The Week Ahead... The Cobb Tales A Message from Mary Lou Cobb The Cobb School, Montessori 112 Sand Hill Road Simsbury, CT 06070 www.cobbschool.com Cobb on Facebook and Twitter Monday, April 2 Acorn Singers 3:15-4:30 Welcome back and happy spring! This week has delivered the ideal re-entry into our Cobb School life. The children were excited for Circus Week and so eager to work again with their favorite clown, Troy Wunderle. As always, Troy orchestrated a fantastic program for our school, and we are grateful for his commitment to our mission. Every year it becomes clearer to me why we value this circus residency so deeply and how our purpose at The Cobb School aligns so well with that of Wunderle’s Big Top Adventures. As I’ve watched our children and their parents this week, I saw again how Circus Week is a lot like Montessori. The children are first welcomed to the gathering where expecta- tions are laid. They are then presented a demonstration to pique their interest. Next they are provided a choice (Troy repeats, “What’s in Ring 2?”), and the children decide where they are headed. Each budding circus star practices his or her skills, sharing the experience with a friend or choosing a solo adventure. Then they move on to new work. The children challenge themselves and find satisfaction in their accomplishments. Their contentment shows me everything I need to know. Ultimately, Circus Week is about celebrating the individual. It’s about showing our chil- dren that they can choose their dreams. They can set their goals. They can accomplish whatever they set out to do. I wonder if you see Circus Week the way I do. I wonder if you believe in every child the way I do. I hope so, because it is good for the child, for the school and for the world. Believe, Guide, Step Aside, Let Fly! Mary Lou This week’s montage captures Circus Week at The Cobb School! It was difficult to tell who was having more fun at the circus this year the chil- dren or their parents! Thanks to eve- ryone who participated in Circus Week, and special thanks to our favor- ite clown, Troy Wunderle, for all you bring to The Cobb School every year. This week’s montage captures Circus Week at The Cobb School! It was difficult to tell who was having more fun at the circus this year — the chil-dren or their parents! Thanks to eve-ryone who participated in Circus Week, and special thanks to our favor-ite clown, Troy Wunderle, for all you bring to The Cobb School every year.

...Troy Wunderle of Circus Smirkus! Thank you, Troy, for your kindness, enthusi-asm and sense of humor. It was a wonderful week!

Parent Reminders

Attached to the Cobb Tales you will find a lost-and-found list that we kindly ask you to read through. All items must be claimed from the Nest before Thursday, April 7. Remaining items will be donated. Paul Cryan pictures or payments must be submitted to Miss Margaret by Thursday, April 7. After April 7 all remaining pictures and payments must be made directly to Paul Cryan Studios. Please be aware that spring clubs begin next week! If you have not already submitted your registration and payment to Beth Rumsey, please do so TODAY. Have you noticed a Valentine’s heart is lingering on the front of the building? That’s because it is the home to a nest of eggs that will soon be hatching! Take a peek but be sure to approach the nest quietly. If you have not already submitted your child’s grandparent’s or special friend’s mailing address, please do so by Wednesday, April 4. We will soon be mailing their invitation to Grandparent/Special Friend Day which is Friday, May 11.

Calling All Cobb School Families! The Auction Commit-tee is still working feverishly soliciting donations for this year's auction. They need your help. Are you looking for ideas? Past donations have included a week at a family's summer home in Rhode Island and a golf outing at a highly desired golf club. Other ideas might include baby-sitting for someone’s children so their parents can have a much needed date night or offering your creative specialty to a Cobb family. All offers and any questions are welcome. Don’t hesitate to pitch in. We need you. Donation forms can be found with Windy Jansen.
