“Truth About Grace” Studies In Galatians offers a deeper understanding of the grace of God as providing salvation and as the basis for righteous living. In addition, we will be lead to demonstrate a life characterized by God's grace.
From the PastorFrom the PastorFrom the Pastor Hey Church Family!
How much do you love the Word of God? Do you love
it enough to really spend some time in it? To study it,
memorize it, and even apply it to your life? The way we
live our lives can say so much about what role the Bible
plays in our lives.
The new minister was asked to teach a boys' class in the absence of the regular teacher. He decided to see what they
knew, so he asked who knocked down the walls of Jericho. All the boys denied having done it, and the preacher was appalled by their ignorance. At the next deacons' meeting he told about the experience. "Not one of them knows who knocked down the walls of Jericho," he lamented. The group was silent until finally one seasoned veteran of disputes spoke up. "Preacher, this appears to be bothering you a lot. But I've known all those boys since they were born and they're good boys. If they said they didn't know, I believe them. Let's just take some money out of the repair and maintenance fund, fix the walls, and let it go at that."
Funny...but I'm afraid that story is all too true in the lives of God's people
today. God's Word is just slipping away. After 30 years as a pastor, a New
Jersey minister concluded, "The Bible is the best-selling, least-read, and least
understood book." In his view, "Biblical illiteracy is rampant."
George Gallup, the foremost religion pollster in the US, agrees: "We revere
the Bible," he says, "but we don't read it." In a recent survey, 64 percent of
those questioned said they were too busy to read the Bible. The average
household has three Bibles but less than half the people in the US can name the
first book in the Old Testament. One survey found that 12 percent of its
Christian respondents identified Noah's wife as Joan of Arc!
The solution? Get back to the Bible. And that means read it! Read the
Bible through this year by reading it daily, or just take a certain book and read
through that book by reading 5 scriptures a day. Are we too busy for that? If
we can say yes...then we're just too busy. That's all there is to that.
The goal is not information, but transformation. Remember 2 Timothy
3:16? Someone once summarized this verse by saying: "God's Word shows us
which road to take (doctrine). It tells us when we get off track (reproof); how to
get back on (correction); and how to stay on (instruction in righteousness)."
It's been said the Bible is like a telescope. If a man looks through his
telescope he sees worlds beyond; but if he looks at his telescope, he does not see
anything but that. The Bible is a thing
to be looked through to see that which
is beyond; but most people only look
at it and so they see only the dead
letter.
God's Word is a precious gift. Let's
continue to look through the Bible and
trust God in what He says and does.
Get your Bible and we'll see you in
Church & Bible Study this Sunday.
God bless. I love you.
