Changing Seasons“

The Season of Stewardship is upon us. It is now time to support our beloved

Church and Community with our financial gifts. Each year we vote on a St.

John’s Budget to support God’s work in our church, our community and the

world. This budget must be developed by our Vestry and approved by you at

our Annual Meeting before it can be forwarded to the Diocese of Texas and

the National Church. Without your stewardship and pledging our Vestry

cannot do its job of providing for St. John’s upkeep and using our gifts to help

others.

I have never been successful trying to be a media person, politician or “spindoctor”. If I had those talents I believe I would start with Stewardship in my

church, St. John’s Episcopal, Sealy, Texas.

I would tell you of the Christian formation we experience when we freely give

gifts of ourselves and our financial treasures to be used for God’s glory. I

would “spin” you stories of how your financial gifts will help change your spiritual lives; just as it helped change the life of many of my friends and

acquaintances. I might even “spin” you my personal story when I first“pledged” money to the Church. May do that at a later time, anyway!

And yes, I would “spin” the tale of how our assessments to the Diocese of

Texas benefit us at St. John’s and in our personal life.

But, as many of you are learning, I can not be a politician; I can not make a

silk purse from a sows ear; and I cannot tell you “word spin” [that is

considered by some to be a big, fat fib].

If I were Rev. T. J. Upton, the famous evangelical, circuit riding Methodist

minister of the 1800’s (don’t worry, you never heard of him, but some day you

will) I would walk down from the pulpit, kneel in the aisle and pray with each

of you about the needs of others. After counting our blessings, Rev. Upton

would then pray for the needs of others. I am sure he would then look at us

and say, “God will provide”. And, you know what? God would provide for the

needs of others through us and our gifts.

I am neither a Rev. T. J. Upton nor a “spin  doctor” who can convince you todo whatever he wanted done; and for the later I am thankful.

However, I can tell you your financial gifts to support God’s work through St.

John’s, Sealy will:

* Help the Poor

* Pay our St. John’s heating and cooling bills (we do need to stay cool,

don’t we?) * Maintain beautiful landscaping

* Allow us to continue to worship in our absolutely gorgeous church* Help our Youth Grow in a Christian environment

* Feed the hungry

* Clothe the naked

* Help those in need

* The list goes on.

Many of you are sacrificing with your time to help keep St. John’s alive and

well. I can only say thank you!! Without your dedication and gift of self we

would not be able to accomplish all we do. We thank you for your gift of self!!

Let each of us count our many blessings, look honestly at the needs of others

and give thanks to God for His bountiful gifts.

Decide what St. John’s Mission is really worth to you.

Your Vestry will not allow our financial gifts to be wasted.

Remember, we will still have homemade pies, gumbo, cakes; and with

encouragement you may yet eat the best stuffed cabbage rolls you ever had --

but not until after our Stewardship Season.

God Bless,

LeB

4th of July CelebrationOur scouts, Andrew, John and Will presented the colors and lead us in thePledge of Allegiance at the beginning of the service on Sunday, July 4.Nicholas served as an usher. After church we celebrated with a hot doglunch. The hall looked festive in Red, White and Blue. Annie provided uswith a watermelon fruit basket and the youth of all ages enjoyed an icecream sundae for dessert!

Thanks to everyone who helped out to make it a great celebration,especially Suzie for planning & shopping; Lianne, Elise, Jennifer & Andrea

Senior Warden’s Message

If you missed the 4th of July service and picnic, I made the announcement the

Vestry elected Eric as our pastoral leader. We have received confirmation

from Bishop Doyle making it effective September 1, 2010. "Pastor " would

be an appropriate title, if you wish . There will be 'the work of the pastoral

leader' posted on the bulletin board at the parish hall.

Marge Michaelis did a reading at the picnic about the origin of the national

anthem.

Upcoming will be a work day at the parish office. Eric is moving his office

into the former bedroom, and will be available in Sealy on Wednesdays and

Sundays. See Susie for volunteering.

If you haven't looked at our website lately, do so! John Kelley is keeping it

current and is doing an excellent job. Thank you, John. In addition to our

website, he is also a student and working!

It is so good to see our youth involved in our services. Their are doing a great

 job and I am really proud of them as well as our whole congregation. We are a

family sized church and we are truly family!

Andrea Ford is doing a great job on The Chimes. Please let her know if you

have anything to add.

God's blessing,

Pat Klotz
