The College of International Education (CIE)

The CIE, a self-financing unit of the Hong Kong Baptist

University managed by the School of Continuing Education,

offers a two-year full-time Associate Degree Course on

campus to serve the diversified needs of post-secondary

school students. Through a broad-based and innovative

curriculum, the CIE aims to develop the full range of abilities

of students and equip them either for employment or for

continued study in local or overseas universities.

Highlights of Outstanding Student Achievement

◆ 241 students graduated in July 2002 were awarded

Associate of Arts and Associate of Science by Hong

Kong Baptist University

◆ Some of the graduates continued their studies at

prestigious overseas universities including Michigan

State University, the University of Oregon, the University

of Adelaide, the University of Queensland and the

University of Western Australia

◆ Graduates with excellent academic performance were

awarded several scholarships at HKBU and one

graduate received the Excellence Award granted by the

University of Oregon

◆ 24 students were selected as members of various sports

teams of the University

◆ 3 students were honoured as the "Most Valuable Players"

at the Dr. Lam Chi Fung Memorial Cup (Athletics) Prize

Presentation Ceremony. One of them was awarded the

Dr. Daniel CW Tse Athletic Scholarship (2001-2002)

Course Quality Assurance

The Associate Degree Course follows the formal quality

assurance mechanism established for Hong Kong Baptist

University degree courses. At the University level, the

following committees play a significant role in course

accreditation and review while monitoring and facilitating the

academic and professional enhancement of courses offered

by Hong Kong Baptist University:

Teaching Approach

In order to enhance learning effectiveness, a variety of

pedagogical approaches have been adopted. Instructors

adopt diversified teaching methods that are learner-based,

motivating, and interactive. Audio-visual aids, multi-media

technology, group work and simulated learning activities are

used to ensure students' involvement and learning in the

process.

The CIE Student Society (CIESS) was officially established

in March 2001 to organize recreational and educational

activities to enhance students' College life as well as to serve

as an effective communication channel between the College

and the students.

◆ The CIESS office, located at Room 607 in David C Lam

Building, organizes a wide range of activities, such as an

orientation camp, book re-sale, singing contests and ball

games.

◆ Students can broaden their experience and establish

leadership by participating in various activities organized

by the Student Society and different University interest

Strong Articulation NetworkTo enable wider options for students when planning their further

studies, the College has established a strong articulation network with

21 overseas Universities from Australia, Canada, the US and the UK.

◆ Students can apply for direct admission to the final 2 years

of undergraduate studies at the partnered universities after

completion of the Associate Degree Course.

◆ Various partnered universities offer scholarships or awards

to HKBU students:

University of Oregon, Washington State University,

Queensland University of Technology (Faculty of Business),

Middlesex University

◆ Education Fairs and Information Talks are organized to

provide students opportunities to seek advice from delegates

from partnered Universities.

Fraser University which means graduates from the College

can apply for these courses in order to finish their

undergraduate degree studies in Hong Kong without having

1. One A-Level or an equivalent number of AS Level

subjects, plus 5 passes in HKCEE (including English

(Syllabus B) and Chinese); OR

2. Satisfactory completion of a pre-Associate Degree

programme; OR

3. Other equivalent qualifications to be assessed by the

College of International Education; OR

4. Applicants aged 21 or above.
