For one very special week every year, The Cobb School welcomes Troy Wunderle of Circus Smirkus! Troy brings his tal-ent, skill and enthusiasm to our school and shows the children how to challenge themselves, work together and have fun. Parents are encouraged to join their child during one or more of their child’s class sessions on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. The parents are always a huge help, especially with the balancing equipment, and the children love to see the adults enjoying the circus! Elementary parents should feel welcome to select the session more convenient to their schedule.

Paella Time! By Eleanor Potter & Madison Dwyer On Friday, February 10 the UEL brought in veggies, meats, fruits, rice and sauces to experience the Spanish culture. We made a delicious Spanish dish called Paella. Paella is a traditional dish originating from Spain and is made of rice, meat, seafood and vegetables. We also made a drink called Sangria. Sangria is a drink that would traditionally have wine and fruits in it. When we made the drink, instead of using wine we used grape juice and added some sprite to make it bubbly. We started cooking at 9am on Friday morning and finished at noon. While we were cooking we listened to fla-menco music. To make the experience more authentic we set up the room as a Spanish restaurant. While finishing up our lunch we watched a video of flamenco dancers. After watching the video our Spanish teacher, Marisa Maldonado, taught us some great flamenco steps. While we were dancing, Mark, our teacher started playing along with his guitar, and the

rest of the class who weren’t dancing at the time gathered and clapped. Here are some reviews from our special guests: Mark I.: “La paella estaba buen sama con mucho sabor.” Mrs. Cobb: “It was very delicious and impressive.” Gerry: “It was incredibly delicious. I just had to have two servings.” Linda: “It was colorful, tasty, and it was nice to taste something new that I have never tried before.”

Lice Treatment Center technicians will check our stu-dents following the break on Monday, March 26. As al-ways this is done with sensitivity and without great dis-ruption. If you would like to accompany your child or if you would like your child excused from this check, please contact Mary Anne Creto at 860-658-1144 ext. 105.

Reminder: Elementary conferences scheduled for Wednesday, February 29 have been moved to Monday, March 5. If this shift poses a problem, please reschedule your conference with your child’s teacher.
