Geology 101 Invite By Joy Fiore

Ever wonder how the mountains surrounding the valley got there? Ever wonder what they’re made of? Ever wonder why they are tilted, and why this is called the Jean-Goodsprings Mining District? We have a chance to offer a non-credit Geology 101 College of Southern Nevada (formerly Com-munity College of Southern Ne-vada) course taught by Joy Fiore. Field trips will be included, led by Rob Spurlock. We only need 12 people to get this approved through CSN. Find out about your environment… the faulting so typical of Nevada. Resources. Water sources. Base metals (gold, silver, zinc, platinum (yes!, Platinum). Find out what Sandy Valley’s role was in the min-ing and processing of ore. Find out about plate tectonics, volcanoes, the geologic time scale, etc. Rock specimens will be displayed and discussed too. If you are interested, call Joy Fiore 510-1054 to put your name on the list. We will keep you posted.

Shiloh Vet Day Shiloh will be having a Desert Pines Vet Day on Tuesday, March 25th at the ranch. Boarders: if you need something done with your horse, please call Desert Pines and give them your info to get your horse added to the list...

ATTENTION ALL VETERANS By Ken Kennedy, Adjutant

Sandy Valley American Legion Honors Post 27 Vice Commander Max Price reported that the United States had dumped dead soldiers in a landfill instead of giving them a proper military honor burial. Further investigation turned up a Washington Post article published Decem-ber 7, 2011 stating the Air Force had maintained that it could not estimate how many troops might have had their remains sent to a landfill. The prac-tice was revealed last month by The Washington Post, which was able to document a single case of a soldier whose partial remains were sent to the King George County landfill in Virginia. The new data, for the first time, show the scope of what has become an embarrassing episode for vaunted Dover Air Base, the main port of entry for America’s war dead. The Air Force also has no intention of determining who was dumped or notifying the next of kin. We at American Legion Post 27 find this appalling, even though it was in 2011. We wonder if it is still secretly being done. Commander Bo Gritz reported that there were now 6,801 Soldiers killed in Afghanistan. We are please to announce that Michael Plaza is now back safe from a tour in Afghanistan and is our newest member. We are also pleased to announce that two of our members seeking employ-ment with our help are now employed and a third is well on his way to be-come employed. If you are a veteran and wish to be employed, please con-tact Ken Kennedy at 702-605-4231. We can help you with preparing a pro-fessional resume done by our Service Officer Gail Beckman. We have con-tacts at Primm for employment and also at Molycorp. We also can help you study for the test that is given at Molycorp to help you pass it.

Bountiful Basket Ken & Emma Kennedy are trying to bring Bountiful Basket to the Valley. We have been buying the basket for a year now and have to go to Las Vegas every Saturday morning to pick it up. It is such a great buy that it makes it worth it to do so. We would like the residents of Sandy Valley to be able to get this great buy also, and pick the basket up at the Keystone center in Sandy Valley.Bountiful Basket is a non profit organization where you can buy $40 to $45 worth of quality vegetables and fruits for only $16.50. You can get organic vegetables and fruits for $25. In this bas-ket you get various vegetables like celery. tomatoes, asparagus, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce, carrots, pears, apples, oranges, jicama, and others. One of the great things about this basket is if you don't like one of the items, you can trade it to someone else who would trade for something you like. For instance, I love jicama but don't like celery. So I would trade someone my celery for their jicama. You can buy this basket once a week or every two weeks or once a month or you can skip it for several months and then buy whenever you need to. It is strictly up to you when you want to buy this basket. To get Bountiful Basket to put up our local website and to bring the big truck over the pass to Sandy Valley, we have to have 60 hand written or email letters expressing your desire to participate in Bountiful Bas-ket. This letter does not obligate you to buy the basket. It is only to express your interest in Bountiful Basket. If you make a hand written letter, it should look like the following example with you name, phone number, email ad-dress and address in Sandy Valley. Or you can send an email with the information to [email protected] I am interested in participating in Bountiful Basket My name is Debbie Doe. My telephone number is 702-555-5555 My email address is [email protected] My address is 777 Quartz Box 7777, Sandy Valley You can check out bountifulbasket.org on the web, however our local website will not be put up until we get 60 hand-written letters or emails with the info above. This information will not be shared with anyone except Bountiful Basket If you do the handwritten letter, please drop it off at the Cafe which is open now. Or you can call Ken & Emma Ken-nedy at 702-605-4231 to pick it up. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to call. If there is no answer, please leave a message and we will call you back as soon as we can

Thank You By Bill Carter

A big thanks to everyone for mak-ing the Keystone Nascar Dinner Bingo a great success! We had another great turnout, (again 50+ people) for the SV Community Church dinner with the majority of folks hanging out with us to play bingo. We had Pastor Mike on the grill cooking up descada, a ton of support from Ken at the Trails End by supplying our racing décor, (and bringing an item to be auctioned), Bo Gritz bringing out his class from the karate dojo, and Brad & Cae from Nopah Springs who helped sponsor our prizes. Thanks to the community support were able to contribute not only to helping out the Keystone Foundation, but the Community Church building fund as well. Our big winner of the night was Rylei Imhausen who won the grand prize of two race passes to Pole Po-sition Kart Racing. We're a little envious! Think 45 mph indoor go-karts! Our other coverall winner took home a $20 dollar prize as well. No one took home the mon-eyball this month, so it will increase for April to a $25 dollar bonus prize. Our two special free kids bingo went over big as well, with the kids being more competitive than the adults! Don't miss the next event coming up on April 5th. The folks from Santa's Sleigh will be hosting a baked spaghetti dinner at 6 pm, with a Cowboy Christmas theme for Bingo at 7 pm. As always, you can play for as little as $5 for the night and a free bingo game will be thrown in for the kids. Find us on Facebook if you'd like to keep up with the upcoming events under Keystone Enrichment Foun-dation

Migraine Headache Sufferers

By Ken & Emma Kennedy Migraine headaches are one of the worst things a person can go through. It can be debilitating. My wife Emma used to get them every other week. During a lot of re-search we found an essential oil that was used in ancient times to stop this. She uses the oil on her tem-ples and back of neck when she feels one about to start and it stops the migraine completely within 15 minutes. We have given free bot-tles to friends who have these head-aches and it stops theirs also. We want to give a bottle of this effec-tive oil free to any Sandy Valley resident who suffers from these headaches. No one should have to go through that and we wish to help anyone who has them. Please call me at 702-605-4231 and I will get it to you.

Our Condolences

We would like to offer our condolences to Donna Stalker and family on the loss of her Mother this month.

May she rest in Peace

Sandy Valley Rodeo Team Sandy Valley Rodeo Team is doing well in the State standings. Blake Bentley is sitting #1 in bull riding and the other team members pulled in points, for the team, during the Boulder City Rodeo. The next ro-deo is in Fernley, NV this week. High School Rodeo is the only sport not financially supported by the Clark County School District, however, all team members must adhere to a higher GPA standard than other CCSD athletes. Dona-tions or sponsors are always wel-come to help out with entry fees, travel, and other expenses incurred
