WHY? Aren’t they just babies??1. State Law requires on-level tests to be passed in order to promote

certain grades. (Grade 5 – Reading, Math)(Grade 8 – Reading , Math)

2. The State Board of Education has implemented stiff graduation requirements:• Starting with students who enter the ninth grade in 2011, high-

school students will be required to average passing scores on end-of-course tests in 12 subjects.

• The score on the end-of-course test will count for 15 percent of the student's final grade.

3. 2012 is the field test for the brand new STAARS test, which is replacing the TAKS test.

What can we do to help?

Parents and schools are a partnership!• Check Daily Folder & Weekly Light bulb• Read with your child.• Allow your child to make mistakes. Seeing errors

allows teachers to reteach.• Work on listening and following directions the first

time. This allows us to spend more time teaching!• Social Skills = survival skills. Learning how to work

and play together sets the groundwork for success in school.
