In this world of uncertainty we endeavor to prepare our students for what awaits them. They need more than the ability to work at a job and make money. They need conflict resolution skills, intrinsic motivation and an understanding of how cultures and ecosystems must balance to support the life of our planet.

Maria Montessori began this dream over a century ago. She opened her first school, Casa dei Bambini, in Italy on January 6, 1907. Many recognized the potential of her ideas. Maria succeeded in establishing several schools throughout Europe in only a few years. As classrooms become more child-centered and education slowly becomes more individualized, we are seeing a more mindful generation arise. In the classroom we set up each activity with a control of error so that the success of the child is guaranteed. With improving skill, the self-correcting factor is gradually removed so that the child’s own skill becomes the control of error. This applies to social as well a s a c a d e m i c s k i l l d e v e l o p m e n t . W e a r e equipping these children not only for academic success but

for success in life as well.

I wish you all good health and prosperity for the Year 2017!!

Special Thanks To Play, To Laugh and To Learn is the school’s motto for our students. The impact of this work is significant, and it all starts with the classroom teacher. Our teachers, referred to as guides are artful and skilled in the ability to assist their students to find their own strengths and their own capabilities through the use of practical, self-correcting materials. I am so thankful for our teachers, the environment they create, and the friendships they help foster.

I am continuously impressed with the amount of time and energy the staff at TCMH puts into making sure all students are successful! They are an incredibly talented group of teachers who want nothing but the best for our students and families.

Thank you for everything you do each and everyday that make TCMH such a wonderful place to “play, laugh and learn”

Classroom News Infant’s House Our Infant’s classroom will be moving to a new location in the new year. Our Infant environment will embody Maria Montessori’s vision of a “Nido” or nest. They are peaceful, loving places where babies can explore and feel secure. As is customary for Montessori environments, every detail is selected with the child’s whole development in mind.

Our prepared environment will continue to have developmentally appropriate materials and activities that support the child through each stage of infant growth. Because we “follow the child,” we provide a variety of environments where infants can explore based upon his/her curiosity and mobility, not just his/her age.

Toddler’s House As we all know, toddlers enjoy a regular routine. We appreciate January because, although some students may need to readjust to the school routine again after the long break, it is typically a quiet month in which to get back into the routine of the work cycle. It is a time to learn new Practical Life skills such as pouring a glass of water or preparing a snack. Old songs and stories are enjoyed and new ones are added. The oldest class members are starting to become more aware of social opportunities which puts a new perspective on class time. The uninterrupted class period provides time for lessons in Language, Math or Sensorial concepts.

Pre K’s House At the beginning of the year most of the students in the Pre-Kindergarten program adjust quickly to the daily routine. During the school year, although the materials offered are changed only slightly, the interest of the student gradually turns towards academics. We do lessons with each child every day, usually allowing the child to pick the activity but keeping in mind the child’s age, health, developmental capabilities and interests. A “lesson” is never a drill, but a demonstration of precisely how an activity is done, from rolling out the work mat to wiping up every drip of water and replacing the activity on the shelf. All lessons are aimed at coordination, concentration, organization and independence. The theory is basically to offer a wide array of avenues of interest and allow the child to decide when the time is right for each one.

Mathematics All of their work with the Practical Life and Sensorial materials brings order to children’s experiences, important indirect preparation for the mathematical mind. The developing child yearns to organize, classify, and abstract. Fortunately the whole world obliges with toes to count, temperatures to read, rain to gauge, and clocks to check. The Montessori math lessons lead the child through progressive hands-on activities, emphasizing concepts while preparing the child for abstractions. The extensions and variations we offer complement and support work with Montessori’s legendary math materials.

"When he discovers with so much emotion that the sky is blue, that his hand is smooth, that the window is rectangular, he does not in reality discover the sky, the hand or the w i n d o w , b u t h e discovers their position in the order of his mind by arrangement of his ideas."

—Maria Montessori, Advanced Montessori Method, Vol. 1

school year

The enrollment process begins annually in January, and placement decisions are prioritized based on the following sequence: current students, siblings of current students, then waiting list families.

CURRENT FAMILIES: If your child is not graduating, it is time to RE-ENROLL for next school year! Your form and annual enrollment fee ($100) are due upon submission of your forms to secure your spot for the 2017-2018 school year (September 2017- June 2018).Following the re-enrollment deadline, we will begin making calls to our waiting list families to fill remaining spots.

SIBLING ENROLLMENT: If your child has a sibling who will be eligible to begin school in August please ensure that that your child's name is on our waiting list file by contacting the office. Please call or email Sophie directly.
