WE WELCOME THE CHALLENGES OF THE FUTURE
2
Given greater demand, the essential materials of our lives are increasingly faced with scarcity.
From water and basic minerals to rare earth elements, we’re improving the yield of existing
extraction methods while developing new recovery methods to reuse what we have discarded.
Stronger water filteringEngineering thermoplastics like GUR® ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) provide the flexibility needed to design filtration solutions that offer higher flow rates, lower pressure drop and increased strength. When used in a water filtration solution, GUR UHMW-PE offers design flexibility to address the removal of chemicals and microorganisms while delivering higher throughput.
ACCESSIBLE RESOURCES
Deeper results in mining productivityMethyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC), a derivative of acetone, is used as a frother in the flotation process in the mining of sulfide ores and coal. Compared to other frothers, MIBC offers fast kinetics and excellent selectivity, and it forms dry but easy-to-break froths – increasing both the yield and the efficiency of mineral recovery efforts. This technique results in an industry-leading way to separate valuable minerals from waste.

The ability to move further and faster is a hallmark of growing economies. Celanese helps make these desires possible,
while balancing energy and environmental constraints. If cheaper, faster and better is yesterday’s mantra, we’re adding
cleaner and safer to the mix.
Building the cars of tomorrowYesterday’s automobiles were all about speed and style. Today’s consumers, mindful of environmental impact, still want these things, but OEMs must deliver on safety, durability and fuel efficiency while still meeting the customer’s pricing expectations.
Weight reduction, more efficient engines and vehicle electrification are all significant contributors to the fuel-efficiency objectives of automakers. Celanese products have proven their ability to deliver on all of these fronts, from light weighting parts at a 30 percent weight savings to delivering porous membranes in battery systems and corrosion-resistant air and water management components for engines – all with equivalent or better durability and safety performance. Celanese continues to develop new, innovative solutions such as long fiber reinforced thermoplastics (LFRT) to deliver targeted weight savings or performance solutions to vehicle structural, aerodynamic and seating components – with the potential to lower manufacturing costs.
On the road and under the hood – we’re there, tooCelanese produces methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK) and methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC) – both used as critical elements in the solutions that move us. With MIBK’s role as a rubber additive that prevents ozone cracking in tires, and MIBC’s role in the production of ZDDP for lubricants and anti-wear additives, we’re in more than the parts – we’re helping you stay on the move.

PACKAGING SOLUTIONSProducts moving around the world require safe handling and protection. However, excessive packaging leads to a waste in
energy, money and resources. Celanese is active in efforts to do more with less by promoting the use of reusable materials,
reducing the demand on the supply chain and delivering a lower cost to the consumer.
Getting products into homes Celanese offers two distinct solutions for helping to get food and other products from production to the store shelf: our Ateva® ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) packaging films and our Clarifoil® diacetate thermoform films. Depending on your needs – versatility, sustainability or flexibility – we will work together to create the right solution that highlights your product, while safely delivering it into homes.
Sometimes, it is what’s on the outside that mattersMaking the products that go into the package is hard enough. But, ensuring that box, bag or bottle stands out on the shelf requires careful consideration of the packaging components. From coatings to adhesives to printing inks to barrier applications, the Celanese portfolio of intermediate chemistries and emulsion polymers – including ethyl acetate and BriteCoat® emulsions – provides the functionality necessary to supply manufacturers with the flexibility and choice they demand.
On guard against product tamperingInteguard cellulose diacetate film was developed for use in tamper-evident labels and seals to protect products such as food, pharmaceuticals and software. To provide effective tamper resistance, we take into account a number of factors, including adhesive selection, bond strength and peel resistance, to offer transparent customer safety or product security. If an attempt is made to remove the label, the Integuard film tears, leaving the label intact.
Stronger, lighter mobile devicesOur portfolio of halogen-free liquid crystal polymers (LCP) includes a family of high-flow, high-performance thermoplastics used to create increasingly thinner, more durable molded components found in smartphones and tablets.
CASE STUDY: HARD AND FAST MANUFACTURING SOLUTIONSWhen a global electronics leader needed to solve a critical manufacturing problem in producing key components for their popular line of smartphones, they turned to us for help.
