As the country gears up for a vibrant and celebratory summer, I am delighted to introduce another exciting season at The Core, combining high quality international work with some of Britain’s best contemporary performance companies and a cinema season packed full of Oscar winners.

In March we host What I Heard About The World from innovative UK company Third Angel and Portugal’s mala voadora (p.6), followed by a double bill of new work from celebrated choreographer Shobana Jeyasingh (p.7). April sees the first production from Corby Young Actors, Manifesto, directed by acclaimed Scottish company Glas(s) Performance (p.9).

June and July is festival time, with outstanding family performances from Italy and Scotland as part of Jump In (p.15), a spectacular production of Gulliver’s Travels (p.17), spoken word showcase Lyric Lounge (p.19) and Contacting The World: On Tour (p.20) an international theatre exchange featuring companies from Thailand and the USA. Looking ahead to the autumn we will welcome Edinburgh Fringe favourites The Magnets and Danny Bhoy.

We hope you can join us for a really special season.

Welcome

Third Angel and mala voadora are looking for people from the community to join them in their attempt to map the entire world with stories, alphabetically. In 12 hours the performers will create The Story Map and to complete this they need you to help them name every country in its own language, collect a story for each country and place it on the map.

Using craft materials they will take over The Lab and build a portrait of the world as it was, as it is now, and as it might be in the future. Drop in during the day, exchange stories and help us to see what state the world is in.

Have you ever wanted to be able to say whatever you want?

Manifesto is a new show that explores the beauty and bitterness of what we want to say and the way we’ve chosen to say it.

Manifesto is the first show from Corby young Actors, The Core’s six-month performer training programme, directed by Glasgow’s acclaimed Glas(s) Performance.

CommunityAt The Core we provide opportunities for the local community to collaborate with performance companies of regional and national profile to create original work based around their life experiences and aspirations.

Tribes youth Club works with young people and young adults with learning difficulties. They approached The Core to develop a project that would give the group an opportunity to work in a new way and introduce them to a different art-form. Together we will collaborate with Lucy Hammond, who has previously worked with Bamboozle Theatre Company, to create a multi-sensory immersive piece of theatre to be shared at The Core at the end of the project.

If you are aged 11 to 25 years with additional needs and would like to be part of this project please contact us, see opposite.
