The ritual of sharing a meal together is imprinted on us in
early childhood, evoking subconscious memories,
facilitating communication, attention, storytelling, generosity
and openness
The traditional focus group, (regardless of the sophistication of the moderator) can leave a
considerable amount of information untouched, due to
the social barriers we feel when “on stage”

What qualifies a chef as a discussion leader?
A great chef is constantly looking for a better way, new products, new tools
and techniques. A great chef is excited by otherwise undetectable
improvements in flavor, texture, color, smell… (S)he’s learned how to
harness science, and is constantly vulnerable to critique
Chef + Facilitator
The Chef’s Journey exploits the personal qualities of great chefs
and incorporates food as a centerpiece for discussion and
creative problem solving.
Involve the SensesInvolving the senses activates our memory and facilitates
openness and recall
Have you ever noticed a how particular smell can bring you right back to a moment in time otherwise forgotten?
Our brains recall events based in part on emotional weight, and the perception filter of the senses. Involving the senses
helps the discussion and subject matter to imprint much stronger than if in a sterile setting

Menu
Menu selection is driven by the desired outcome. If we want
people to feel comfortable, we prepare foods they are used to -
comfort foods.
If we want people to innovate or break new ground, we may
prepare more challenging and unfamiliar foods
In this Journey, we used the metaphor of “Frozen” moving to “Thawed”
