The new slider-bed belt scale Milltronics Weighdeck 600 with IP67 degree of protection measures light-to-medium-duty loads. It is suitable for flat belt conveyors transporting dry products as well for Intralox style belts conveying wet products. As a system, including an integrator and a speed sensor, daily production totals can be tallied. Sector Industry –Division Drive Technologies

The Drive Technologies Division offers its customers solutions for electronics manufacturing as well as complete systems, including standard and large drives applications across the entire drive train. These solutions, comprised of numerical control systems, converters, motors and drives, are tailored to the respective applications.

With its Siplace X4i, Siemens presented the absolute world record holder in placement performance at this year’s SMT show in Nuremberg. The machine is capable of placing more than 102,000 components per hour (cph) in accordance with the international IPC standard. This corresponds to 120,000 cph based on the Siplace benchmark test and a theoretical placement speed of 135,000 cph.

Siemens acquires BJC, Spain’s third-largest supplier of switches and socket-outlets. This enables Building Technologies to expand its strong global position on the market for electrical installation technology. It will also gain entry to the residential construction market and improve its access to the market for electrical installation in functional buildings. Headquartered in Rubí near Barcelona, BJC is one of Spain’s leading suppliers of switches and socket-outlets.

The Building Technologies Division bundles Siemens’ offerings for building security, automation and operations both as service provider as well as a manufacturer of products and systems. The spectrum of products ranges from heating and ventilation systems, to security and fire safety systems.

Sector Industry –Division Industry Solutions

Siemens Industry has been awarded a contract to provide the equipment for a long-distance pipeline which is to supply water to settlement areas in Saudi Arabia. Eight pumping stations will transport water over more than 900 kilometers of pipelines at a rate of 400,000 cubic meters per day. The contract has a volume of 60 million Euros and the pipeline system will start operating at the beginning of 2010.

Industry Solutions is the systems and solutions integrator for plant business, and covers everything from planning and construction, to operation and maintenance over a plant’s entire life-cycle. The Division has the process know-how for increasing the productivity and competitiveness of enterprises in various industries, and meets the need for environmentally compatible solutions with its water processing and raw material processing systems.

Sector Industry –Division Mobility

Siemens has received an order from the Belgian rail operator Société Nationale de Chemins de Fer Belge (SNCB) to supply 305 multiple-unit trains to be used in the regional rail service. The contract is worth more than €1.4 billion and marks the biggest order Siemens has ever received in the rolling stock sector. The first trains will be manufactured at in Krefeld-Uerdingen in Germany beginning in the summer of 2009 and are scheduled for delivery in the period from 2011 to 2016.

With its Complete Mobility approach, the Division is pursuing the goal of networking various transportation systems with one another in order to move people and goods efficiently. Complete Mobility combines the competencies in operating systems for rail and road traffic with solutions for airport logistics, postal automation and rail electrification, as well as rail vehicles for mass transit, regional and long-distance transportation.

Globe-trotters and business travelers can now check into futuristic "napcabs" at Terminal 2 of Munich Airport, giving them a pleasant way to pass the time during stop-overs. The approx. 4m² sleeping and working cabins offer a comfortable bed, desk and Internet access. An ingenious lighting concept by OSRAM provides the right lighting, creating a range of atmospheres for stimulation and relaxation.

Osram’s product portfolio includes lamps and optoelectronic semiconductor light sources such as light-emitting diodes (LEDs), control electronics and light management systems. Osram is one of the two largest lighting manufacturers in the world. The highest sales are achieved by the General Lighting division. Osram is the world's number one supplier of automotive lamps and LED for vehicles.

Sector Energy –Division Fossil Power Generation

The Siemens builds a combined cycle power plant (CCPP) in Wales for Severn Power Ltd., a subsidiary of Welsh Power. The power plant with an installed capacity of 850 megawatts (MW) will attain an efficiency of 58 percent. Construction work has already commenced and is scheduled to be completed in 2010. The order including a long-term service agreement is valued at a total of GBP665 million.

The Fossil Power Generation Division offers highly efficient products and solutions for power generation based on fossil fuels. They range from individual gas and steam turbines and generators, to turnkey power plants. The Division also develops instrumentation and control systems for every type of power plant.

Sector Energy –Division Renewable Energy

Siemens has received an order for the supply of 140 wind turbines for the world’s largest offshore wind farm Greater Gabbard located 25 kilometers off the coast of Suffolk. The order includes also a 5 year service and warranty agreement. The purchaser is Greater Gabbard Offshore Winds Ltd, owned by Scottish and Southern Energy plc (SSE). The delivery of these turbines is scheduled in 2009 and 2010. The order volume for Siemens is approximately EUR800 million.

The Renewable Energy Division bundles Siemens’ activities in the wind energy business (for off- and onshore wind parks).

Sector Energy –Division Oil & Gas

Siemens Energy opened one of the world's biggest test centers for large compressor trains for use in the oil and gas industry. At a cost of around EUR100 million, the mega test center in Duisburg, Germany, is currently Siemens' biggest single investment in Europe. The 180-meter-long, 40-meter-wide and 35-meter-high test center strengthens Siemens' position as one of the leading suppliers on the growing oil and gas market.

The Oil & Gas Division offers customers products and solutions that are used for the extraction, conversion and transport of oil and gas. The Division portfolio also includes solutions for power generation and distribution, compressors with electrical and mechanical drives, process and automation technologies, water management and integrated IT solutions.

Sector Energy –Division Energy Service

The Division provides comprehensive services for complete power plants and for rotating machines such as gas and steam turbines, generators and compressors. The services utilize the most advanced plant diagnostics and systems technologies. The portfolio also offers systems for filtering air. As part of its long-term maintenance contracts, the Division also takes over the servicing and operation of power plants.

The figures for this Division are incorporated in the reporting of the other Divisions of the Energy Sector.

Siemens has concluded a 12-year service contract for blocks five and six of POSCO Power’s gas and steam turbine plant. POSCO Power Corporation is South Korea’s largest independent power producer. The contract is valued at €110 million. In addition, Siemens will deliver key components for the blocks, which will go into operation in the summer of 2011.

Sector Energy –Division Power Transmission

Siemens together with local partners is to deliver a few of the key components for the longest power transmission link in the world. The order worth for Siemens is about EUR 160 million. Siemens delivers components for the future 2.000 kilometers long power transmission link from the Xiangjiaba hydro-electric power plant in south western China to Shanghai on the east coast. The order has been placed by the State Grid Corporation of China. Completion is scheduled for 2011.

The Power Transmission Division offers products and solutions in the high-voltage field – such as High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission systems, substations, switchgear and transformers.

Sector Energy –Division Power Distribution

After completion of its first supply system expansion project in Hong Kong, Siemens has received a follow-up order worth about EUR 300 million from China Light and Power. Over the next five years, Siemens will further modernize and expand the power distribution network of China’s third largest metropolitan region. The latest order comprises the delivery, installation and commissioning of about 2000 turnkey distribution substations with medium-voltage switchgear.

The specialties of the Power Distribution Division range from solutions for the automation of power grids, to products like medium-voltage switchgear and components.

Sector Healthcare –Division Imaging & IT

The Imaging & IT Division provides imaging systems for early diagnosis and intervention, as well as for more effective prevention. These systems are networked with high-performance healthcare IT to optimize processes (such as in hospital data systems like Soarian, image processing systems like syngo, and knowledge-based technologies for assisting diagnoses).

Sector Healthcare –Division Workflow & Solutions

Workflow & Solutions provides complete solutions for fields such as cardiology and oncology (including conventional radiation systems and particle therapy) and neurology. The Division offers solutions, for example, for women’s health (mammography), urology, surgery and audiology. It also provides turnkey solutions (including national health IT systems, solutions for complete clinics), and consulting. In addition, Workflow & Solutions is responsible for the Sector’s service business, for supervising the sales regions, and for managing customer relations.

In the ongoing field trial of 10,000, over 80 percent of the participating hospitals, practices and pharmacies in the trial region already use the Siemens CardOS HealthCare Connector. The connector links the IT infrastructure of healthcare providers to the Germany-wide telematics infrastructure. This gives Siemens a leading position in Germany’s market for electronic-health-card connectors.

Sector Healthcare –Division Diagnostics

The Diagnostics Division covers business with in-vitro diagnostics, including immune diagnostics and molecular analysis. The Division’s solutions range from point-of-care applications to the automation of large laboratories. Diagnostics combines the acquisitions of DPC, Bayer Diagnostics and Dade Behring.

Molecular analysis research for Siemens Healthcare Germany is now being conducted in Cologne. The focus at these labs is on breast cancer, the No. 1 killer of young women. Nearly 40 Siemens researchers are developing diagnostic tests that in comparison to current tests improve the chances for recovery and reduce side-effects.

Cross-Sector Businesses –Siemens IT Solutions and Services (SIS)

SIS has installed a digital trunked radio system for use by the police, fire depart-ments, the ambulance service and civil defense units over large areas of Switzerland. Encrypted and secure against eavesdropping, this new shared mobile communication system simplifies incident management and makes Switzerland one of the leaders in Europe in shared emergency service radio communication for multi-organizations. The order is worth just short of eight million Euros.

Siemens IT Solutions and Services combines products, services and solutions for the information and communications area.

A new estimate by Siemens Financial Services reveals: Investments in European healthcare systems are not being optimally financed. In Europe’s leading economies, the inefficiently bound capital in the healthcare system is estimated to have grown from EUR 11.1 bn to EUR 13.1 bn between 2005 and 2006. This represents an increase of about 19%. With nearly EUR 4 bn, Germany ranked first among the countries that were studied.
