Education in the News

...Ral to the Upper Elementary! We are thrilled to have Ral back at The Cobb School. When you see his parents, Rai and Barbara, please be sure to say hello.

One of the many reasons I love working in education is because I get to experience two new years, two beginnings, two fresh starts. Like September, January presents us with opportunities to refocus, and this week I have grabbed hold of that. I am entering 2012 with a renewed commitment to the fundamental principles of Montessori while, at the same time, sharpening my focus on Montessori for the 21st century. Clearly, our time has come. Science has caught up with Montes-sori. Current research confirms what Dr. Montessori presented 100 years ago. Education begins at birth. The early years are most critical. Children learn by doing. A centered child is content. Peace education is the antidote. I could go on. All of us at The Cobb School work tirelessly to prepare the very best environment for our children’s social, emotional and academic development. We work hard to settle our classroom communities so each child can strive toward that enviable experience when deep concentration equals deep satisfaction. We work hard to help children understand how their words and actions affect others. We work hard to bring peace and stability to our children’s lives. We believe, we guide, we step aside, then we let them fly. I welcome you to the new year, and I invite you to share in my enthusiasm for the Montessori philosophy. Expect to see tremendous growth in Montessori education this year as it spreads wildly throughout the world. Be part of that celebration and take pride in knowing you have put that ball in motion with your commitment to your child’s Montessori education.

Happy New Year!
