TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME SEPTEMBER 9, 2018

We fear many things in our world in these times. The words of Isaiah are comforting: “Say to those whose hearts are frightened; Be strong, fear not! Here is your God, [who] comes with vindication; with divine recompense [God] comes to save you.” Even nature thrives in God’s mercy and love. “Streams will burst forth in the desert, and rivers in the steppe. The burning sands will become pools, and the thirsty ground, springs of water.” We worry a great deal about the state of our beautiful wild places, but here God promises healing of our lands and nature refuges as a reassurance of our own healing from sin and death. The sin of destruction of our environment, and the serious evidence all around us of storms, wildfires, tornados, rising sea levels, floods, and increasing heat testify to our lack of care for our beautiful earth. But the earth, under God, resists our destructive actions and will warn us of our sin by the ferocity of its weather and wildness.

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three Today, we began the School year! It was a wonderful experience of our kids returning after the Summer break! Most of them were smiling! One of our new parents came up to me and thanked me for the warm welcome that she and her child had

experienced. That was due to our wonderful St. Anthony School family of staff, faculty and Home School Association members! In a similar vein upon my return from a Guest House Retreat in Indiana last week, I came right to a session with our ST. Anthony PREP volunteer teachers. It was a very hot School Cafeteria! But, in the midst their busy days with work and family, they were there preparing to teach our children in our PREP Family! We are blessed in this Parish with wonderful people who bring God to others! Peace, Prayer, & Gratitude, Fr. Jerry

THE RACHEL MINISTRY Every 20 seconds an unborn child is aborted in the United States. In the 30 years since Roe vs. Wade, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion on demand, the death toll has reached over 55 million. But the statistics do not document the other casualties: the mothers, fathers, grandparents and friends who are emotionally and spiritually affected. The Rachel ministry is a CONFIDENTIAL ministry for those scarred by abortion, miscarriage or stillbirth. Come and heal every third Monday of the month at the Marian Shrine in the Cafeteria Building in West Haverstraw, at 7:00pm. The next meeting is on September 17th.
