,

I am so exhilarated to be your new

Coronado Key Club Bulletin Editor of the 2013-2014 term! Honestly, I’m actually very nervous about this newsletter and my first term as an officer overall- and I’m nervous because I care. I care so much about this club and everyone in it that I aspire to be the best bulletin editor as humanly possible. I will update the website as often as I can. I will produce the best newsletters I can. And most importantly, I will keep you guys updated on events and encourage you to love key club as much as YOU can!

I have so many ideas and goals for our club that I hope will one day become a reality by the end of this term! My most important goal, much like the goal of our new LTG RJ Immerman, is that I hope to increase membership, but personally, I wish to bring back our amazing members who unfortunately weren’t able to participate in our service events as much as they did at the beginning of the year.

I know how amazing and life-changing our key club can be, so I have no doubt in my mind that this will be a very fun, successful term!

On March 22nd-24th I was

blessed to attend my third DCON. Let’s just say as always DCON was phenomenal! It brings a smile to my face to see over 3000 key clubbers to scream until they can't speak another word. Meeting inspiring individuals throughout the district was just wonderful. Seeing Coronado win distinguishing was just speechless. Seeing my name on the second day of DCON during the awards workshop

DISTRICT CONVENTION 2013

WHEN: March 22-24

WHERE: Anaheim, CA

WHAT:

-DCON is widely considered the most

AMAZING, most MEMORABLE

Key Club event of the year!

-Meet thousands of Key Clubbers from

the CNH DISTRICT.

-Get recognized for your CLUB'S ACHIEVEMENTS.

- Elect the 2013-2014 EXECUTIVE

BOARD.

-Dance the night away at the

GOVERNOR'S BALL.

DCON 2013

My first and last DCON was an experience I could never forget. Being able to gather and cheer for

service with thousands of Key Clubbers from all around our Cali-Nev-Ha district was such an indescribable feeling. I got to meet so many amazing people and learn so much from the workshops. I'm so glad I got to help as SAA and take part in deciding our new District board. After attending DCON this year, I remembered why I'm a part of Key Club in the first place- to serve and help others, and what better way to do that than with our wonderful Key Club ohana? I could only wish that I could be able to attend DCON again.

K1 Day at Cannon Junior High School was a fun and

great experience. Key club students from different schools from all over Nevada were there to participate and help out. There were different stations set up and each had a different task. Volunteers who participated were required to bring plastic grocery bags. But all of this work was for one purpose, which was making mats for homeless teens.

-Erum Chowdhry,

Coronado KC Sophomore Member

Every day homeless teens stop by non-profit

organizations in Nevada such as Street Teens and the Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth. For several people, their place called “home” begins in areas such as these associations. During K-1 Day hosted on April 6th, 2013, by the Green Valley Kiwanis, a myriad amount of volunteers spend their time towards creating sleeping mats (sleeping bags) for those who are not fortunate enough to have a bed to simply sleep on. The project consists of several tables sat by Kiwanis and Key Clubbers alike; volunteers then fold, cut, and knot hundreds of plastic bags that will later be crocheted. Later on a few examples of finished mats are shown to the eager crowd: the results are amazing! The simple use of plastic bags is made into water-proof and bug-proof sleeping bags for teenagers throughout our state. The truth of struggles that occur year-round in our city is unbelievable; the students and adults that dedicate their time towards these struggles such as the homeless is living proof that any type of challenge can be overcome with just a little bit of help.

On Friday, April 12th I attended the Wolf Spring Carnival

with my fellow board members! Although it was a very hot and humid day, the fun and fulfillment of helping children, really relaxed me. This was the first event that the entire board went to, and our chance to bond really made this a spectacular event. I loved meeting all of the hyper personalities of the sweet kids. Most of all though, I loved the fact that I was able to give my service to the community, to the school, in any way possible!

children after they play their carnival games!

like the “Water Frog” and “Ring Toss” booths (left)to

keep everything efficient and keep the kids happy!

The first DCM was held at Valley High School and was a great

way for the new D28S LTG, RJ Immerman to kick off his

promising term.

During the DCM at Valley HS on April 16th was such a different experience. We got to learn about different club's service projects, and had a blast as our new LTG RJ Immerman, led his first DCM. Going to this DCM was quite fun after when we took pictures and got to meet other Key Clubbers from our Division!

What does the Board think?

QQuueessttiioonnss,, CCoommmmeennttss,, oorr CCoonncceerrnnss??

This term, I want to have accurate and organized Monthly Report Forms. It helps to organize information on meetings, service records, and attendance within our club. This is important for me because I send it to the division board and they can be updated on how our club is doing, as well as letting me know what to improve on when I complete the MRFs.

I'm going to personally contribute my time and dedication to the club. Since Key Club is the only extracurricular activity I participate in, I can fully focus on it in order to learn more about my duties and become a better Secretary along the way. I'm super excited for this term and what it has to offer!

SECRETARY A: SABRINA FAIRFOOT

[email protected]

Now that my term has finally begun as Vice President, I will be working twice as hard to improve our club. This year, I'd like to bring the members of our club closer together. I feel that many are afraid to attend events and unmotivated due to them not knowing anyone. By bringing the club closer together, I feel that we would all feel more like a family…because that's what we're really supposed to be. A Kiwanis family. I think some ice breakers, get togethers, and inclusiveness in conversations would help with this goal.

VICE PRESIDENT: BRENDA TRAN

[email protected]

This year I want our key club members to be more passionate about our club and have more fun in it. I would love to have more service projects so the members have more of an experience helping people around our community, and as well enhance their character building. I would love to expand my club more in school, making sure that more students are aware of our club as well! I will do all of this because Key Club deserves to be recognized for its value and for the goodness it has brought upon us.

I will personally have more ideas for our club to serve our community more often in a month, I will make sure our spirit keeps going, and we reach new heights and success throughout the year as well. I will be friendly towards everyone and make sure my members and board know that I am their friend and I will be there for them whenever they need help as well. I'll keep a positive attitude and work hard!

PRESIDENT: SERGIO LINARES

[email protected]

Well, first off, my goal during this term is to be able to get the Meeting Minutes for both the Board and General Meeting done as early, accurate, and as concise as possible. Having these minutes done earlier and sent to every officer early gives them the events and dates of each event beforehand and lets each one plan time for them accordingly. Also, if the Meeting Minutes are done accurately, the entire board is aware of the exact location, time, and date of the events taking place. Lastly, I would like to have every event description be concise because it would be helpful to have a detailed description using as few words as possible to get the point across.

What I would personally like to contribute is caring mainly because I would like each member to understand that this club is based upon caring for each other whether we have known them for 10 minutes or 10 years. As we go on throughout the year, members usually see this as a club just to do service work for, but they tend to forget why we do this work in the first place. I'd like to spread the word of what Key Club truly stands for.

VP ASSIST. TO SEC A: KAYLA ARCEO

[email protected]

What do you want to accomplish this term? Why is this goal so important to you/the club?

What are you going to personally contribute to the betterment of this club?

6

What does the Board think?

This year as treasurer, I hope to create more fundraisers that will benefit both our club and charities. While it is important to give back to the less fortunate, I want to raise money for our members so that events such as Fall Rally and DCON will not be so burdensome. That way, more members will be able to attend and to enjoy the Key Club life. Key Club is built around service, though service wouldn’t be achieved without members. The members are essential to this club and therefore our events should benefit them both morally and financially.

Personally, I will work my hardest to ensure that Coronado Key Club wins the most panda points! I will do so by turning in paperwork and money earlier than their supposed due dates, encouraging members to turn in money early by making deadlines sooner. As treasurer, my duty is to also be a moral leader, and I will do so by working to benefit the members, setting myself as an example of what a Key Clubber is. I will attend every event that I can to exhibit the profoundness of giving back to the community while showing enthusiasm in volunteering. With teamwork, we can make Coronado Key Club 2013-2014 the best ever! TREASURER: JOCELYN TO [email protected]

As my very first term on the Key Club Board commences, one of my biggest goals would be to make the best articles I can

possibly make. I’m known to be a very conscientious perfectionist, so as the Bulletin Editor, I really want to succeed at my job. Furthermore, there have been so many amazing bulletin editors before me, and I really want to make not only them proud, but CHS Key Club itself proud. With that said I also hope to update the website as much as possible in order to keep members updated and hopefully influence them to attend more events.

As for what I can contribute to this club, I feel I can contribute my spirit, enthusiasm, leadership, and perfectionism, so that I can help the board help keep the club as efficient, and as exciting, as possible.

BULLETIN EDITOR: MATT VILLANUEVA [email protected]

This term, I want to be able to keep the amount of members strong throughout all the meetings. Meaning I want to make meetings more

interesting and fun so that members won't disappear by the end of the year. This is an important goal to me because it's a problem I've witnessed our club has, and being able to fix this issue will eventually lead to higher community service hours and a better club. Also, I would like to increase the amount of people going to RTC and Fall Rally, in order to help win the spirit battles.

I wish to contribute my spirit and optimism to the club, to keep all the meetings and service events positive, cheerful, and an enjoyable time.
