Please come together as a community to keep our kids at Chantilly High School and help us develop a plan of action for the future boundary meetings! School Board Member Kathy Smith will be at this meeting.
The Fairfax County School Board will host meet-ings on November 12, December 3, and December 19 to discuss the possibility of redrawing the high school boundaries. Schools being considered for redistricting are Chantilly, Westfield, Oakton, Madison, Herndon, and South Lakes. Please mark ALL these dates in your calendar to attend these Town Hall meetings that are open to parents! These boundary changes will go in effect SEPTEMBER, 2008!

Chantilly Highlands Homes Association Board of Directors Meeting

Minutes are tentative and will be reviewed and approved at the upcoming Board of Directors meeting.
Board Attendees: Larry Miller, Wendy Hunt, David Howlett, and Darin Welt
Absent board members: Chris Tacinelli, Paul Thurney-sen, Jon Roe, and Imrana Umar
Homeowner attendees: None Darin Welt called the meeting to order at 7:38 pm. Treasurer’s Report: Dues were due at the end of April.
Eight are outstanding. Announcements have been posted in several newsletters. The budget was passed out and is in good shape.
Community Facilities: We are going to contact Splash about a number of issues that have been brought to our attention about the facilities and pool operation im-provement.
Land Management: No new business was discussed. Architectural Control Committee: Discussed ongoing
violations in the neighborhood and deferred action in one case to the following meeting.
Community Activities: Six people have volunteered for the Community Day event. This is not enough to man the event. A decision will be made concerning the event this week.
Civic Affairs: No new business at this time. Neighborhood Watch: Ongoing monitoring is continu-
ing. Communications - Newsletter and Website and Data-
base: Articles for the newsletter are due to Deb Neu-berger by the 12th of each month.
Long Range Planning: Researching contractors for this year’s long range plan.
Database: No new business at this time. Old Business: No new business at this time. New Business: We received a letter from a resident stat-
ing that she objected to people parking in front of her mailbox.
Meeting Adjournment: With no additional new business to discuss, Darin Welt made a motion to adjourn the meeting and Wendy Hunt seconded it. The board unanimously approved the motion and the meeting was adjourned at 8:50 pm.

CHHA Golf Tournament
For many of Chantilly Highland’s families, summer means swim team, and the Chantilly Highlands Dolphins enjoyed a phenomenal summer. Our Chantilly Highlands Dolphins finished the 2007 season UNDEFEATED in the Colonial Swim League White Division, with a dual meet record of 5 wins and 0 losses. The following groups won in their division: boys eight years old and under; boys eleven and twelve years old; and girls fifteen to eight-een years old.
In addition to the weekly dual meets and developmen-tal meets, Chantilly Highlands hosted the Individual Medley Tough Invitational Meet on July 9. This meet tested swimmers’ abilities in all four strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle. Seven teams from the Colonial Swim League participated in this event, with 188 swimmers. Out of the ten events, 13 Dolphins placed in the top six of an event, with Brenna Ferris placing first in the 11-12 year old girls’ group.
Several team records were broken this year by top Dolphin swimmers. For individual records, Christopher Grimmett-Norris tied the boys’ 11-12 backstroke record at 35.90. His brother, Robert Grimmett-Norris, set a new record in boys’ 15-18 breaststroke at 33.72. PJ Naber set a new girls’ 15-18 Individual Medley record at 1:10:07. For team relays, the following teams broke records: Christopher Grimmett-Norris, Christopher Donatello, Chris Marlin, and Bradley Johnston in the boys’ 11-12 age group, with a new team record of
2:30:79; and PJ Naber, Lauren Bachman, Taryn Saun-ders, and Tana King in the girls’ 15-18 age group, with a new team record of 2:14:43. And special recognition goes to Brenna Farris, who went undefeated this season in every event in which she competed.
The 183 youth who made up this year’s swim team capped the season off with a Swim Team Awards and Ice Cream Banquet at Oak Hill Elementary School. There, each swimmer was recognized for the enthusi-asm and perseverance that contributed to the team’s overall success. It was also a great opportunity to rec-ognize the Dolphins’ outstanding coaches, Chantilly Highland residents Bill and Terri Marlin, who have coached the team for 11 seasons. They were aided by a dedicated group of assistant coaches, who are all cur-rent or former Dolphins themselves: Lauren Bachman, Kathleen Brophy, Steve Connor, Tana King, Julie LaJoie, Carmen Lucas, PJ Naber, and Ryley Trahan.
If your child has not participated on the Dolphins before, we hope you will consider being part of our won-derful swim team in the future. There’s no need to wait until summer: Many of the Dolphin swimmers will main-tain their conditioning and camaraderie through the Dolphins’ Winter Swim program held each Saturday eve-ning at the Cub Run Recreation Center.
Thanks to all the parent volunteers who worked so hard to make this team a success. We hope to see you again next year.

Fair Oaks District Police Information
In recent weeks we have experienced an increase in ve-hicle tamperings and larcenies from vehicles, throughout the Fair Oaks District. In several cases just the GPS sys-tem was targeted. In other reports we have seen a variety of items taken, such as, I Pod's, wallets, purses, keys, cell phones, laptops, and even the spare change left in the ashtray or console area. We have also taken reports where nothing was missing from the vehicles but ap-peared to have been ransacked. In most of the larcenies that were reported vehicles were left unlocked.
To reduce the risk: - Lock your vehicle. - Remove items of value or at least do no leave them in
plain view. - Do not leave your keys/spare keys in the vehicle. - Remove the garage door opener so it cannot be used to
get into the garage. - Make sure your garage door is closed. - Turn your outside lights on or park in well lighted ar-
eas. - Remove papers from the glove box that would have
personal information on it, to include registration, and insurance card, keep them in your wallet or purse.
Most importantly, if you hear noises at night, get up and look out. If you see someone or something that does not seem right, for example someone walking down the street checking door handles, or your instinct is telling you something does not feel right, please call in and re-port the suspicious person(s) or activity. Do not assume someone else will. We would rather receive numerous calls than none at all. The non-emergency number is 703-691-2131.

Also note that a resident of ours reported spending quite a bit of time, and many large yard trash bags, cleaning up many, many beer bottles on Sunday morning, August 5th. It appeared as though someone may have had a party at a residence and tossed the bags on the common area around the sled hill to likely get rid of any evidence. If anyone had heard or seen anything that night, it would have been a great time to call the police. Help keep our neighborhood a safe and desirable place to live.

ABUSIVE DRIVER FEES
WHAT IS THIS FEE? The Virginia General Assembly passed code section 46.2-206.1, which creates a Civil Re-medial Fee (CRF) to be assessed against Virginia resi-dents convicted of certain motor vehicle-related or driv-ing offenses, which occurred on or after July 1, 2007. They are assessed on misdemeanor and felony convic-tions only, not on traffic infractions.
POINTS. DMV, not the Court, assesses demerit points against a driver's license based on the charge. Please con-tact DMV or check their Web site at www.dmvnow.com for information concerning points and any fees associated with points.
FEES (amount to be paid per year for three years). Driving on a Suspended License: $250 Reckless Driving: $350 (Includes Reckless by Speed)
DUI and related offenses: $750 Other Misdemeanors: $300 (Includes any other misde-
meanor conviction for a driving or motor vehicle re-lated violation).
Felony convictions: $1,000 (Any felony conviction for a driving or motor vehicle related offense).

INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
If you or another active individual you know can pro-vide INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH) Thrift Shop with 3-4 hours a week in volunteer service, please call (703) 391-3659 for information regarding the next ori-entation for volunteers. The Thrift Shop is operated entirely by IFOH Auxiliary volunteers six days a week (Mon-Sat).
The Thrift Shop is located at Fairfax Circle Shopping Center with plenty of parking available. The Thrift Shop needs responsible individuals who are willing to sort donated merchandise, operate the cash register, price and display items, assist customers, and perform various other duties.
All proceeds from the Thrift Shop support INOVA Fair Oaks Hospital.
Influenza Preparedness Guide Part of Fairfax County's Flu Preparedness Effort
This month, the reference guide "Caring for Yourself and Others: Seasonal and Pandemic Influenza" was sent to Fairfax County residents.
The guide is one component of a major pandemic flu preparedness effort undertaken by Fairfax County. The county's other recent outreach initiatives included train-ings, conferences and summits for physicians, businesses, child-care providers, faith-based organizations and other segments of the community.
"Planning for pandemic flu is not just a government issue," said Gloria Addo-Ayensu, M.D., M.P.H., Fairfax County health director. "It is important that residents un-derstand their individual responsibility to prepare them-selves and their families for pandemic flu."
Fairfax County began planning for pandemic flu in 2005. The new reference guide, the county's Pandemic Flu Response Plan, and additional pandemic flu resources are available on Fairfax County's pandemic flu Web page at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/emergency/pandemicflu. The county will continue outreach activities and hosting edu-cational events to help residents, businesses, health care providers, and community organizations prepare for pan-demic flu and other public health emergencies.

Architectural Control Committee (ACC) meets monthly at the Community Center. Contact any ACC member or appropriate Board member if you have ACC questions or concerns.

The committee meets as events are scheduled, and chairpersons vary throughout the year. Community Facilities Committee (ComFac) meets the first Wednes-day of every month at 7:30 PM at the Community Center. Issues pertaining to our swimming pool, tennis courts, playground, Com-munity Center and its grounds are managed by the Community Fa-cilities Committee. If you would like to become involved in this committee, contact Jeff Boehlert at 703-435-2836.
Land Management Committee handles all issues that involve the common areas of our community: primarily lawn care and snow removal. Meetings are held as needed. You may contact Paul Thur-neysen at 703-318-1468 with questions and if you are able to help on the Land Management Committee.
