Stewardship: How much one gives is based on prayerful discern-ments of the gifts they have been given; giving from one’s “first fruits” and not from what is “left-over” without counting the cost. Prayerfully consider the voluntary contribution of your time, talent and treasure.

Talent: At the end of this busy year, we have so much to be thank-ful for the people sharing their time, talent and treasure. Thanks to all the supporters of our parish during the time of construction; the many stewards who spent countless hours doing the actual work; for the patience of those who were sometimes “inconvenienced;” for the construction crew who worked so diligently and most of all to all whose financial contributions made the project a success.

Thanks to all who made our Christmas liturgies so meaningful and special; many of our ministers served at more than one Mass, the Musicians, the Altar Servers, the Lectors, the Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, the parking lot people, and of course Deacon Lon and Fr. Joe!

Thanks to people who so generously gave to the CMA and ena-bled our Parish to reach our goal!

RESOLUTIONS FOR THE NEW YEAR

This is the time of the year when we thoughtfully review our past and promise to do better “next year.” Whether it is to eat more fruits and vegetables, get more exercise, improve our spiritual life - now is a good time to start.

Looking for ideas? Try these: Visit the Blessed Sacrament on a Wednesday between 9

AM and 8:30 PM. Plan on attending the Valentine Party on February 10. Attend the Financial Peace University beginning January

10 and learn how to better manage your money. Look over the Ministry List and join a Ministry. Attend ChristLife on Thursday Evenings, Following

Christ is starting January 4. Attend a Retreat: the Men’s Annual Retreat at Notre

Dame will be April 6-8; the Women’s Retreat September 14-16 or try a Couples retreat February 16-18 or October 12-14.

Plan on attending our own St. Leo Retreat March 5-7 with our Diocesan priests, Fr. Matt Jones, Fr. Peter Mottola and Fr Peter VanLieshout.

Make a Cursillo weekend: Men’s ‘92 is July 13-16; Wom-en’s ‘88 is November 8-11.

Attend the Catholic Women’s Conference March 10; the Catholic Men’s Conference October 13.

This is only a partial list of things happening at St. Leo’s Make a resolution to attend one or more events and have a blessed 2018!

TRAVELING VOCATIONS CHALICE

Our Parish gratefully acknowledges that

The Tydings Family will host our Traveling Chalice this week.

SUNDAY COFFEE

Fr. Joe and the Social Life Committee have begun to offer coffee, juice and a light snack (cookies, etc.) after the Sunday 9:30 AM Mass. Individuals and/or families have graciously been supplying the snacks and Joe Lee, a Sun-day morning parishioner, has been making the coffee. People are needed to bring the snacks each Sunday; there is a sign-up sheet in the entryway where you can add your name to the list. It’s simple, buy or make a snack, put it on the shelf for others to enjoy, any leftovers are saved for the Sunday evening Mass.

FLOWER DONORS AND THE CMA DONORS WILL BE INCLUDED IN NEXT WEEK’S BULLETIN

HONOR A LOVED ONE - LIVING OR DECEASED The SANCTUARY LAMP is a wax candle, generally in a red glass container, kept burning day and night wherever the Blessed Sacra-ment is reserved in Catholic churches or chapels. It is an emblem of Christ's abiding love and a reminder to the faithful to respond with loving adoration in return. Our Sanctuary Lamps, one in the main church and one in the Divine Mercy Chapel burn for seven days. If you would like to have either of the candles burn in memory of someone or to honor a person or a special occasion you may do so. Call the Parish Office, 392-2710 and schedule a week, from Sunday

to Saturday for your loved one. The Sanctuary Lamp makes a wonderful gift to honor someone. The usual stipend is $10.

INCENSE ALERT

Next weekend, January 6 and 7 is the Feast of the Epiph-any, celebrating the arrival of he wise men who came to see Jesus of Nazareth soon after he was born.

Incense will be used at the 4 PM Mass on Saturday and the 9:30 AM Mass on Sunday. Anyone sensitive to the scent is welcome to use the Divine Mercy Chapel where the Mass will be televised.

SAINTS OF THE WEEK

St.. Sylvester I, Pope FEAST DAY - December 31 Sylvester (Silvester) was the first pope after Constantine’s Edict of Milan granting a degree of toleration to Christian worship

(313). His pontificate lasted twenty years and included the famous Council of Nicea against the Arian heresy (3325). He died De-cember 31, 335. Sylvester is depicted in papal robes, and his attributes are the bull (because he revived one that had been killed by a magician) and the dragon that, according to legend, he tamed. He is the protector of masons, stonecutters, domestic animals and bovines. The Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Solemnity FEAST DAY - January 1

This was the first feast dedicated to Mary to be inserted in the liturgical calendar of the Western Church. The divine maternity of Mary was proclaimed church dogma at the Council ot Ephesus (431); in more recent times, the Second Vatican Council (1962-65) made the meaning explicit: “that Christ should be recognized, in the truest sense, as the Son of God and the Son of Man.” Be-fore this feast was inserted in the revised Roman Catholic calendar, the first day of the year had been dedicated to remembrance of the Circumcision of the Lord, which took place eight days after his birth, as prescribed by Jewish law.
