  • DIRECTORS GREETING

This story has been dear to my heart since I was a little girl, and it has been a dream of mine to bring it to life on stage. Adapting the novel into a script for live theatre has been a challenge and I am very grateful to the cast and crew for their patience and hard work as amendments were made throughout the rehearsal process.

The Secret Garden is a beautiful story of new beginnings, deter-mination and love, and I hope that it touches your soul like it has touched mine.

    CAST (in order of appearance)

Mary Lennox is a spoiled, rotten little girl who has always received exactly everything that she has ever wanted, except the love of her parents. When she becomes the only survivor of a cholera outbreak in India, she is sent to live at Misselthwaite Manor in England, under the care of her uncle. As her uncle, Mr, Craven, is a peculiar man who prefers to hide himself away by traveling for extended periods of time, Mary is again left to be attended by the hired help. The discovery of a secret garden and her quest to breathe life back into it becomes Marys saving grace, and as the garden blooms, so does her heart.

I will be performing the role of Narrator in The Chronicle Projects performance of The Secret Garden. This will be my second time participating in a production of live theatre. My first experience was in the role of Lady B. in the production of Whiteoaks, also produced by The Chronicle Project.

    Ella Davi-Digui

Throughout Ellas ten years, life seems to be an endless adventure led by imagination and filled with drama. In the past, Ella has acted as a Little Munchkin in the Wizard of Oz and enjoys being in various skits. Along with acting, singing, and dancing, Ella loves telling stories and acting along with them. Ellas middle name, Eulalie, means well spoken and her family thinks it is a good name for her. Ella has a dream of heading off to a fashion college and someday owning her very own fashion house. Another dream of her is to travel to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower, which will come true this coming summer.

  • 4Hellen Mohr

Hellen is 18 years old. She first found her love for theatre when she came to Canada from Germany and has been a part of five productions including Miracle on 34th Street, Black Comedy and Crushed. She is happy to be part of this play, even though it is only for 30.512 seconds of stage time and enjoys the company of her fellow cast members throughout each two hour rehearsal. Now that she has given you enough Top Secret information, she says goodbye.

    Brendan Inscho

Brendan has a problem. He cant seem to stop writing in third person. He cant quite figure out why. But here he is anyways. Anywho, you may have seen Brendan in other shows such as HRHs Dracula, Miracle on 34th Street, and Tuna Fish Eulogy. Regardless if you have or not, Brendan wishes you a good day. Brendan also wishes he could write in first person, or even second person. But he is stuck in third person, like some kind of thirdpersonaholic. Which he definitely isnt.

Biographies are scary. Now that Ive gotten that out of the way, I guess its time to talk about myself? Ive been involved in both theatre and music since the sixth grade, debuting as Willy Wonka in PGMSs production of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Since then, Ive performed in over a dozen productions (school and

community) and have concurrently performed with a handful of different bands, playing a plethora of musical styles and instruments. This will be my second production as Sound Designer for the Chronicle Project and Im truly excited for you to see the finished result. Through the Chronicle Project, Ive had the chance to experiment and expand my musicality, challenged by the task of bringing music and theatre together. Its been inspiring to work with this highly dedicated cast and crew. Id like to thank my parents and the many strong leaders, supporters and enthusiasts the arts community has in Edson that help keep the arts alive. I cannot thank you all enough.

    Robbie Hemsworth

My name is Robbie Hemsworth, and I will be designing the lighting for The Secret Garden. I will also be operating the lights during the show. I have done lighting for Pine Grove Middle Schools Wizard of Oz and The Devil in Sherman Marsh. This year I will be doing Parkland Composite Highs 10 Reasons Not to be In a Play for Drama Festival in May.

Throughout the years of my life, I have always been interested in acting. My first play was in grade four and was a Christmas play. Having never been in a play before, I managed to land oneof the largest roles there was. After the play was over, I knew I wanted to participate in as many plays as I possibly could. After grade four, we lost our drama teacher, so I could not participate in a play. In grade six, I was focusing all my attention towards education, so, no play in grade six either. In grade seven and eight I participated in The Wizard of Oz, The Devil in Sherman Marsh, Into the Woods and Sequence. The Secret Garden is my first time doing backstage and I am extremely excited to learn about backstage!

    Emily Pole

Emily is soon entering her second year as a Theatre Creation and Performance student at Red Deer College but made her debut in acting in 2007 here in Edson. In the past year Emily has played; Butt Ugly in the show Butt Ugly (An anti-tobacco social action theatre piece) and Rosie Probert, Mae Rose Cottage, Guide book and Narrator in Under Milkwood by Dylan Thomas. She is so excited to don the title of Talent Wrangler and be able to experience more of the tech side of theatre in this production.

I am in the 9th grade at Parkland. I have always loved art and was in my first real play in the 8th grade. I havent been able to get enough since. I played the Wicked Witch of the West in The Wizard of Oz and have been in 2 one-act plays. I love plays and working with people so I desire to be a math and theatre teacher, preferably with high school students. I put in all my time and effort into whatever I work on. This is the first that I have ever worked with backstage, and I am quite fond of doing hair & make-up, but especially costumes. I am extremely fortunate to have such an amazing mentor as Diana Inscho. I hope that I get the chance to work with this amazing lady again.

    Katie OBrien

Performances include Once On This Island, Mulan, Wizard of Oz and The Devil in Sherman Marsh. This wasnt the first backstage work I have done, but the hair, makeup and costumes were some of the most fun I have worked on yet. I started plays back in the 6th grade and have fell in love ever since. Acting is such a wonderful thing to do, most people have been in a play at least once. I have dedicated quite a fair amount of my time and effort into every play I work on. I would also love to thank Diana Inscho for being so understanding and great and teaching me a lot.

    Diana Inscho

Performing and visual arts have always been a love of mine and, as a result, I have always pursued them: painting, dance, drama, piano, voice, sewing, drafting, interior design, gardening... My love of costume design began with a few small sewing projects as a child, which led to Halloween costumes, bridesmaid dresses and vocal performance costumes. More recently, I have been involved with childrens drama. I was prop, set and costume head for two wonderful 3-week programs where children aged 3 - 19 performed full length broadway musicals of Peter Pan and The Wizard of Oz. I also assisted my two boys productions at Pine Grove and Holy Redeemer.

With a degree in Industrial Design, I have been working in Calgary designing interactive displays and visual graphics for a variety of businesses. Most recently I have begun doing more work within Edson and the Yellowhead County region. My work with The Chronicle Project has me involved in graphic design services for their posters, tickets, t-shirts, and programs. I have been a part of both the Whiteoaks and The Secret Garden productions.
