The Coaching Academy is now the number one coach training programme in Britain.

When e Coaching Academy was founded in 1999 few would have guessed that the company and it’s clients would go on to have the success that they have had. But then I’ve always had a lot of confidence in the trainers that lead our courses. And I’ve always had a lot of confidence in the power of coaching to transform lives. And come to think of it, I’ve always had a lot of confidence in the energy and commitment of the delegates who come to learn with us. So perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that those three things have combined to bring success for e Coaching Academy, its customers and its partners. ousands of people have now trained as coaches with us and I’d love to think that, having read the information contained in this brochure, you’ll be the next one to take this exciting and rewarding step inyour personal development.

With warm wishes

Will this course suit you?

e number one essential background qualification to take any of our diplomas is a passion for helping others succeed. If you gain personal and professional satisfaction from helping others to reach their goals, then coaching is for you. e Coaching Academy has trained learners from those at an early stage in their careers right through to those who are well into retirement. And they come from a wide variety of work backgrounds too – teachers, psychologists, youth workers, HR professionals, in fact, you name it!

A coaching culture has developed in the UK, and more and more people understand the benefits coaching can bring to both the personal and professional environment. If you are excited by the challenge of developing your skills in this field, if you want to learn from the best coaches and gain the most comprehensive coaching qualification available in the UK – the Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching is for you. e majority of UK coaches with a substantive qualification in coaching have studied with e Coaching Academy.

What kind of clients will you work with?

Once you have gained e Coaching Academy’s Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching, you are equipped with a huge toolkit of techniques to coach individuals through a wide range of personal performance issues. If your aim is to go into business as a personal coach, you will be qualified and able to do so. If you want to use your new qualification within your current working life or to enhance your personal relationships, you will be able to do that too. e skills you gain will remain with you for life. ey move with you as you move, and using modern technology your client reach is wherever an email and a telephone call can take you. at’s everywhere!

e issues clients raise are as diverse as the clients themselves. Your very first client could bring anything from financial matters to family or health concerns to the table. As you gain confidence and experience you may start to specialise in one specific type of coaching, or you may decide to only coach one particular type of client. Helping others to recognise potential is frequently cited by our learners as a major motivation. Your potential future client is anyone who knows they have not yet achieved all they desire - and that’s everyone.

We asked our graduates why they had decided to train with e Coaching Academy, and they came back with six key responses. Perhaps some of these reasons ring a bell with you?

Ethical Standards

Just as in the field of counseling, coaching remains a self-regulating profession, and with no internationally agreed regulatory body in place in this comparatively new discipline, e Coaching Academy has taken the lead in establishing an ethical framework within which the profession can develop. All coaches qualifying with e Coaching Academy are asked to join with our trainers, staff and associates in subscribing to our Code of Conduct – key points that guide all our activities. As e Coaching Academy’s graduates make up the majority of the UK’s practicing coaches, it is easy to see that our Code of Conduct is the most meaningful point of reference on ethical standards within coaching today.

Quality of the trainers

If you want to train to be a coach, the best people to learn from are those who are already successfully coaching. Bev James and her team of trainers all run successful businesses as personal and business coaches. Our trainers include some of the best coaches in the UK – which means they

can act as great role models for your own future practice. Some of the coaches you will meet on this diploma first encountered e Coaching Academy as curious delegates on our introductory foundation course. Perhaps like you, they wondered if coaching could give them impetus in finding a whole new personal and professional life. Now they run coaching businesses with clients across the world. Why not follow the same path?

Quality of the training

If you are looking for a cutting-edge qualification that is internationally recognised as the gold standard, our diplomas are just what you are looking for. Why not send a strong signal that you are a professional coach with a professional attitude? Our coach training model has been developed following years of research and feedback, and we aim to continually improve and update our courses to meet the changing needs of our coaches and the profession. Our training is successful for many reasons, including the quality of the materials, the ongoing support you receive while you train, the motivational live Accelerator Days you will attend and the community of fellow students and coaches you will join. Our training courses have been developed in consultation with professional coaches and students of coaching and we are convinced they are the best available anywhere.

Depth of knowledge and experience

Our students know that a diploma from e Coaching Academy is not an entry level qualification. Anyone who has attended the Free 2-day Foundation in Life Coaching Course will understand that they have dipped a toe in the waters of coaching but no more. In terms of your development as a coach, there is no substitute for the in-depth training offered by e Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching, or one of our other diploma courses. It simply isn’t possible to meaningfully train as a coach just from reading a book, no matter what some might suggest. Our model is a mixture of live training, real coaching, as well as distance learning. You gain real hands-on experience of coaching as you train. e depth of knowledge you will gain on our diploma courses means your professional ability will stand up to the closest scrutiny from any future potential client. You will be the best possible personal performance coach because you have studied in a way that immersed you in the subject. If you want to simply read a book and then tell yourself you are a coach, that’s fine. But you will be cheating yourself – and crucially you will be cheating your clients too.

continued...

The Coaching Academy’s Code of Conduct “ ”All staff, trainers, graduates, associates, members, fellows and licencees of e Coaching Academy must agree to follow this code of professional conduct:

• Always conduct themselves to the highest level of ethics, integrity, accountability and responsibility.

• Treat all clients and potential clients with absolute dignity, confidentiality and respect as free and equal individuals.

• Respect the absolute right of the client’s confidentiality except as expressly permitted by the client or potential client in writing or as required by law.

• Recommend different coaches or resources when these will be more appropriate to the client’s needs.

• Refrain from offering professional

information or advice that they know to be confidential, misleading or where the accuracy is beyond their competence to assess.

• Endeavour to enhance public understanding and acceptance of professional coaching.

• Share skills and experience with fellow members and associates of e Coaching Academy to further increase the body of knowledge, skills and competencies of such parties.

• Maintain the good reputation of the profession in general and e Coaching Academy in particular.

A serious educational investment

Clients are prepared to pay significant professional fees to an effective coach. But for that money they expect to meet a coach who has invested more than a couple of hours in their own education. Taking an entry-level course in coaching is simply not going to cut it in the professional world. When dealing with a coach, professional clients expect to meet someone who has done more than merely scratch the surface of the coaching discipline. When someone decides to undergo professional training as a coach, they are opening up a whole new personal and professional world. As a coach you can become one of a few professionals who can command high fees, work internationally (over the phone or online, or from your home office if you wish) and still achieve a work/life balance. Our students agree with e Coaching Academy’s philosophy that the benefits of training as a professional coach are such that investing seriously in this education is 100% worthwhile.

Personal reward

e financial rewards of working as a personal performance coach can be considerable but e Coaching Academy and its students know that the personal benefits are even more significant. You have the freedom to work wherever you want, whenever you want with whomever you want. You can work face-to-face, over the telephone or online; you can travel or stay at home; you can work with one client at a time or many. Ultimately you are in charge of your own destiny. And what’s more you can help your clients shape their future in a positive way too. You really can turn your passion for people into your profession. We believe you will never find a more satisfying career. Our coaches report that when they help others to improve their lives their own personal success blossoms too.

Why

trainwith The Coaching Academy?

Here are some of the expert trainers you will meet on our Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching

Kris Robertsone Coaching Academy Operations Director“ere are so many reasons to be passionate about coaching. Not only because of the feeling you get as a coach when your client achieves their goal(s) or accomplishes something spectacular - but also because of the changes you see as a coach in your own life

due to changes you find in the way in which you communicate with your colleagues, friends, family and loved ones. How can you NOT get passionate about coaching?! .”

Sarah Urquharte Coaching Academy Senior Trainer“I’ve been running my own coaching business since April 2000 and combine coaching with training in personal development and communication skills.Experience has taught me the same issues occur for people whatever industry they are

working in: they need help clarifying objectives and improving communication and decision-making skills, and support when facing change. ese are the areas I focus most closely on with my clients.”

Pam Lidforde Coaching Academy Senior Trainer“I became a coaching tutor because of my passion to assist others in exploring their personal power, my belief in the coaching process and my desire to be involved in sharing my knowledge about a subject I love.Coaching helps people transform their outlook

on their life, raises their personal expectations, and supports them in achieving their goals, visions and dreams.”

Dave Pille Coaching Academy Senior Trainer“In my role as a DISC Personality Profiling Master Trainer, I have had the privilege of working with some of the largest Organisations in the world and some of the smallest too. Understanding people and their communication preferences is vital regardless

of the size of a business. Knowing what makes people ’tick’ is such an important ability for a coach to possess as it can help attract clients, build instant rapport and ultimately help turn a coaching ‘practice’ into a coaching ‘business’.Understand how different client personality types go about goal setting and goal achievement, get to know what they expect from their coach from the first communication through to their last session. DISC is a powerful tool and will help you understand people in minutes instead of months as you unlock the people puzzle.

Why train with The Coaching Academy?

Professional training can never be replaced by the trial and error approach. e Coaching Academy has distilled the best practice from hundreds of professional coaches and created a coaching system that works wherever you live in the world with whoever you coach. All you do is combine the system with your own personality, skills and experience and you create a winning formula.

When you are trained by professionals you become a professional. If you are trained by amateurs, that is where you will remain!

All of e Coaching Academy’s trainers practice what they teach – they are all professional coaches with years of experience, successful businesses and clients who come back again and again. If you want to be in the same position, why not join us on e Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching?

e GROW model is first introduced to new coaches on our Free 2-day Foundation in Life Coaching Course. It gives a great framework for any coaching conversation, helping both the coach and the client. Indeed it is such a valuable tool for coaches that using the GROW model alone can help tip the conversation from being merely a useful chat towards becoming a valuable and productive coaching session.

is Accelerator Day builds on that introduction to the GROW model, and concentrates particularly on the ‘Goal’ and ‘Reality’ elements bringing in many other frameworks and tools.

Your trainer will take you through the purpose, impact and importance of goals in a day that really gives you a sense of GROW in action. e day course will take you well beyond the skills you picked up on your introductory weekend, and you will back that up with further reading and home study. You will develop your goal-setting, moving from topic to session goals as

you learn how to help a client onwards.

e concept of deep questioning is also introduced. You will learn about sequencing questions and the value of expertly summarising the client’s own words, and reflecting back to them what you have heard.

is training day is all about getting the most out of GROW. You will continue your study with a session on understanding Reality, and how to carefully explore what the client’s reality is. e day finishes with a look at how to overcome obstacles to progress, and the importance of helping your client avoid unhelpful assumptions.

is Accelerator Day furthers the knowledge gained on the Free 2-day Foundation in Life Coaching Course. But it is very important to note that the six Accelerator Days can be taken in any order – it will not affect in any way your grade or success if you do not begin at this point.

Once more building familiarity and confidence in the GROW model, this live training day concentrates on the ‘Options’ and ‘Way Forward’ aspects, as well as introducing a range of ideas for keeping clients going on their path forward.

Generating new ideas and options with a client, when they feel they are totally stuck, is a big challenge for many new coaches. is accelerator day looks at ways to keep the options flowing by taking a different perspective on the situation. Your trainer will also teach you how to enable your client to identify resourceful states, and find ways of designing great actions that will leave a client 100% committed to their achievement.

A further session on deep questioning precedes the final part of the day which looks at a couple of key issues that every coach will come up against at some point in their coaching career.

Firstly, how do you deal with a client whose motivation to complete a goal is dipping badly? Approaching problems in a new way is often the solution. Added creativity and thinking outside of the box can keep the client remain excited about moving forward.

And secondly, how does a coach deal with a client’s procrastination? When the ‘Way Forward’ looks uncertain, how do you as the coach help the client clear the path toward the goal so they can set out once more with confidence?

“In essence, GROW is coaching. Without the structure that GROW affords, clients would lack direction, awareness, commitment and action,” says Kris Robertson, who heads up the team of TCA mentors and supervisors.

LIVE TRAINING

All of our students really appreciate the practical emphasis of this Accelerator Day and in feedback it is consistently rated as one of our best workshop days – particularly for those very new to coaching. If the real life problem of turning your new skills into a viable coaching business seems a daunting one, the advice you can pick up here will seem like gold dust.

Much of the emphasis here is on the type of detail you will need to get right in order to thrive as a coach - in addition to being expert in the coaching skill set itself. So for instance, what is the best way to respond to telephone enquiries? How will you explain what coaching is, and its benefits, in such a way that the client signs up right away? What information should you take when a potential client first contacts you? How do you progress forward to that wonderful moment when you can sign a contract?

is accelerator day guides you through some issues that are vital to you as you launch your coaching practice. You will need to know how to run a client intake session. How will you make sure that goes perfectly? How will you keep control of the session?

As the title of the day suggests, this part of the diploma is full of the advice you will need to succeed. One key piece of advice is on how not to give advice! As new coaches it can be so tempting to do that, but of course we know that the client is capable of giving themselves the best advice.

You will also consider how to project the image of the professional coach; how to build a series of sessions for your client so that their expectations are met; and how to include exercises and homework in the ongoing relationship you build with your clients.

And finally you will consider your own well-being. How do you look after your own energy during a challenging series of coaching sessions?

COACHING PRACTICE

As your coaching skills develop and you gain more and more practical experience, the Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching develops your existing knowledge with some crucial new tools that will really enhance the coaching relationship both for you and for your clients.

A key starting point for any coach/client interaction is the need to build rapport. If you can successfully do that, creating an attentive and focused environment for the coaching session, and establishing your role as a trusted individual within the client’s life, your sessions have a real springboard to success.

e skills considered in “Empowering the Coaching Relationship” go beyond the practicalities of the GROW model: this is not about what you will do, but how you will go

about doing it. So key skills here are the ability to express empathy, and how to actively listen and respond in a non-judgmental manner.

During this accelerator day you will also think about challenging clients, helping them to develop a greater awareness of themselves and their actions. You will also look at the technique of reframing – a vital tool for showing the client a whole new perspective.

Emotional clients can be a major challenge for coaches no matter how experienced. As you coach them through some key life challenges it is not surprising that the emotions are stirred – and dealing with that is crucial. You will learn some vital techniques for dealing with client emotions, and the importance of keeping control of your coaching sessions.

is live training day builds on the ideas introduced at the introductory foundation two day course, taking your skills in this area to a very sophisticated level.

Firstly you will work on defining values and beliefs, and get to grips with the significant role they play in forming a client’s mindset. A crucial step is to think about aligning your goal setting with a client’s values: unless the client has bought into the process from the start, the goal is unlikely to be achieved.

Of course in any coaching conversation, both the client and the coach have values and beliefs. ey will form a key role in your coaching relationships. is Accelerator Day looks at the importance of values and at the role of beliefs as you develop your coaching experience.

e identification of limiting beliefs is often one of the most powerful experiences for new coaches taking our diploma course. What limiting beliefs are holding you back as a coach? Overcoming your own limiting beliefs can be a necessary first step in enabling your client to do the same. You will consider this fascinating subject, and be enabled to move on with confidence.

As you progress and expand your coaching experience the knowledge that you have left limiting beliefs behind will give you the confidence to help clients do the same. A crucial aspect of the “Values and Beliefs” day is the growing sense of your own confidence to deliver real change both for yourself and for those you are coaching.

Would you like to be able to understand people in minutes instead of months? Would you like to be able to identify their preferred communication styles and adapt your own so you can build instant rapport?

We all have different preferences in terms of how we like to communicate and how we like people to communicate with us.. So some of us are people-focused, whilst others of us are task-focussed; some of us outgoing, whilst others more reserved; some of us prefer a summary of big broad brush strokes, whilst others need the details/explained; some of us think before we act and others act first and think about it afterwards.

How useful would it be to know how best to effectively communicate with your clients? One of the keys to a successful coaching session is being able to adapt your coaching questions, style and the coaching tools that you use to your different clients. DISC profiling has emerged as the personality profiling tool of choice within the coaching industry with many coaches realising the benefits of being able to tailor their sessions to their client, build greater levels of rapport and have a useful marketing tool for prospective businesses and clients to consider. You can also help your clients understand their own strengths and developmental areas through using the DISC profiling system. With teams it can foster greater understanding and ultimately cooperation among team members who finally can understand why certain conflict situations may have arisen. Plus many businesses, both large and small, are using coaches to deliver DISC profiles as part of their training and development, recruitment and retention and business growth strategies. is Accelerator Day is packed with exercises, skills and strategies to give you a firm foundation in DISC profiling – an invaluable coaching tool. You’ll finish it with a fundamental understanding of DISC and how it can be applied within coaching plus a much better understanding of how you communicate, how other people communicate differently and what you can do to communicate more effectively. We’ve been known to heal family rifts, resolve work conflicts and even save the odd marriage through helping you realise where different preferences can come into conflict!

All of the live training days are run on a rolling basis – so there is no order in which the days need to be attended nor any requirement for students to attend consecutive months. e live training is designed to fit around your life and your diary.

e NLP Practitioner Programme works slightly differently. Delivered in 3 parts – Parts 1 and 2 are three-day events held over a Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Following attendance of Parts 1 & 2, delegates return for Part 3 held over a weekend. e NLP Practitioner Programme is run 3 timeseach year at Latimer Place.
