Jim Crow Laws

• Review Question: What were Jim Crow laws?

• Answer: Laws that required African Americans and whites to be separated in almost every way.

• Jim Crow = Segregation

upholds that “separate but equal” is OK, is the justification for Jim Crow laws

1. Civil Rights Act of 1964» Outlawed Racial discrimination against men

and women and made all forms of segregation illegal

2. Voting Rights Act of 1965» outlawed discriminatory voting practices (no

more literacy tests)
