in that house; none of them

ever left it, and that was due to the secret of the family. The members of the

family were only admitted knowledge of the secret when they reached a

certain age, and earned the elders trust.

Although Katy and Nick were three years apart, they were often mistaken of

being twins, due to their great resemblance to each other, in height and

features, and the fact that they were always together, in school or out of it.

They almost did everything together, including sneaking out in the middle of

the night to play on the sandy beach Which was becoming a more frequent

    habit lately.

Katy was a tall child with a slim body. She had brown curly hair and dark

green eyes with thin soft rosy lips. She was wearing her old -styled white

nightgown and walking bare feet on the cold sand of the beach, looking back

at her big brother and urging him to move faster.

"Come on Nick, you are so slow" she complained.

    "Ok, ok I'm coming".

Nick was a slim boy, so similar to his little sister; the only difference between

them was his dark blond hair.

Kate started running toward the sea cheerfully, swinging her hands over her

shoulders and giggling as the warm breeze touched her face and played with

    her hair.

She stopped as the cold water touched her toes, and jumped turning to her

    brother behind her.

"I'm going to live in the sea someday".

Nick dropped his body on the sand, and stretched his hand over his head,

then leaned back till his head dropped on the white sand. "Why?" he asked.

"I could swim and swim as much as I want, there is no end for it and I get to

see a lot of fish swimming with me all the time" she exclaimed her face

    animated.

"I want to fly", he breathed, "High up in the sky, with all the birds flying around

    me".

Katy giggled and came to stand over his head looking down at him. She

opened her mouth to say something, but a loud thud coming f rom somewhere

nearby startled her into silence. She jumped in her place, then clutched to

Nick's back, hiding behind his brotherly protective posture as he stood up.

They thought it was one of the grownups, and were ready to run away on the

    sight of any of them.

However, no one showed up, and Katy leaned to whisper in her brother's ear,

"Do you think it's a thief?"

"Let's go back, what if it's one of the grownups; grandpa will punish us if we

    were caught?"

"No, why would anyone be in the garage in the middle of the night it's a

    burglar".

"Then let's go back to the house, so that he won't hurt us"

"No, you go back. I will find out who it is".

"You'll get yourself in trouble", he threatened.

She turned stubbornly toward the sea, and hit her foot to the ground as if she

was nailing it in the sand. Nick sighed, knowing exactly how stubborn his

sister was, but he knew she'd have to follow him if he went back; she always

did; surely she liked acting brave, but she was afraid of being alone . He

turned his back to her, and ran toward the house exclaiming in a teasing way,

    "I'm going to leave you"

Katy's eyes flickered toward him, but when she saw him glancing back at her

wickedly, she looked back at the sea, pressing her foot to the ground again .

She tried to maintain her place, not wanting him to win this time as he always

did, but she was worried; she started stealing a few hopeful glances toward

him every now and then. She stood very still as long as she could bear, until

she heard the door shut behind him. The interesting beach turn ed to look so

dark and creepy without the presence of her brother. She turned to look at his

trails in disbelief and anger. Then kicked the ground and groanedcomplainingly, knowing he won, but reluctant to follow him, until another thud

came from the garage and forced her to run after him, flinching at the

    unwelcomed fear.

Something from far away distracted her, a dim light that got gradually brighter

and brighter, she did not see it, but rather felt it, in a strange way . She looked

    4/21

toward it, and a soft gasp escaped her small lips, amazement seizing her in

    her place.

The light was coming from the middle of the sea, b right white, with a hint of

light blue in the edges. It reflected on her eyes and overwhelmed her senses

with its magical beauty. Her legs started moving from its own toward that light,

as if they were pulled by the effect of a giant magnet. She walked till her feet

touched the cold water, and a cold shiver startled her from the dreamy haze

they light but her through. She was distracted, wondering whether she should

go back and tell her brother.

The light started to flame, capturing her attention again, a wave of light spread

from it through the water. The sea sparkled and the water somehow became

    the color of glowing blue.

She stepped forward, the warm breeze blowing her chocolate-brown hair

backwards. She hesitated, taking a step forward and another one back.

Suddenly out of nowhere a wooden bridge leaped out from the water,

reaching all the way to that flaming light, the beautiful mesmerizing fire caught

her eyes back to it. She never took another glance at the bridge, she just

marched forward stepping over the bridge, and walking almost floating

    toward the light.

Nick stood behind the door, waiting for his sister to come begging him to let

her in, a wicked smile arched the corner of his lips; he pushed his little body

against the door, and waited for her to push against the door, but longmoments passed and she was really late. He thought she might've decided to

let him come looking for her, so he waited some more.

He opened the door and stuck his head out looking for her, but she wasn't

where he'd expected to see her, in fact she wasn't anywhere in sight. He

thought she'd maybe tried to find another way in without having to beg him, or

if she'd gone to see the source of the noise in the garage, he gasped and ran

toward it, terrified at the thought of her being captured by a thief.

He was still suspicious from the thud they'd heard before, but he had to find

his little sister anyway; he swallowed and pushed the door gently, somethingblack and small jumped in his direction, with a sharp voice that seemed

incredibly louder in the quiet night, he shouted and retreated jumping on one

foot, then fell to the ground. But it turned out to be a frightened cat that was

making that noise; she must have been trapped in the crowded garage . "Oh,

it's a cat" he sighed in relief, then straightened up , and cupped his palm

around his mouth to make his call louder "Katy, are you there ?"

There was no answer, he called again, and then stood reluctant to go in

himself, but eventually he did. There weren't enough windows to admit a lot of

moonlight inside, and the light switch was intentionally put so high for him to

reach on the wall. His uncles didn't want any of the children to go in there, so

they put the light switch beyond their reach, knowing that the garage looked

so dark and creepy without light.

There were large tarps covering two boats, and four jet -skies, but there was

    no sight of Katy.

He started searching for her carefully, aware not to let her surprise him, but he

found nothing, not anywhere around the big objects, and she couldn't have

possibly hid underneath the tarps, there were securely closed around the

boats and jet-skies. He knew that very well, since it was only covered when

he and other boys hid there, along with Katy of course.

"Katy, you better come out, or else I'm going to tell mom about you".

Nick opened his parents room's door violently, the thud the knob made after

hitting the wall made his mother wince, he went to stand beside her and

started shaking her forearm, "Mom, mom wake up, hurry".

She frowned by the disturbance, her eyes reluctantl y half opened. "What's

wrong Nick?" there was a lazy complaint in her question.

He said urgently trying to well her out from her drowsiness "Katy's lost, I can't

    find her anywhere"

She frowned again, but with concern this time, and shifted her weight ove r her

elbow asking more. Her voice was clearer now "Why isn't she in bed?"

"We-" he hesitated for a while "We, went out, and heard a voice in the garage,

I looked for her but I couldn't find her I swear".

Barbra didn't take it so seriously until she looke d for Katy herself and found

her nowhere. She searched everywhere, but didn't find a trace, she asked

Nick again about what happened exactly, and he told her the whole truth now,

but that didn't do them much. Barbra woke her husband when she felt she

was panicking and saw the scared look on her son's face. Soon after that

everyone in the house was awake, except for the children, they were all

searching in every corner of the house, trying to find the little girl .

Barbra knelt in front of Nick desperately and squeezed his shoulders gently ,

"Nick honey, listen I need you to tell me exactly where'd you left your

    sister?"

    6/21

Nick was already holding his tears back, and his mother s words made him

feel more and more responsible of what'd happened to Katy, he started

weeping. "She wanted to see what was the sound that came from the

garageI told her we should go back and she stood right here , when I didn't

find her, I looked in the garage but I didn't find anything ".

    "What was in the garage?"

"A cat, it was just a frightened cat" his voice broke into more tears "I'm sorry I

shouldn't have left her, it's my fault"

"No, no honey it's not your fault" she patted his shoulder, and then stood up,

too worried and distracted to comfort him properly. "Where are you Katy?" she

    whispered under her breath.

Robert came to them, and as Barbra heard his footsteps she turned back and

looked at him hopefully, her eyes glittering with unshed tears. He held her

shoulders and squeezed it gently, his head shook negatively "We'reconsidering the possibility she wanted to swim " he broke off when Barbra

gasped, the color left Barbra's face leaving her as pale as a corps . "The sea!"

she covered her mouth and nose with both hands, and almost fainted, but

Robert held her arms tightly and encouraged, "She's going to be fine we will

find her ok, I'm going out with the elders to look for her there, the others are

still searching the house, there aren't many water currents to drag her so far,

we are going to find her eventually, we'll search ev ery inch of the sea no

matter how long it took now relax and breathe honey, she needs to find you

strong if she wasn't, ok be strong for her sake".

Rain droplets fell on Barbra's face, droplets that Robert thought to be tears, he

pressed a soothing kiss on her forehead, and just then felt the other droplets

descending from the sky, in a few seconds the rain accelerated quickly, they

were completely wet, and minutes later after Robert left, the rain turned into a

storm, and the search was getting harder and harder , it wasn't easy to swim in

violent storms, not even on them, even though they were better than other

    people.

Nick pressed his cheek to his mother's side and moaned "They're taking so

    long, what if she drowned?"

His mother's palm gently rubbed his hair and the other side of his head, and

she spoke reassuringly "Don't worry sweetie, we never drown"

    "How is that?"

"You'll know someday, when you're older".

  • 8/7/2019 The century girl ( first two chanpters )

    7/21

The search continued till sunrise, by then, the storm was gone, and the sky

was finally clear. And while Barbra was lost in her sorrow and wariness, a

small figure appeared in the distance, it was Thomas Barbra's brother he

came out of the water carrying a small figure in his arms. Barbra gasped and

ran toward him, her arms opened to catch her daughter, "Oh god" she

snatched the small child from Thomas's offering arms, and held her tightagainst her chest, "Katy, oh Katy, I was scared to death thank you Thomas"

    she looked at him thankfully.

    "You're welcome"

Three days passed till Katy finally woke up from her unconsciousness, she

spent a day after that in the hospital to make sure she was fine, and then she

    got back home.

She wasn't able to talk about what had happened to her, and everyone

assumed she it was an unsuccessful attempt of swimming across the sea. No

one asked her anymore, not wanting to remind her of the horrible experience

    she must've been through.

She wasn't the same anymore, even though none of them knew that , and for

a long time, she would always turn in shock and freeze in her place whenever

she saw the sea. They didn't want to put any pressure on her, and so they'd

just let it go and didn't mention it again.

They were all so careful, looking after her in the beginning, but after a while

they all forgot about it, even her mom and dad, but only she wasn't able to

forget what'd happened that night. She wouldn't ever be able to forget it in her

    entire life.

    2-ADangerous Proposal

"WITNESSES SAY'S THAT THOSE MONSTERS THAT made the attack

behaved with unmistakable intelligence, and they were capable of speech

the descriptions says that they looked like huge gorillas standing as straightas human throughout this horrible and outrageo us event more than twenty

people were killed other than the large numbers of wounded ones. "

"Monsters? What great news to start the day with ", Nick commented

sardonically, his lips twisting with mockery. "Are you watching this grandpa?"

He asked turning to look at his old grandfather who sat on his wheelchair and

scowled tensely at the screen. Nick raised an eye brow wondering why his

logical annoyingly typical grandfather would consider such nonsense with

such serious expressions, he was about to ask again but his grandfather

cursed something under his breath and wheeled himself out of the room.

It was really weird to see his grandfather's reaction to the news, Nick thought

to himself, but he didn't give much attention to the subject. He shrugged and

    turned off the T.V.

Little things mattered to him these days, nothing was of much value.

He went to his room, the place he spent most of his time whenever he came

home. It was a normal boring day, and there was nothing to look up to. He

finished college a year ago, but didn't want to work on anything for a while . He

actually didn't need a job, since he wasn't going to leave his family's house

like othernormalpeople did. And his grandfather refused to let him know thebig secret that the family kept, even though all the cousins in his age already

know about it. 'Until you've decided to get yourself together and get married or

do something with your life'where his grandfather's words, and he most

certainly wouldn't marry any one of his cousins for no good reason. Besides

marriage was the farthest thing on his mind right now. So he thought he might

as well just take a break and do whatever he wanted to do.

  • 8/7/2019 The century girl ( first two chanpters )

    9/21

He didn't really care about what his grandfather thought of him, the elders had

betrayed him a long time ago, he and his parents only, his parents preferred

to ignore that fact. He, on the other hand, wasn't about to forgive them for that

    yet.

It's been seven years now, but the bitterness in his heart was still fresh, like it

    happened only yesterday.

Even though he still cared and loved his family, he couldn't shove away the

feelings of betrayal. How could they give up on his sister that way? It wasn't

fair. And he hated himself for not being able to do anything about it.

He felt rebellious against their decision, but there was nothing he could do

otherwise, the only thing he was able to punish them with, was to act as

reckless and careless as he could. That was a decision he took in his teen's

years, but throughout the time he started feeling guilty for al l their efforts to

get him to understand, what he still doesn't understands. They wanted to

convince him that there is nothing to do about it, without telling him the

reasons that made them come to that conclusion. How could they ask from

him to understand when they didn't even bother to explain? He wasn't stupid

enough to miss their whispered conversations, and the secret calls they

made. He even sensed his parents longing to tell him something a lot of

times. After a long time that gave no success to his way of protest, his

carelessness started turning into a habit, he didn't like that, didn't like that at

all, but he was still angry with them, he was an adult now and deserve trust.

A lot of those unpleasant thoughts passed through his mind while he lied o n

his bed, looking out to the cloudy sky from his wide window of his room. Hismemory went back to the day he went to make sure his lazy sister was up to

school and never found her, she'd just disappeared from her bed with no trail,

no sign. Her bed was left as if she was sleeping on it and everything was in its

    usual place.

    The laptop on his desk turned on , suddenly distracting him from his thoughts;

he blinked in surprise, rising to a sitting position he frowned in confusion. He

was pretty sure he didn't use his laptop this day, and even if he did, why

would the screen turned on by itself.

The screen turned black, but not as black as it should be when it was shutdown. He realized a second later it was a video track playing. A figure of a

man sitting in front of a dim light appeared, the light shaped the man's round

hairless head, and his obvious round fat body, sitting on a leather cha ir, but

the light didn't capture much of his features.

  • 8/7/2019 The century girl ( first two chanpters )

    10/21

A weird voice came out, it was an irrupted voice. Clearly the man on the

screen was the one talking, but for some reason Nick couldn't guess , the man

preferred to change his voice, turning it to a robotic sound.

"Hello Nick, I'm hoping you're fine"

Nick snapped from his bed and reached to the chair in front of the de sk, to sitcloser to the computer.

"I guess you must be, for there is nothing of big importance or anything useful

at all that you've been doing lately but I must agree, indulging oneself on

the family's fortune could be a very tempting idea".

What was that man saying; it was clear he knew a lot about him. But his

mocking words provoked Nick a lot and upset him; it was the echoes of the

thoughts everyone must be thinking when they look at him.

"Close the door Nick, I wouldn't want from your grandfather to hear thisconversation"

Nick's eyes brows arched, he looked at the door, wondering if he should, or

should not obey. The man said he wouldn't want Nick's grandfather to hear

the conversation, and Nick's grandfather didn't want to tell Nick about the

secret of the family, so maybe the man knew something about it, even though

    his approach was highly suspicious.

Finally Nick decided to get up and lock the door.

"I'd like to meet you" the man surprised Nick with his announcement

"there's a car waiting for you outside the gate it would be nice of you to

accompany my friends there, and they'll take you to where I am thank you

    for listening".

The screen shut closed after that, as if that man had turned it off from

    wherever he was.

Nick leaned back, and raised his brows. What kind of a sick joke was that?

"Oh, I almost forgot" the man's voice added suddenly with the screen

turning on again "I know you'd be thinking this is some kind of a joke but it

is not, this has something to do with your sister"

Nick's eyes widened in surprise, his heart contracted, and he listened more

carefully now "If you're interested to know, the car is waiting for you"

The computer shut down as soon as the man finished talking, and Nick stood

frozen in his place so confused, so surprised. Did that man really offered

information about his sister? He moved quickly to the window and looked

  • 8/7/2019 The century girl ( first two chanpters )

    11/21

through it to the gate. There was a car waiting there. What did that mean? He

couldn't understand. His curiosity started tempting him to go; there was no

way he was losing this chance that came straight toward him.

The car was at a far distance, in addition that it was tinted, so he couldn't see

    who was inside it.

Nick hesitated, trying to decide whether this was a wise step or not. But did

that really matter? Could he lose this precious chance to know the truth?

An idea passed his mind and stopped him right in front of the gate's entrance,

what was happening to him now? What if this was the same thing that

happened to Katy? What if this was the person who kidnapped her? He shook

the idea out of his mind and went to the car.

He opened the door and jerked in without looking inside, taking a deep breath,

before he turned to look who was sitting beside him. There was a woman red-

haired and so thin her bones threatened to burst out from her skin, and yetshe looked so stiff and tough, a person would like to avoid any arguments with

her. She was wearing a black leather suit and sitting like a statue, with only

the movement of her chest up and down exposing her humanity. She didn't

bother looking at him, not even when he entered. Nick started getting nervous

and his jaw tightened in tension.

"Who are you?" he finally asked the driver as the car started to move.

No one answered him for a while, he starte d asking again but the man

interrupted him "You'll know when we get there".

The car drove a long way, so far from home; it passed to weird streets he

never saw before. The kind of rusty neighborhoods Nick thought only existed

in gothic movies, where even the morning sky seemed grey.

The car stopped in front of an old house, it was big, but squeezed by other old

buildings from both sides. The whole neighborhood looked haunted.

The driver and the woman led the way inside that house, and into a classic

old study, which was for his surprise clean and well furnished.

In the far end of the large room was the man that appeared in the video, he

was sitting in the same leather chair and behind him was a large window that

overlooked the other side of the street. The small bulbs over his head sent a

dim light on his bold head. His features weren't so clear too, but he could see

it more clearly than in the video.

The driver and the women closed the door behind them, leaving Nick in there,

standing in the middle of the room, looking at the man suspiciously.

  • 8/7/2019 The century girl ( first two chanpters )

    12/21

"Welcome" The man said calmly, and Nick heard his real voice for the first

time. It was an old man's voice, low and gruff. A hint of authority and evilness

mixed with his voice; it made Nick shiver, he felt suddenly cold and the small

hair on the back of his neck stood up.

"Who are you?" Nick choked out, barely holding his voice from trembling.

The old man ignored his question . "Please take a seat I believe you've

came here seeking information about your lost sister" . It was a statement that

helped Nick to recover from his first shock the shock of the scene he walked

in remembering the reason he was here in the first place.

"What do you know about my sister?"

The man didn't answer again; he kept contemplating Nick's face and emotions

    without a word, analyzing him.

Nick started to get angry and nervous, he went to stand right in front of thedesk, and laid both of the hands roughly on the edges leaning slightly forward

"I am asking you a question, what is it that you know about my sister ?" his

move was impulsive, but he was sick of people considering whether he was

worthy of trust or not, he was her brother, and he had the right to know,

whether or not his actions were to be trusted.

"Do you want to find her?" the question took Nick off guard; it took him a while

to answer; the man said it with such ease, as if it was the easiest thing to do .

"Do you know where she is?"

    "Of course I do"

That statement froze Nick in his place; he stared in the man's face silently for

a long moment, waiting for the man to speak up.

"You have really no idea of what's been happening there's a huge dilemma

between the three societies because of your sister" .

"What? ... What are you talking about? What three societies?"

"I see your family hasn't informed you yet about anything, have they? ...

They're so good at keeping secrets, and apparently they don't even trust theirown kin"

    "I don't understand what are you talking about?" Nick spoke with an effort;

the mention of his family's mistrust of him was hurtful.

"Let me make a proposal for you young man" The man stood up and came to

stand behind Nick, taking each step carefully as if he was afraid that a

misguided step might shatter the ground underneath his leg .

"How about you work for me, I'll give you a secret mission to accomplish if

you accept you'll get the chance to meet your sister, and you'd get to know

    the truth behind everything"

"What kind of a mission?" Nick said at length.

"I told you it's a secret mission I can't speak of it unless you accept"

"How do you expect from me to accept a mission I know nothing about"

"I thought you really cared about your sister doesn't saving her qualify as

    reason enough to do anything"

The man laid his hands on Nick's shoulders and waited while Nick regarded

the matter carefully in his mind. "I accept" he finally uttered.

A wicked smile covered the man's face, and he spoke quickly "good now

    follow me".

The man went to a large book-shelf, and moved one of the books out of its

place, to set it in the lower shelve. A door opened in the middle of the book

shelf. It was like old movies when a mysterious man had a secret door in his

library, and Nick started wondering what could possibly be waiting for him on

the other side. He followed the man through the door, and found nothing but a

large table surrounded by chairs, lit by faint lights. They sat each on one side

of the table. And the man started immediately "There are th ree main societies

of powers, the first one is the one that I and my men belong to, it's called

'Volcagmen' the other one is called 'Montaves' the last one is

anonymous. They're the most dangerous ones and they're holding yoursister as a prisoner"

The man stopped talking and looked at Nick's face as he slowly absorbed the

information, he did not understand what the man meant with the term

'societies of powers', the names seemed funny to his ears, and the way the

man pronounced each litter in them was weird, but all that could wait. Why

was there a dilemma because of his sister?

"Why?" came out his perplexed question, as a reflect to his thoughts.

"Didn't you notice that it is rare for two families to live together in one large

    house?"

Nick frowned at the change of subject, wondering what did that has to do with

anything, and waiting for the man to continue anxiously this is the secret that

his grandfather didn't yet trust him to acknowledge .

"Your family belongs to one of those three societies I told yo u about what's

special about these societies is that their members use powers, different great

powers, each individual use a specific kind, and only one kind "

"What do you mean by powers?"

"I mean special abilities, reading minds, radiating, shooting fir e, movingobjects"

"This can't be true" Nick felt an urge of sarcasm rising in his chest, but the

situation was too intense for that.

"Oh it is true, very true" the man's relaxed form shifted on his chair, he raised

a hand over the table, and suddenly wi th a sheer voice, sharp needles

bumped over the surface of the table, and made a path and deadly sharp

    thrones towards Nick side.

The abruptness of the move made Nick jump in his place, retreat to the wall, gasping with a little scared grunt.

The needles suddenly disappeared and the man spoke again, as if nothing

happened "It has been well known that in every century there would be a girl

that has the ability of using all kinds of powers they call that girl the ' century

    girl'"

"The century girl?" Nick repeated breathlessly, still not over the recent

shock. He waited for the man to go on, but the man was only staring at him

    meaningfully.

Nick reviewed the last sentence the man said, and noticed the emphasize he

made on the phrase 'The Century Girl'. It took him a while to realize what the

man was actually saying. His eyes widened, and he shook his head in

astonishment "Are you saying that she is the century girl?"

    "Yes, that's what I'm saying"

"That can't behow?" Nick forgot his shock, and leaned over the table,

placing his hands over its sides.

"The three societies are fighting over her".

Nick glared at him with outrage, but the man continued ignoring his reaction

"Your mission is to bring her here, it's the safest place for herwe will be

giving you the information you need we'll take care of

everythingmeanwhile the only task we're going to give you for now is to

discover your ability oh and I must warn you, please don't spoil our plans by

confronting your family with what you've known, they know t he truth and if

they knew that you know now they will do what's in their power to stop you "

  • 8/7/2019 The century girl ( first two chanpters )

    15/21

"But why? If they know all that, why aren't they doing something about it?"

"Such an involvement with the matter will put the whole family at risk, but if

you help me in this no one will ever know it's your family as you know

individuals have more freedom in choice than clans" .

He slapped his bedroom door behind him, and went to the large boxing bag

hanging from his roof he used it long ago when everything seemed so

frustrating, and he needed to take out his rage, but he hasn't used it in a long

while; nothing really mattered that much to him for years now without

wearing anything to protect his knuckles, he started punching the bag with all

his force, he punched it time after time grunting with exasperation, unloading

all the frustration and rage that boiled through his body. Finally, his

accelerating breaths slowed down, and he stopped, stepping away from the

bag, he breathed deeply, and rubbed his knuckles. His body was so sweaty,

his whole shirt looked damp, and his face and arms looked wet.

He threw his body over the bed, and allowed his muscles to relax before he

    went to the shower.

When he got out, he let his body drop on the bed, sitting, he covered his fa ce

with his palm and then dropped his head to the side, over his pillow. Shifting

his weight over the bed, he thought about the new things he'd come to know

today. His grandfather knew about this, and his parents must've known too,

according to that man his grandfather is trying to protect the family. Thoughts

went through his head making him more and more angry, but he couldn't

settle his mind, and he felt his head aching, groaning he pulled himself up,

and went to take a refreshing walk on the beach.

Barbra reached for the ringing phone , and answered in her usual bright

    welcoming voice "Hello?"

A young man's voice answered her "Yeah, helloCan I talk to Nick?"

"Yes of course, just a minute" she called out for her son, and handed him the

small phone when he came saying "Seems like one of your friends" she gavehim and warm smile, and then went back to the kitchen, where they were

    almost done with lunch.

"Yes, who is it?" he answered casually.

"Are you ready?" the boyish voice completely changed when its owner spoke

with his usual manner, it was the driver from the previous day. Although Nick

  • 8/7/2019 The century girl ( first two chanpters )

    16/21

only heard him talk once, his thin voice with its steal strict manner was

    distinguishable.

Nick cleared his throat and answered "Yes, I am"

"Tomorrow, you'll have to go to the airport"

"What? Why?" that was a surprise.

"You're going to that place where the monsters attacked it's your first

station I want you there at 9 p.m. is that clear?"

It was a fancy hotel room where the skinny redhead left him the next day. She

stood on the threshold and said "I'll see you at 7 p.m. meet me at the hall".

She closed the door behind her, and left him with his thought. She was a very

rough woman, the kind that liked to wear tight revealing cloths that showedmost of her rather starved charms, her face was so far from being described

as charming, on the contrary her features looked more like a man than a

woman and her hair was cut so short it was a little longer than an inch. No

wonder she had to spend so much effort on emphasizing her femininity,

though she should've thought of that before working on those muscular arms

    of hers.

Nick lied on the bed with a deep sigh. Whether he was doing the right thing or

not, was something he still doubted. But as long as he would get to see Katy,

nothing else mattered, he wanted to know what happened, he couldn't just

continue his life not caring or knowing what was going on with his sister, and

knowing that he had the chance to know and he let it slip from his hands. He

is not a coward, and he would do whatever it takes to find Katy.

A knock on the door alarmed him. The woman told him she wasn't expecting

him till nine, but it might be one of them.

He opened the door slowly and found a man standing in front of him. The

man wasn't anyone Nick had seen before. He was large probably the largest

man he'd ever seen in his life, and there was something about his body that

Nick couldn't quite get a hold of. His hands were dangling beside his body in a

weird manner, as if he was holding something invisible, and his shoulders

were bent in an awkward crouch. His hair was damp with some kind of

moisture that looked so disgusting, and there was smell, a repulsing smell

coming out of it . Dear god how can anyone walk about in a hotel looking and

    smelling like this!

    17/21

Nick frowned at the strange man, but before he could come up with any other

response the man pushed him inside the room, and closed the door behind

    him.

Nick fell on the floor from th e violent push, then rose on his ankles to look at

the man with condemnation. He stood up and was about to protest, but the

man's hostel expressions stooped him. The man started walking toward him in

an alarming way; the attempt of harm was so clear in the man's eyes.

Nick crawled backward, "Who are you? What do you want ?"

The man's features suddenly started to change, it became more violent, and

he trembled so quickly, as if he was struck by lightning. His body started

exaggerating, long thick hair started growing out of his hard skin, and in a

fraction of a minute he turned into a monster. Huge ugly and somewhat like a

gorilla with long-black claws. Just like the descriptions in the news.

The monster roared and his black fangs showed up in a wide grim. Nick gotup to his feet with frightened gasps, and retreated till he fell on the white sofa.

The monster approached him. Nick felt the adrenaline rush through his veins

so hot, his body moved from itself; he jumped off the sofa and started running,

the monster followed with relaxed movements, he knew the room wasn't big

enough for Nick to escape, and he didn't have to rush for his kill. Nic k found

the wall in front of him soon enough, but his body couldn't stop running, his

muscles and bones refused to stop moving, he closed his eyes waiting to

crash into the wall and for the monster's black claws to rip him apart.

The wall didn't hit him, he felt himself go through a foreign material, it wassolid but it didn't stop him from going through it, then there was a new space

around him. Opening his eyes, he found himself standing in another room. He

managed a few seconds of astonishment and confusion before he heard the

violent impact on the wall behind him. The monster was stuck in that room

and he was Did I actually run through the wall!?

Another impact alarmed him that there was no time to wonder, he must test

that one more time to be certain if this was his ability. He ran to the door and

as soon as he got there the monster slammed the wall with his body and

made his way through. The sound was so loud, it made Nick jump and slam

his body at the door, but the door didn't hit his body, his body flew swiftly

through it and fell on the floor, he could feel the possibility of falling through

the ground, but he refused it, not k nowing how is body would take a fall like

    that.

He ran to the elevator but it was too far, and the monster would get to him

before the elevator arrived; he had no choice but the emergency stares, he

ran a few floors down then opened the door running to the nearest elevator.

    18/21

There were three men inside, he stood there as the door closed, and sighed

in relief. He sensed strange movements behind him and looked back. They

were all transforming into monsters; he screamed and ran through the door

before the elevator descended. And gasping for air he ran to the emergency

    stares again.

He opened the door and found the first monster right in front of him. He

screamed again and ran through the wall beside him, to find himself in a hotel

room, there was a woman in the room but he didn't notice her till she

screamed, he didn't stop, but continued running and yelled behind him "Sorry"

without looking back. He ran through many rooms till he found himself in the

    other emergency exit.

He got to the underground parking lo t at last, and he started to run toward the

    exits.

Why were those monsters after him, he couldn't think of a reason , they were

aiming for him, stalking him, not just killing who ever came in their way .

As he got closer to the exits, he heard the voices of the monsters there, and

he started running in the opposite way. And soon he realized that he was

trapped. His brain started working so fast, as he looked around him searching

for a way to survive. He jerked his head desperately and his gaze fell on the

    louvers.

The monsters followed his scent down to the parking lot. They looked around

and didn't find him. One of them snarled angrily "Where did he go?"

"He's still here, I can smell him" another monster said, he looked around andstarted sniffing trying to catch a trail of Nick's scent. He knelt down a bit, and

then started walking carefully, the scent led him to a car, and he raised his

head, and looked up to the louvers. He stood there for a second, and then

threw himself up into the louver crushing it under his enormous strength, in a

    surprisingly graceful leap.

Nick swallowed hard and tried to calm down, but the monster hit closer to him,

causing him to jump unconsciously, his head and shoulders went through

ceiling, and he quickly tried to climb up. The monster grabbed the louvers

down crushing it to the ground and exposing Nick, who was halfway through

the ceiling. The monster grabbed his legs and dumped him on the floor, Nick

cried in horror and pain, his body wasn't hurt by the hit, he'd tried quickly to

drown himself into the ground to escape, but the monster did not let go of his

legs, on the contrary he started crushing it with his grip. He didn't imply

enough pressure to break it, although it was clear that was easy for him to do,

but he used the largest amount of pressure under the amount that would

actually shatter Nick's bones. Nick screamed from the pressure, and let the

    19/21

monster pull him back, then throw him on to the other side "Try to do this

again and I willreach your leg and rip it off"

Nick looked back at him shouting desperately "What do you want from me?"

The monsters grouped around him, he knew this was his end, he felt he'd

threw himself in the lion's den, and he wasn't going to know anything abouthis lost sister, he was just causing his family another mysterious loss.

He shut his eyes surrendering hearing the monsters growling around him and

waiting for them to snatch at his flesh.

Long seconds passed till he realized that they had stopped snarling, the

atmosphere was so quiet that he could hear the thick breaths they took

constantly. He opened his eyes and found a big weird looking ball in front of

him; the ball was covered with long sharp thorns. The thorns were all what's

visible. He noticed that the monsters retreated as if in fear, and he frowned in

    confusion.

With a sudden fast movement, the ball dug in one of the monsters ' chest, the

monster made a loud-choked gasp, and before he fell to the ground the ball

flew from his chest to another monsters face the thorns went all the way

through the monsters head and rose from the other side then it chopped off

a third monster's leg and knocked him down to the ground. The thorny -ball lay

back on the ground, and the first two monsters corps fell on the ground while

the handicapped monster roared in pain, but he didn't continue his second

roar; the thorny-ball crushed his jaw and chest, and then flew to the rest of the

monsters killing them one after another. Nick heard their roars and saw them

move trying to defend themselves, but all that was so blurred he barely

noticed it. He started feeling dizzy and the feeling of nausea pressed on his

    stomach.

He almost blacked out, but a hand on his shoulder brought him back to reality,

he looked up, and found the woman that brought him to the hotel leaning next

to him. His eyes widened with shock and he looked around to see the

monsters lying dead on the floor. He lo oked back at her and exclaimed in

    disbelief "It was you!"

    "Let's go"

Hours later Nick sat in a room, in a big wide house, while the woman entered

the other room to talk to the old man that told him about the three societies,

and gave him the mission. The man was sitting in a big leather chair. He

netted his fingers together and relaxed looking through the wide window.

  • 8/7/2019 The century girl ( first two chanpters )

    20/21

"The boy discovered his ability sir"

    "What is it?"

    "He can run through objects"

The man frowned and said crisply "This is useless"

"But sir, he is in our hands now, we can use him for our benefit"

The man turned to look at her, his features relaxing again, "Go on" he said

twisting the side of his mouth in a wicked smile.

"He can be Katy's foible" she added.

His smile widened "Ok then" he turned back to the window "I'll give you the

discretion to do whatever you please in this case if you failed there isn't

going to be another chance we're not going to expose other information, we

have to be careful with this boy"

"You can trust me on this sir" she said a malicious smile on her face.

She stormed into Nick's room in about midnight, he was lying on the bed

trying to recover from the worst day of his life not knowing much worse days

were awaiting him when he saw her approaching him, he sat straight and

looked at her with anticipation, she stood a distance from him and announced

"It's time for your mission now get ready" .

"What are we waiting for?" asked Nick as he stood next to the woman in a

wide sidewalk beside a large bridge.

"You're going to meet the enemy" She handed him a small picture, the face

there was for a young girl, probably in her early twenties, she was beautiful

with bright eyes and soft features, it was almost impossible to think that she

might be of any harm, but the way her features pressed in a very serious way

gave a hint of her strict personality. His eyes narrowed as he said "That's

    her?"

"Do not underestimate her and remember, if you don't succeed in this

mission you will never get to see your sister you must take this girl down"

"I don't understand, you're much stronger than I am, why can't you take her

down, why does it have to be me?"

"That's because one of the men that's always with her, has the only ability that

can easily stop mine but he cannot do anything about your ability"

    21/21

Nick looked back at the picture in his hand; there was something about the girl

he couldn't figure out. He took a deep breath and ducked the picture into his

pocket, then turned to the woman as she gave him small headsets, and

attached a tiny microphone to his shirt "This is for communication" she left him

standing there and disappeared a few seconds later.

He let his head fall back and looked at the sky, while he held his hand tight on

the big gun in his pocket nervously.
