Michael continued, “... the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to

be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read ‘he’s a dead man’. I knew I needed to take action.””What did you do?” I asked.”Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me,” said Michael.”She asked if I was allergic to anything. ‘Yes, I replied.’ The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Gravity’.”Over their laughter, I told them, “I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead!”

Michael lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything. After all, today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

In our previous article we discussed how free radicals damage our cells and how antioxidants protects us and induce good health. Now let’s take a look at what the main antioxidants are and where we can get them.

There are lots of different compounds that are considered antioxidants. Here are some of the most widely known nutrients:

Antioxidants and our dietOur diet is the most important source of our antioxidant supply. However, before we talk about what foods to eat, we also have to consider avoiding foods that are pro-oxidants.

Foods to avoid: • Polyunsaturated oils. These are thecheap vegetable oils including corn and sunflower. Besides being proinflammatoryomega6oils,theyalsogetoxidized very fast when exposed to light and heat, especially when used in frying, during which it reaches high temperatures forprolongedperiodsoftime.Ratheruseoils that are primarily monounsaturated like olive oil and canola oil or saturated

fats for use in frying and cooking like butter, palm oil and coconut oil.

• Fried foods: Fried foods are usuallyvery high in oxidized compounds, unless they are fried with saturated fats. It’s a good idea to avoid all commercially bought fried foods.

• Burnt foods also add to our oxidativestress and are best avoided.

1. White flowers2. Food coloring3. Vase

Instructions:• Start with white flowers. Roses, carnations, and daisies work well. If none are growing in your area, pick some up at your local florist.• Prepare a colored solution: use 20 drops of food coloring for each 1/2 cup of warm water.• Cut the stems to fit your vase, removing at least 2 inches, then set them in the tinted water. You'll start to see results in less than 24 hours.

How it works: Freshly cut flowers continuously draw water up through their stems, as through a straw. When the water reaches the petals, it evaporates through tiny pores, leaving the dye behind (dye cannot evaporate). Over time, it builds up, coloring the tips of the petals.
