To the Teacher

The purpose of Spanish Crossword Masters is to provide teachers with an educational tool bothneeded and fun for students.

It has been proven in a number of studies that using a thematic approach in crossword puzzlesgreatly increases a student’s written vocabulary.

Whether you are trying to teach, to review, or to expand the student’s vocabulary-growth ismost successful when the student is able to associate an image with the word.

With all this in mind we have chosen 15 themes, related to basic textbook units. Each theme has20 words and images for the student to practice. There are three crossword puzzles for eachtheme using images as clues. Crossword puzzles one and two are based on ten illustrations each.The third puzzle has all 20 illustrations that are needed to complete the puzzle.

These crossword puzzle sheets are designed to be reproduced for classes of individual teachers.

After students have done the first and second puzzles, they have seen and written all the wordsat least once before solving the last puzzle or all twenty words. This puzzle could be considereda “test” to check on whether the student has learned all the words on the visual vocabulary page.(Since articles are always used in Spanish we have included them on the vocabulary page, how-ever, they are not included in the actual Puzzle.)
